Please tell me about your dark, long lasting perfume?

I adore patchouli and sandalwood and other smells I can't place but which seem "dark" or "deep" or "woody" I think?? I don't like overtly feminine perfumes (I'm not even sure I know what mean when I say that but there are some strong perfumes I smell out and about that I really don't like. They smell kind of sickly to me). I do like vanilla though. IRL I love the smell of cardamom.

The only actual perfume that I've really loved is Kiehl's Original Musk. But it just doesn't last particularly long on me.

Really hoping someone out there is wearing my future favourite and wants to tell me about it!

Obsession? Been my winter/autumn perfume for 30 years!

Foolsgold74 · 23/09/2025 13:59

Clinique Elixir but very specifically the shower gel and body lotion. The perfume is way too strong but the other 2 are absolutely divine and layered together are just gorgeous, last until the next day, are noticeable but not over-powering and make the bathroom smell heavenly too. Don't make the mistake of smelling the perfume and writing it off. The perfume isn't a good indicator.

Hoppinggreen · 23/09/2025 14:12

I have Tom Ford Lost Cherry, its pricey but you can get good dupes

Curiossir · 23/09/2025 14:28

Poison. Old school. Lovely.

WinWhenTheyreSinging · 23/09/2025 14:29

Chanel Coco (NOT Coco Mademoiselle)

SkyBlueOrange · 23/09/2025 15:05

Ooh thanks for sorting many ideas so far. Lots to research there.

The mention of body lotion reminded me of an old favourite which no longer exists - Jasamber by Space Nk. I remember a brilliant gift set with candle, body lotion and scent.

I wear this but the perfume. I put it on straight after my shower first thing. One squirt under my hair line at the nape of my neck. That’s it. Once it’s sunk in it’s lovely and lasts all day and the compliments I get 😮 another one I always get compliments on is, randomly, Giorgio Beverley Hills Red, which again needs to be used very sparingly. Love both though.

stayathomer · 23/09/2025 15:11

Hugo boss deep red, adore it and always get asked about it. Also years ago the original Gucci was my holy grail but they got rid of it. (Sobs!)

Bemoreme21 · 23/09/2025 15:11

Le Labo Noir or Le Labo Another. Both amazing smells.

Yep, Le Labo is worth exploring and there's an M & S dupe too which is lovely.

SpamBeansAndWaffles · 23/09/2025 15:23

Ghost Deep Night is lush.

Crikeyalmighty · 23/09/2025 15:27

I like Marc Jacob’s decadence for this

Harbourofdiscovery · 23/09/2025 15:27

Estee Lauder Cinnabar, worn it for many many years nothing else like it, along with Aromatics Elixir and to a lesser extent Obsession.

However I will say my recent purchases of both Aromatics and Obsession I really think they are not as strong as they used to be.

I did also try the Tom Ford White Patchouli and thought it went 'off' quite quick and smelt awful.

I love a strong perfume!

Freda69 · 23/09/2025 15:28

Poison, Opium, Estée Lauder - Sensuous or Youth Dew (although I’m not sure they’re the same as they used to be)
My husband recently bought me Jo Malone Myrrh & Tonka Cologne, which is on the same lines.
Very light perfumes just don’t last on me!

Arlanymor · 23/09/2025 15:30

Black Datura - Miller and Harris. You can order a tester online. I have never worn it and not got a compliment and I have the exact same taste as you when it comes to scents.

FatLarrysBanned · 23/09/2025 15:30

Molton Brown Neon Amber.

Poison. Old school. Lovely.

Disagree totally. Awful perfume 🤢🤮

Pineapples123 · 23/09/2025 15:35

YSL libre intense? Or some of the maison margiela replica ones are quite woody too, like jazz club

GlassofRosePorfavor · 23/09/2025 15:37

Oooh I have a few!

tom Ford santal blush and noir de noir (layered with soleil du feu is amazing)
original opium
samsara guerlain
hypnotic poison
estee Knowing
chanel coromondel
fredric Malle carnal flower and the Arabic one midnight something?

thats all I can think of at the moment

Winederlust · 23/09/2025 15:40

Poison was also my go to once upon a time.
My current obsession is anything oud based which seems to fit your description. I have shay and blue oud alif which stays until I shower the next day. It's dark, deep and woody.
All the shay and blue perfumes I've tried tend to last very well on me.

GlassofRosePorfavor · 23/09/2025 15:40

NewDayNewColour · 23/09/2025 15:32

I mean why say this? Clearly it's not awful now is it seeing as it's still wildly popular.

why not offer up your own suggestions for us to vomit all over then 😂

Twinklewonderkins · 23/09/2025 15:48

Lush Lord of Misrule is patchouli black pepper and vanilla it lasts ages on my skin.
It’s not sweet and quite unisex
agree with others ideas of obsession, poison and TF lost cherry tho

spicetails · 23/09/2025 15:50

Curiossir · 23/09/2025 14:28

Poison. Old school. Lovely.

It’s shit now unless you can get your hands on a vintage bottle. It was my signature scent. I’ve never found anything else like it

Imonlyhereforthebuffet · 23/09/2025 15:53

Halfeti by Penhaligon

Blarn · 23/09/2025 15:53

The original Agent Provocateur edp. There is a slight powderiness to it but it is very heavy and lasts a long time, on my skin at least.
