Please tell me about your dark, long lasting perfume?

I adore patchouli and sandalwood and other smells I can't place but which seem "dark" or "deep" or "woody" I think?? I don't like overtly feminine perfumes (I'm not even sure I know what mean when I say that but there are some strong perfumes I smell out and about that I really don't like. They smell kind of sickly to me). I do like vanilla though. IRL I love the smell of cardamom.

The only actual perfume that I've really loved is Kiehl's Original Musk. But it just doesn't last particularly long on me.

Really hoping someone out there is wearing my future favourite and wants to tell me about it!

Chanel Coco (NOT Coco Mademoiselle)

Agree! I love this one.
Also Tiffany Intense.

Antimimisti · 23/09/2025 17:43

Zara Ebony Wood. The only perfume I have ever received a compliment on.

Is it normal for brands to do samples? I'm getting so excited about trying some of these.

I've never been complimented on a perfume I'm wearing before. But, weirdly, when I was younger, I used to wear a particular men's sure roll on deodorant which would get so many compliments from men assuming it was my perfume!

This website is great - I've bought a fair few samples from them so I can test scents without the sensory onslaught of a perfume department:

Acqua di Parma oud. I got told I ‘smelt like Dubai’ in this ( Arabs love oud and woody spicy scents I believe)

BaronessBomburst · 23/09/2025 17:54

I love Chanel - Coromandel and Coco

BuntyBeaufort · 23/09/2025 18:01

Sisley Eau de Soir is deep, rich and long lasting. Imagine a duchess’s mink coat ….

Blondiney · 23/09/2025 18:03

Coromandel, Chanel

Gatekeeper · 23/09/2025 18:09

I’m wearing Scarlett Poppies by Jo Malone, which absolutely ticks your boxes.

fragrancefriend · 23/09/2025 18:15

I also came on to say Thè Noir 29 by Le Labo.

Sandalwood sacre by le Jardin retrouve

My faves are
Halfeti
Serge Lutens Fémininite du Bois

You might also like the delicious Sandalwood and Cardamom by Fragonard.

Diptyque Orphéon is my winter scent. It is pricey, but I love it so much that I have a savings pot especially to make sure I don’t run out! I’ve been complimented on it loads of times.

Can’t wait for the weather to get just a bit more consistently autumnal so I can start wearing it again. (Not for the compliments, I’m not that much of a diva 😂)

YippieKayakOtherBuckets · 23/09/2025 18:32

Diptyque Tam Dao. It is a beautiful spicy sandalwood. Don't bother with the EDT - it lasts five minutes and is useless. EDP or nothing.

frugalkitty · 23/09/2025 20:06

I like Liz Earle no.15, that lasts well.

MrsSkylerWhite · 23/09/2025 20:07

Shalimar is the only perfume I ever liked. Deep, dark and glorious. Everything else just smells like alcohol.

Glitchymn1 · 23/09/2025 20:10

Halfeti
I used to love Organza Indecence but it’s discontinued.
Estee Lauder Sensuous

NippyNinjaCrab · 23/09/2025 20:38

Saving this thread!

I love Pomegranate Noir from Jo Malone.
Tom Ford Oud Wood
Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille
Coco by chanel
Narcisso Rodriguez for her. (It was an old fave so I succumbed to memories)
My friend gave me Euphoria by CK and at first it reminded me of my late Sister, then the die down wasn't appealing.

I bought Hugo deep red recently and i am not sure about it on me. Same with Millions gold I was gifted, some of the new perfumes smell the same, maybe it's me getting older 😂

I've been tempted by TF Black Orchid but never splurged. I do love my DH Ombre Leather too.

CurlyFerret · 23/09/2025 20:55

Ooh lots of lovely ones on here - my personal favourite is Tempo by Diptyque - love patchouli!

Imtoooldforallthis · 23/09/2025 20:56

Clinique Aromatics

yoursecretcrush · 23/09/2025 21:07

I second Jo Malone Myrrh and Tonka, it gets many comments when I wear it and fits your description.

Diversion · 23/09/2025 21:11

I loved Poison too, it used to last ages. My Mum got a spray in Boots once, it stained her coat and she couldnt get rid of the smell. She hated it from that day and I loved it. It just does not last anymore, the last bottle I bought was rubbish. Try Pretty as Poison by Cursed Fragrances, it is divine and you can buy it in testers too.
