Please tell me about your dark, long lasting perfume?

I adore patchouli and sandalwood and other smells I can't place but which seem "dark" or "deep" or "woody" I think?? I don't like overtly feminine perfumes (I'm not even sure I know what mean when I say that but there are some strong perfumes I smell out and about that I really don't like. They smell kind of sickly to me). I do like vanilla though. IRL I love the smell of cardamom.

The only actual perfume that I've really loved is Kiehl's Original Musk. But it just doesn't last particularly long on me.

Really hoping someone out there is wearing my future favourite and wants to tell me about it!

Lord of Misrule by Lush. It opens with a smoky patchouli which I don’t like but then mellows down to a gorgeous warm sweet scent.
I really dislike Coco or Coco Mademoiselle. I can’t stand Pomegranate Noir - just to give you an idea of my taste.
I do like Tom Ford’s Vanilla Sex and Dior’s Hypnotic Poison.
I love Coty’s Wild Musk (sadly discontinued ) but don’t like any other musks.

Lataffa in the dark pink bottle. Lovely and lasts all day

Meezer2 · 23/09/2025 15:55

Tom ford black orchid would fit your description

ovalisinvincible · 23/09/2025 15:56

Frederic Malle - Portrait of a Lady; SO expensive but so worth it and the bottle lasts forever

SkyBlueOrange · 23/09/2025 15:57

Is it normal for brands to do samples? I'm getting so excited about trying some of these.

I've never been complimented on a perfume I'm wearing before. But, weirdly, when I was younger, I used to wear a particular men's sure roll on deodorant which would get so many compliments from men assuming it was my perfume!

Tom Ford and the ‘winter’ Kilian (dark bottles) would last days if I didn’t wash

Crispyturtle · 23/09/2025 16:03

Ooh, lush, but my goodness the price tag!

spicetails · 23/09/2025 16:07

Ralph Lauren Safari

I have a bottle of Fendi perfume bought 35 years ago for me by a boyfriend. I thought of it as soon as I read the thread title. No sure it really fits the bill other than I consider is very deep scent and it is definitely long lasting. It is a very sexy and sophisticated smell, I would say. I can't wear perfume any more, I am so often allergic to it. And possibly suit more floral scents, anyway.

Anyway, thank you for the thread because I have just seen people selling the same thing for over £100 on eBay! I understand why people would want it, it smells so good and is very distinctive.

EDIT: it is discontinued, which is why it is selling for so much on eBay so not much help to you, OP but a big help to me and I will be straight on eBay tonight to flog it in time for Christmas!

Estee Lauder Youth Dew - it takes me right back to the 1980's - adore it and get many compliments when wearing it

Thingsthatgo · 23/09/2025 16:12

I still wear Dune by Dior. It’s really old fashioned now, but I get so many compliments when I wear it. It’s quite full on, so I only wear it for evening/night. It’s not really day time perfume!

SpareMe · 23/09/2025 16:19

I haven't read all the responses, so apologies if someone else has already said this.

Pomegranate noir by Jo Malone and Noir by the white company both fit your description

Chanel Coco (NOT Coco Mademoiselle)

This. I wear Coco in the winter and Mademoiselle in the summer. Original Coco has a very bourbon/treacle/cinammon vibe and reminds me of Christmas parties.

Mildmanneredmum · 23/09/2025 16:48

Cartier "Baiser du Dragon". All I can say is that I loved it, and men behaved differently when I was wearing it (I may have been younger). It's been discontinued now but Panthere is quite close.

Instinct1 · 23/09/2025 16:49

I like Armani Code in the Winter. It's a little vanilla-y, and it does last ages on me.

Mason Margiella Replica by the Fireplace

Kilian Angels Share

Both quite strong and long lasting

Defiantly41 · 23/09/2025 16:51

Agree with Clinique Aromatics Elixir, Chanel Coromandel, Penhaligon Halfeti

Aromatics Elixir needs a very light hand - I spritz once in the air and walk through

Chanel Cedrat is lovely

Jo Malone English Oak and Hazelnut is my most remarked upon favourite, also layering this with the Aromatics Elixir is amazing but you need to be super light handed with both

Nomorecoconutboosts · 23/09/2025 17:08

Love JM myrrh and tonka is lovely but not as ‘deep’ as some of my other favourites. JM pomegranate noir smells too light and fruity on me.
Agree with pp re Opium

I’m also fan of Tresor I suspect that’s a bit old fashioned? The vanilla comes through for me after a while.

The original Agent Provocateur edp. There is a slight powderiness to it but it is very heavy and lasts a long time, on my skin at least.

Love this too. Always have a bottle on the go. Vivienne Westwood was lovely too but discontinued now.

Ihateboris · 23/09/2025 17:22

Also, Flowerbomb by Viktor and Rolfe..gorgeous!

Whatareyoutalkingaboutnow · 23/09/2025 17:30

Paloma Picasso is the only one that smells exactly the same as it did when I first smelled it. Strong, dark and not for the faint hearted.

roses2 · 23/09/2025 17:35

All of the Tom Ford perfumes on Perfume Parlour - so many compliments!
