Anyone still wear tights with dresses in winter?

I haven't seen much of it out and about for years, my brain can't picture it as easily now!
I do love a warm jersey dress in colder months although a few are now retired at the back of wardrobe. Perhaps they don't work as well with modern accessories, etc?

I started wearing cord trousers mostly in winter but am getting a bit bored.

I wear tights and dresses or skirts a lot in winter as easier than wearing wide jeans or trousers if it's raining. I always size up in tights so that they are long enough. Sheer tights look too 80s to me and also catch really easily.

Yes, but the days of black pencil skirt, opaque and black heals are long gone.

Now it’s more swishy midis with boots + tights, or short mini, chunky jumper, flat boots and opaques

Yep, this. I'm a teacher and this is basically what I wear to work in winter.

I wear them in summer! 15 denier last week anyway, when it wasn't quite so hot.

This! If it's 20-24 I might wear thin tights, especially if I have to go somewhere with air conditioning and if it's 16-22 degrees, I'll wear black opaque tights. I don't care that it's not fashionable.

Yes I do sometimes wear tights with dresses, it depends on the length of the dress

I wear a lot of Lady V Lyra dresses with long boots so can get away with long knee length socks

Same here - works for me.

I wear black tights in the winter and just generally when it’s not hot. Find it so much easier to stick on a dress and not have to faff about finding separates and co-ordinating an outfit for work.

Likewise- it makes deciding what to wear for work SO much easier!

I like the idea of wearing coloured tights, but am wary of looking like a tree in a school play.

Same. Charcoal is the bravest I can muster 😂

I haven’t worn tights for decades. I would but I have a 26’ inside leg and am a size 14 so I need ‘large’ tights which are then about 3 feet too long.

I love ‘tent dresses’ and in winter wear wool / corduroy ones with cotton undertrousers or fancy long bloomers, men’s socks and boots. So cosy.

I buy snag tights to avoid this issue.

They come different lengths too. At least some sizes do. Helpfully the size I need.

I wear mine with mini Skirt, chunky jumper and either loafers or boots from about October to March. I’ve always looked better in skirts and dresses than trousers. Love a black opaque me.

piscofrisco · 11/09/2025 07:41

‘
@Gwenhwyfari found your temperature guidance for the tights reassuring. My rule is that anything 18 degrees and under allows for a black tight. All my friends take the mickey out of me for it but I’ve come to this (very scientific) conclusion after Years of experimentation and vigorous testing in the field.
