It's not as if she really needs the height is it? I just googled how tall she is, 5'9". The same googling told me that The Queen is 5'8" which surprised me, I would have guessed a bit shorter for her, maybe 5'5".

Yes, PoW check grey suit, grey sweater... functional and smart, but not very interesting.

Yes, an engagement where she was likely to be climbing up and down from planes would have suggested smart flats to me, rather than heels

I assumed grey following funeral of Duchess of Kent, only because I’m Greek & we usually wear black for 40 days and then grey for another 3 months depending closeness of relative. My cousin died a couple of weeks ago and I won’t be wearing ‘colours’ for at least 3 months.

There's a cheeky rumour circulating that some UK royals specifically wore grey suits this week to tickle the couple over the pond who seem a little obsessed by them....I couldn't possibly comment! Agree with the stilettos + trousers, the one fashion statement I wish she'd let go.

I don't think its a mourning thing either as there was plenty of colour at the state visit and Anne, Sophie, Camilla etc have all worn colour lately too. Maybe Kate just likes that suit!

@Choux I wonder if it’s a case of no one daring to say her ideas and colour combos weren’t good?
Something like that wouldn't surprise me. I had to double-check all the goldleaf in the dining room to be sure I was looking at professionally arranged flowers for the banquet - I was not exaggerating about the local florist!

Did I miss a memo about the trendiness of head-to-toe neutrals that don't quite match? Sophie gave us the warm version and now Kate has done cool neutrals! (OK, I'm using some poetic licence as Kate's suit is actually a subtle check…)

I prefer Kate's version, nonetheless I wish she’d chosen a different top. A touch of colour and subtle glamour surely wouldn't go amiss when visiting people who spend most of their life in uniform? Completely agree with others re the heels. It's the more frustrating as there is finally plenty of choice in flat shoes and boots.

I do wonder if the heels are, currently, as much about the press as anything else.

If she suddenly starts rocking up in flats then the media are, inevitably, going to be constant about it.

Look at her wearing flats... Is there a reason she's wearing flats? Is she unable to walk in heels? is she in pain? is that related to her cancer? Are they hiding something from us? Here's pics of the last X times she visited a RaF base - she was wearing heels then?

Given the ridiculous press when she was unwell I wouldn't be surprised if she very much sees heels as part of the uniform and even if she did fancy a change wouldn't atm to avoid that kind of press.

Very nice, I like Stephanie's choice of the blue and I suspect that it moves beautifully. MT has gone low key with the dress accessories, she looks good in the dark red. Princess Elisabeth looks lovely in the navy dress, very chic.

Yes, I love Elisabeth's navy dress. She is very like Queen Paola. I think MT'S dress is Safiyya? The cape looks familiar. And I assume Stephanie is in Elie Saab.

Sadly! Elisabeth is like Paola, very attractive. Stephanie's dress does look like a classic Elie Saab, a good choice.

I'm not keen on either MTs burgundy dress, or Stephanie's pale blue dress.

I think the overall style of MT's is okay, and the length is good, but I hate the cut out. I think that is just personal taste though as I hate all of these cutout things on dresses. I think it just looks tacky. Sorry.

Stephanie's I'm not sure what I don't like. I think maybe its too long and evening for the event? Maybe more gala dinner than abdication event? The fabric looks lovely though. She looks apprehensive - which is understandable! Its a big step up and with a young family will be a big change for everyone.

Elisabeth's blue dress is lovely. Amalia also looking nice, though I see she is following her mother and wearing coats draped over her shoulders. Which I also dislike. Maybe I'm in a bad mood today!

I’m with you , I’m not a fan of random cutouts, although at least it isn’t the dreaded cold shoulder. And for some reason, Stephanie’s dress is giving me “Queen Elizabeth Queen Mum” vibes 🤷‍♀️

Why didn't any of our RF go to the abdication/inauguration?

Were there no British royals there? An abdication event is a bit odd I suppose.

It was only the Dutch and Belgian royals in attendance and I guess they have a closer connection, both geographically and in the case of the Belgians via family. I think King Philippe and GD Henri are first cousins?
