Smellies as Christmas present for 9 year old - which brand?

Hi

Id like to get 9 year old DD some smellies as a stocking filler - by that I mean some body mist to wear for discos / parties, body lotion etc. Can anyone recommend a brand that would nourish her skin / has more natural products please? Just looked The Body Shop but nothing really on there.

OP, the French make 'baby perfumes' which are specifically designed for little kids - often very soft and clean. You might find something you like there: https://www.perfumesclub.co.uk/en/kids--babies_childrens-bath-and-hygiene_baby-fragrances/f/

Otherwise another vote for Lush - maybe their new Hello Kitty fragrance? https://www.lush.com/uk/en/p/hello-kitty-and-friends-perfume

So? is cheap and cheerful for that age. I wouldn’t go for anything too expensive as the requests will only go up in price over the years!

MiniStormInATeacup · 06/10/2025 21:03

I have a 9 year old - nearly 10.

She absolutely needs deodorant - she can smell and is very active.

She has recently started to get more aware of this and wants to use products that make her smell nice. She is also getting more aware of brands through school friends.

She likes some of the sprays from Primark, the So?... Sprays from superdrug and recently lived the Daise brand in Boots - very pretty packaging and nice smells - I've got her some for Xmas.

Zara and next perfumes are brilliant.

These are not be 'natural' products but are what girls seem to be liking at the moment.

Lush used to do a lovely little glitter bar, it was moisturising and also sparkly, my eldest loved it. Very popular among her and her friends at school discos. Made them feel like they'd really dressed up. It was called the shimmy shimmy shimmer bar, they still sell it.

Not really natural but my 10yo loves the Sabrina carpenter body mist as well as some of the Zara kids fragrances & Sol de janeiro.

RuLu · 06/10/2025 21:10

Mine loves P Louise products, as do her friends. They’re year 4

Whatflavourjellybabyisnice · 06/10/2025 21:11

A small business called 'Soaps for little suds' is brilliant for this. She's online on her website and on Facebook.

LandofTute · 06/10/2025 21:14

Superdrug is good to look round as they have some stuff that's appealing to that age group.

Tiredofwhataboutery · 06/10/2025 21:23

Sol de janeiro for my ten year olds twins. What I do is buy a couple of advent calendars ( look fantastic this year) then I take out the adult stuff and leave the body spray, body wash, fancy shampoo and conditioners, hand cream, hair treatment mask, sleeping mask, fluffy wrist things, make up brushes and lip gloss.

Then I top up empty boxes with more tween stuff hair clips, tangle teaser brush, Lindt chocolate balls, Malteser reindeer, gloves, little craft kits, glitter pens type stuff. It isn’t cheap as it’s cost me a good £150 per calendar but I’ve also got loads of stuff I like / will use so feeling like it was value for money. You could always make a little gift basket/ bag instead.

Ok, well I didn’t get my first period until 16, my DDs got theirs at 14 and 17.
9 is premature to get a period then. Even if you got your period, why be ashamed of it enough to think you need perfume?

What is “fun” about perfume? (I should disclose here that I am ND)

9 isn't in any way premature to start your periods.

Mrsoftandhisstrangeworld · 06/10/2025 21:30

My just turned 10 year old needs deodorant. And judging by the stink from her friends most of her class does too. I pity the year 5 and 6 teachers!

SparkyBlue · 06/10/2025 21:34

OP if you want to buy some gentle skincare bubble is a great brand for this age .

IamChipmunk · 06/10/2025 21:41

My dd likes soap and glory body mist.
She also has some of my unwanted ted baker travel size body sprays (from years ago! Not the new versions!)

I have got her a skinny dip set of 3 for this year. Was on a £10 tues offer but only about £15 normally I think.

As she isn't really that bothered by brands yet Im not buying anything fancy yet!

finallyicandomyhistory · 06/10/2025 21:47

@Gettingonabitnow when my DDs were that age, I bought Dandydill Way. Gorgeous products, all natural, designed for that age group, beautifully packaged, incredible customer service and very gentle for such young skin. We’ve moved onto Sol de Janeiro now they are teens but I just wanted completely natural when they were 9/10 years old. Highly recommend.

JazzyBBBG · 06/10/2025 21:52

Ariana Grande sprays in B&M. Approx £8!

EcoCustard · 06/10/2025 21:56

I got Dd9 some body mist & lotion from body shop last year. We have an outlet nearby so lots of bits in there. This year she’s after Sol de Janeiro, she loved it in duty free on holiday so will pick some up for her 10th birthday in a few weeks.

Jellycatspyjamas · 06/10/2025 21:56

I’d second the Arianne Grande sprays, my DD loved them.

MotherWol · 06/10/2025 22:05

The So..? body mists in Superdrug are cheap and cheerful and fun stocking fillers for this age, my DD likes the vanilla milkshake one. I’m on the lookout for a cheap dupe of the Sundae squirty cream shower foams, I think Lidl have previously had some? Zara have some fun fragrances, the bubble waffle one and matcha mochi are nice. Basically anything sweet and sugary at this age!

caffelattetogo · 06/10/2025 22:08

Lush is great - if you live near a store they make a big fuss of kids going in, so take her for a trip and they’ll show you loads of products, with no obligation to buy.

Aldi have the squirty ice cream shower foams now

AwakeNotThruChoice · 06/10/2025 22:11

Next Miss Pink is really lovely

Westun · 06/10/2025 22:25

Mine started with the So…? mists around age 10 they are cheap enough for good sticking fillers. They then moved onto Sol De Janeiro which are very popular but a pricier option

I wasn’t ashamed of it but I sweated and had BO and needed antiperspirant to stop the sweat
the perfume or body spray is because I enjoy smelling nice

umm the fun bit is hard! I like reading about the perfume notes, smelling different things, choosing which to use. I guess like some people like trainers or Lego?
