H&M - what are they thinking?

There's some mad stuff going on in the world and people have lost their minds. But when it comes to H&M's designers, they take the whole biscuit tin.
I get their daily emails with new fashion updates, things they want you to buy, and every day I shake my head in disbelief that anyone in their right mind would want to dress this way. Today's one is particularly bad. Am I just out of touch or something??! 🤯

What the heck is she even doing here??

I just saw this too and thought WTAAAF??

The serious point is that so much of this stuff will be unsold and then end up in landfill.

They like to present themselves as so eco-friendly by taking back old clothes etc but it's all just a massive sham really

Yep but the line is spoiled imo by wearing ill-fitting trousers and black pointy shoes underneath it - also wondering if the black lace bit is part of the dress or the trousers which look about 2-3 inches too long.

No, you have to pay an extra £139.99 for that!

Perhaps its so when you whip off the dress you instantly become bedtime Margot, in your long silk nighty number.

Katiesaidthat · 25/09/2025 11:40

My main beef with them is their inside lables are light grey writing on white. Not enough contrast and I can´t read them. So I buy as little as possible there now (used to be head to toe dressed in H&M). But the furry court shoes...

where are the simple classics, in single colors with no tassels, buttons or added details? In natural fibres which don’t crackle when you put them on?

It's H&M. A high street fashion brand aimed at young people.

Petherbride · 25/09/2025 10:55

Another instance where having a shapeless model turns the dress into a rag you can’t quite figure out. Fashion Btec year1 students at work.

You can't tell what shape the model is, the dress is oversized. In any case, she is not shapeless, she is likely tall and slim.
I don't think the dress is that awful. The footwear is bizarre.

In Littlewoods, BHS or (more seriously) Uniqlo
People don't go to H&M for simple classics.

HatStickBoots · 25/09/2025 11:57

I’ll leave the Shetland pony shoes to the Bronies out there.

LeftBoobGoneRogue · 25/09/2025 11:59

It’s called FASHION, darlings!

I didnt want simple classics when I was young though!
The more garrish , the better!
However, i have to disclose i was a teenager in the 80s!!!

Fashions just goes in circles, the outlandish stuff is not my style now but why not if you can carry it off and have fun.
Not everyone wants to dress conservatively.

TroubledBloodyMary · 25/09/2025 12:12

Oh, I like their styling in the links and photos above! If the dress @InMyHealthyEra linked had been silk rather than polyester my fingers would be hovering over ‘Buy Now’ right now. And the oversized shirt and jumper look interesting, though I haven’t checked the fabric content, stitching, videos, etc.

I don’t shop from H&M but I’m always open to creative fashion photography - it certainly wouldn’t put me off buying something.

I think I just found the housecoat I needed to protect my clothes from cat fur 😂

Im proba ly going to be wearing something similar later today...at the hairdressers!

RaraRachael · 25/09/2025 12:23

£90 for that monstrosity of a dress?

H and M used to be reasonable for staple wardrobe stuff. I noticed their kids' stuff had rocketed in price too. I went to buy a pair of leggings for 6mo granddaughter. In the past they were under a fiver for that size - how they're £14.

I won't be bothering this winter.

Whatareyoutalkingaboutnow · 25/09/2025 12:25

Wouldn't be seen dead in that. Wait. It might work as a shroud.. 🤔

Do you mean the weird shit like this?

www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.1302488001.html

Destined for a landfill... its disgraceful.

anon2022anon · 25/09/2025 12:34

I've got to say for a few fashion/ trend pieces, I love H&M. The styling may be...quirky...on this release (I think it's a studio collection, so I guess they've tried to go high fashion with it, not wearable styling- it shows!), but in general it's a shop with extremely wearable clothes, great prices, and lasts as well as any man made material does.

Not everyone wants to wear classic pieces in natural materials that last forever, or can afford to buy them.

Currently wearing a pair of H&M trousers to the office that were £15, and are on year 3 of wear I think. The fleeces I'll pull out this weekend are also on year 3, and still look great condition- no bobbling or pilling. The ribbed basic t-shirts re great for £10, excellent colours and wash and wear no problem.

anon2022anon · 25/09/2025 12:38

@AlorsTimeForWine while it is shite IMO too, it's probably less destined for landfill than the similar crap on the Net A Porter website that is literally 10x the price. There's a chance someone might buy these at £100, rather than £1000+. I wouldn't buy any of the stuff in there advert , but there will be lots of people who study the catwalk, want to try new shapes, but can't afford designer prices. Perfect for them.

I do wonder WTF they were thinking with the furry shoes though.

Gettingbysomehow · 25/09/2025 12:44

HatStickBoots · 25/09/2025 09:51

There’s a thread somewhere on here about how husbands and partners don’t understand women’s fashion and take the p out of it… well, I’m not sure I understand women’s fashion either. I went into Fatface to try on a fleece I liked the look of and struggled to get it over my head. In the mirror I could just about peep through the opened buttons of the neckline to see my reflection and realised I looked like somebody in a hot water bottle costume. I don’t have a six foot frame or much of a neck… so I saved myself 60 odd quid.

I had the same with a sweatshirt from next. The neck was so tight I couldn't get it over my head!! The rest of the sweatshirt was massive, so back it went.

BridgetRandomfuck · 25/09/2025 12:46

I actually kind of like the hairy shoes, don’t think I’d a dare wear them though…

TroubledBloodyMary · 25/09/2025 12:49

What does dare mean, @BridgetRandomfuck? Are you afraid of rain, or mockery, or being thought of as someone who’s bought some cheap, fun, fashionable shoes?

girlwhowearsglasses · 25/09/2025 12:53

PegDope · 25/09/2025 10:59

Everything is a shade of beige. In every shop. Colour has disappeared.

Never mind shapes, styles, cuts.

YES. I can't see any colour this season

PotassiumPermanganate · 25/09/2025 12:57

Just for the record, I love H&M! I used to have a branch very near me and it was the one and only shop I went to for clothes. Love the vast majority of their stuff and was very disappointed when they closed down a couple of years ago.
But their catwalk stuff is mad! Those kitten heels fishing waders not only look ridiculous, how do you keep them up? Braces? She looks so bloody uncomfortable. The dress everyone is on about is actually ok as a dress, but sticking it over a pair of trousers??? They do have some nice dresses but then ruin the look with awful shoes and socks combinations. And yes, lots of this will go to landfill sadly.

anon2022anon · 25/09/2025 12:58

I've seen quite a bit of colour this season, actually in H&M (I went for a mooch yesterday).
Yes there is WAY too much beige, but they had a lot of rich brown with it, and the usual burgundy and khaki for autumn, but also some muted pinks which were nice, a pale blue section, pops of bright red, and the most unexpected was a bright cobalt blue.

minipie · 25/09/2025 12:58

The dress is clearly an eco friendly way to use up old valances.

I secretly like the furry shoes.

RaraRachael · 25/09/2025 13:08

The only "colour" I've seen anywhere is dark shitty brown described as chocolate brown and it's everywhere.

I can't stand brown and wouldn't ever wear it so I'll be saving money this winter.
