Is DD right about this dress? (Light-hearted)

I bought this for various Christmas parties. I love it, having a weakness for hippyish, Stevie Nicks-in-the-1970s getups. My daughter (8, sarcastic, only prepared to wear black leggings) made a horrified face on seeing it. Which of us is right? (In case it helps, I'm slim and pretty flat, so the volumising effect of the ruffle isn't too problematic to my eye).

It’s beautiful. Personally I think the ruffles are over egging the pudding but it’s a lush dress.
I have bought Joanne dresses before which look amazing on the models but shit on me.

@ShiningShimmeringSplendid i hadn’t looked at Joanie before but probably because of this thread it kept popping up on my feed and I saw a 40% off deal. So I ordered this. https://joanieclothing.com/flora-granny-square-print-puff-sleeve-midaxi-dress.html My daughter doesn’t like it either. But I don’t care.

That’s kind of gorgeous, @WhereAreMyAirpods; easy to wear and lovely autumnal colours.

(Although as always with Joanie the compromise is in the fabric.)

Have you been there? It's grim.

This is probably what it was based on.

You mean have I been to Reading, the place? Yes, a family friend lived there for a while so I know what it's like.

The double meaning was partly why I liked it.

Emanwenym · 28/09/2025 14:47

It's not really grim, but it's not cool.Smile
I've not been to Barking. 🐕

Panda69 · 30/09/2025 20:07

It's great, eye catching, not dull. Its probably a marmite dress! if you love it,and it makes you happy, that's all that matters! Love the flowy sleeves!

somethingbeginningwithb · 16/10/2025 01:00

I saw this, loved it, bought it but thought it looked hideous on me - the mustard washed out my skintone and I was to busty for it. But you say you suit autumn shades and you're pretty flat, so hopefully it suits you better than it did me!
