Please tell me about your dark, long lasting perfume?

I adore patchouli and sandalwood and other smells I can't place but which seem "dark" or "deep" or "woody" I think?? I don't like overtly feminine perfumes (I'm not even sure I know what mean when I say that but there are some strong perfumes I smell out and about that I really don't like. They smell kind of sickly to me). I do like vanilla though. IRL I love the smell of cardamom.

The only actual perfume that I've really loved is Kiehl's Original Musk. But it just doesn't last particularly long on me.

Really hoping someone out there is wearing my future favourite and wants to tell me about it!

Serge Lutens - Tuberose Criminelle

NippyNinjaCrab · 23/09/2025 21:14

I need to write down a couple of these to try, I'm heading to H beauty on Friday and i "might" treat myself 😂

RaininSummer · 23/09/2025 21:16

This is interesting as I obviously like this sort of thing as my three regulars are obsession, clinique aromatics and deep red. Will check out some of these suggestions.

Loloj · 23/09/2025 21:38

YSL libre intense ❤️

Deffo this !! It's very deep dark and sultry I love it !!
Jazz club and By the fireplace by Replica -both of them are smokey and woody

Ebony woods - Zara
Tom ford Tobacco and vanille

Poison is gorgeous

mouldedacrylic · 23/09/2025 21:56

Might be worth taking a look at some aftershaves which work with patchouli and sandalwood - I think a lot of stuff geared to men is really beautiful and subtle and avoids some of the 'poisonous gas' fumes that women's heavy perfumes can create. This is a decent list https://www.gq-magazine.co.uk/gallery/best-mens-patchouli-fragrance-guide

Also check out oud scents too - you might like Jo Malone Oud & Bergamot.

YippieKayakOtherBuckets · 23/09/2025 22:08

I am genuinely surprised at the number of pp suggesting Poison. It’s not woody to me at all, but pure fruit and flower. There is a short-lived burst of plum in the top notes and then an absolute bully of tuberose.

Moretoit · 23/09/2025 22:09

Ah you have been given some wonderful suggestions by posters. I would very much recommend Portrait of a Lady if you like patchouli - it smells dark and powerful. Eau de Soir by Sisley and Chanel’s Coromandel are truly stunning but I wouldn’t say they are dark - more rich smelling. I agree with Halfeti by Penhaligons, the 4160 Tuesdays fragrances and Tempo by Diptique. They have a rich dark aroma and are long lasting. Also have a look at Ex Idolo. Love and Crime and Thirty three are incredible. Some suggestions given for Kilian - I would go for Black Phantom, Intoxicated and Back to Black. Finally if you like Cardamom and Sandalwood, give Gris Charnel by BDK a try - it’s quite a masterpiece.

Doireallywanttodothis · 23/09/2025 22:28

I wear The Bewitching Yasmine by Penhaligan’s. It’s not cheap but a bottle does last forever and I get loads of complements when wearing it. According to fragrantica (see image) its notes sound very much what you’re looking for.

Woodworm2020 · 23/09/2025 22:30

There is a Jo Malone intense scent (comes in the black/brown bottle) oud and something - so nice!

Myoldbones · 24/09/2025 00:48

I agree with Halfeti by Penhalligons it’s gorgeous.

I absolutely love Chanel 22 on other people too but it doesn’t suit me at all as I sadly
discovered after buying a bottle, expensive
mistake! Anybody want to swap something?

ShyMaryEllen · 24/09/2025 01:07

You could try Saltworks. They sell 'discovery sets' for £29, which are basically ten testers, but each box contains a voucher for £25 off a 100ml bottle or 3 10ml ones, which retail at £95 and £25 respectively. They do four different sets. One has woody scents, and their 'classic' set has two oud-based ones.

They are mostly long-lasting, and I really like a lot of them. The tester sets come with cards you can use to spray the perfumes but they are much better worn on your body to get to know how they react with your chemistry.

Floral Street’s Chypre Sublime is a fairly good dupe of Portrait of a Lady but much more affordable.
perfume parlour do a decent Halfeti copy

CurlewKate · 24/09/2025 07:15

Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir.

Halfeti by Penhaligon

Edited

This .
also I’d investigate Molton brown , Miller Harris and Jo loves . All have the scent families you’re looking for but for longevity I’d always go Parfum not Toilette.

StrugglingwithIvanhoe · 24/09/2025 07:48

I love 1881 by Cerutti.

spikyplanty · 24/09/2025 09:24

Came on to say Halfeti. The Eden perfume dupe is gorgeous.

spicetails · 24/09/2025 09:40

StrugglingwithIvanhoe · 24/09/2025 07:48

I love 1881 by Cerutti.

That’s lovely but it’s not deep and dark - it’s very powdery. It’s my perfume anomaly

KelsCommemorativeSausage · 24/09/2025 10:01

Thank you for the fragrance sample site, I can't find who suggested it! Just ordered a few.

SkyBlueOrange · 24/09/2025 11:14

Thanks so much everyone for every single suggestion!

I'm going to have to draw up a list when I get a moment and then see which I can get samples of.

Exciting times!

The Bath House do a lovely Black Pepper and Patchouli range, they have an on line store. You could try the body lotion before spending on the perfume but I love it, along with Aromatics and Agent Provocateur mentioned earlier.

FindingMeno · 24/09/2025 11:32

Agree with a lots of these!
