H&M - what are they thinking?

There's some mad stuff going on in the world and people have lost their minds. But when it comes to H&M's designers, they take the whole biscuit tin.
I get their daily emails with new fashion updates, things they want you to buy, and every day I shake my head in disbelief that anyone in their right mind would want to dress this way. Today's one is particularly bad. Am I just out of touch or something??! 🤯

What the heck is she even doing here??

Yep saw that it is weird ! who would wear that get up!?!😅

PotassiumPermanganate · 25/09/2025 13:08

Even the non-outlandish stuff, why would you want your feet/legs to look like a 10 year old boy after a hard day at school?

Clearly inspired by the drawings of Vic Reeves

where are the simple classics, in single colors with no tassels, buttons or added details? In natural fibres which don’t crackle when you put them on?

They're in Uniqlo

How about their fur shoes?

For the stylish Yeti this season.

In Littlewoods, BHS or (more seriously) Uniqlo
People don't go to H&M for simple classics.

But I used to: plain linen trousers, slim led trousers , t-shirts in every conceivable configuration and colour, knitwear. All from H&M. Their sizing was always eccentric and there were a few pieces which just did not make sense, but basics were always good.

A high vamp is very now for transitional dressing, apparently. Vogue said so 🙄

How about their fur shoes?

I want them.

I want to build a fancy dress costume around then.

I then want someone I know to throw a fancy dress party

fatphalange · 25/09/2025 13:32

I instantly thought this was about the furry court shoes. They made me smile a few weeks ago when I spotted them.
I’ve been loving H&M the past few years. The latest drops have been great as well.
For those looking for non-fashiony items like the basics…just look through the site. There is so much choice across many lines. Just type in what you’re looking for.

Floisme · 25/09/2025 14:12

I’d take your point if the whole of H&M was like this but pretty much everything in my local branch is perfectly wearable. Maybe just cancel the emails?

TheLeadbetterLife · 25/09/2025 14:19

Other than the pirate boots and furry shoes (which were obviously only ever SM bait), all the garments you've highlighted have been completely unremarkable OP. I don't know what you expect from H&M? It's hardly going to be styled like the Woolovers catalogue.

greengagesummers · 25/09/2025 14:22

I only tend to buy kids’ clothes there (too much polyester in the womenswear); but their girls’ clothes are all over the place.

One season there’ll be loads of lovely stuff in cotton and linen. The next season and it’s weird brown shapeless polyester that looks like bin bags. There seems no rhyme or reason to it!

RustedOver · 25/09/2025 14:23

I laughed at the boots 🤣

Becs258 · 25/09/2025 14:37

I buy the odd things from there, and used to buy a lot of kids clothes when mine were younger. However, when I had my first nanny job, 30+ years ago, H and M was the only clothes shop the mum passed on the way home , and I dreaded the sight of a bag in her hand. Most of the clothes were just bizarre, so they definitely have form for it.

The only "colour" I've seen anywhere is dark shitty brown described as chocolate brown and it's everywhere.

I can't stand brown and wouldn't ever wear it so I'll be saving money this winter.

Brown is one of the few neutrals I can wear without looking washed out - you've had years of grey (and black and beige), allow us pasty people one season! ;) I've honestly been waiting about 20 years for it to come back, would like to see more cool dark browns though.

The only thing I have bought in H&M for ages was last week - a pair of trackies in dark brown 😅 I'm quite pleased with them, not as boring/cheap looking as black ones and they actually fit me without dragging on the floor or being ridiculously wide (5'2", size10/12). I can't find them on the website now though...

Primark was looking very colourful when I walked past - lots of patterns too. It gave me C&A flashbacks

JaneJeffer · 25/09/2025 14:53

I love brown 😂

JaneJeffer · 25/09/2025 14:53

I love brown 😂

When I was little my sister deliberately bought me an outfit in brown because she knew I hated it even then.
Then she loved seeing me get told off for being ungrateful because I didn't want to wear it.
Cow🙄

CheerfulBunny · 25/09/2025 15:04

I quite like a bit of avant garde dressing - got a fair bit of ribbing for my Free People (looky-likey) bloomers but I love them regardless- and I like H&M generally. Not a fan of the big polyester tent dresses but they usually go down a storm on MN if they're on a model who looks like Grayson Perry and cost upwards of £250.
Those funny boots that look like leather flares but without the trousers are everywhere. I'm not sure..
I have a lot of questions about the hairy shoes. Does one groom them periodically? What happens if it rains?

RestlessSparrow · 25/09/2025 15:07

@JaneJeffer Me too! I may have got a tad defensive 😂

@RaraRachael Ah that's mean! I don't think I could pull off head to toe brown, though head to toe black on me would probably be a whole lot worse.

RaraRachael · 25/09/2025 15:10

@RestlessSparrow what made it worse was it was a dress and bolero thing (we're talking 70s) and she knew I was a tomboy and hated wearing dresses.
