Anyone still wear tights with dresses in winter?

I haven't seen much of it out and about for years, my brain can't picture it as easily now!
I do love a warm jersey dress in colder months although a few are now retired at the back of wardrobe. Perhaps they don't work as well with modern accessories, etc?

I started wearing cord trousers mostly in winter but am getting a bit bored.

What about fabrics/pattern?
I am finding a lot of jersey florals and not much else..

For what ? Dresses?

DouglasBader · 12/08/2025 16:09

Not me.

MrsBucketHat · 12/08/2025 16:11

Er yes!! Tights and dresses with my DMs is my favourite outfit! Can’t wait until it’s cold enough to dress like this again!

imnotwhoyouthinkiam · 12/08/2025 16:13

I practically live in dresses all year round.

With colourful "chub rub" shorts in summer.
With colourful tights in winter.

That’s literally what opaque means - not see through.

Haha ok yes it does 😂summer holiday brain

pinkduckk · 12/08/2025 16:15

I have seen pictures of people wearing long socks with dresses and boots...wondering how old is too old for that look. Sick of tights!

Dress and opaque tights are my go to from September to March 😂

Mine too! It's my uniform though autumn and winter!!!

Gettingbysomehow · 12/08/2025 16:23

I don't tend to wear dresses in winter. I stick to trousers becsuse it's cold and muddy here out in the sticks so I don't own any tights. All my dresses are summer ones.

Chipsahoy · 12/08/2025 16:23

I live in a very very cold part of Scotland, our winters are long and harsh. I live in my thermal lined black blue or brown tights from m and s as far warmer than jeans. I wear with short dresses and skirts (with thermals layered under!).

I’m outside walking a lot so stick on snow boots (and tbh ski trousers over top of tights too ) or lined wellies but if I were to go to town it would be my biker boots or low heeled block boots.
Jeans are a no no in winter. Far too cold.

I was the same for years, but I actually find dresses with merino wool tights are better than trousers when it's cold and muddy.

They're warmer and you don't need to tuck tights into wellies.

Always depends, not on age but lifestyle, circles you mix in, how comfy you feel.

Last time i saw someone dressed like that was at a quiet winter choir event and she looked utterly amazing, very Toast sort of style, she was also in her 60's.

Im.a skirt and dress person. I find it's not that easy finding skirts. Come winter for work I will be wearing dresses and tights. I would just wear what u want OP.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/08/2025 16:35

I think coloured tights are very difficult to get away with. Red look awful on almost all legs imo and green too elf costume for my liking.

? Where do ypu live that you don't see women wearing tights and drrsses in winter?

Agee. I usually wear this combo most days.

DelphiniumBlue · 12/08/2025 16:52

Not me, I don't like the feel of my feet being enclosed in nylon fabric. But I do wear (long) dresses with leggings or footless tights and boots in winter.

Eunomia · 12/08/2025 16:59

My work outfit (when I was in the office five days a week) was some kind of mini length dress or skirt, opaque black tights and ankle boots. Loved it. Mostly work from home now and don’t see what people are wearing to the office these days.

This winter I am going to bring back mini skirts with opaque tights and knee high boots, don’t care if that is what is on trend as I cannot get on board with wide legged and cropped everything! I am therefore ignoring fashion and just heading back to my safe zone

Nevertrustacop · 12/08/2025 17:06

Only wear winter dresses long enough to wear knee length socks. Can't stand tights around my waist.

I bloody loved it when I realised this. I do wear Snag tights which are comfy but prefer the long socks as easier when going to the loo

Actually can't recall the last time I saw a pair of black opaques..

If it helps, I don't work in an office.

I should think this is weather related as we hit another heatwave.

l wear dresses all the year round and rarely wear trouser/jeans. The opaques will come out as the year goes on.

LostInClothes · 12/08/2025 17:23

I can't find any trousers right now that don't look like pyjamas so I need a dress, lol.

I do but often switch tights for leggings as both warmer and cheating the long run. Wrap dress, boots and leggings are my work winter uniform

IDontHateRainbows · 12/08/2025 18:05

Yes, I'm so behind the curve, fashion wise, I'm ahead of the next curve!

lindyloo57 · 12/08/2025 18:36

@LostInClothes I've just brought from marks sale online a monsoon knitted midi skirt, it's gorgeous thick and warm black with a cream stripe down both sides, it's my first winter weight midi skirt, I normally wear jeans all winter but now find them not warm enough. Looking forward to wearing it with thick tights and knee high boots.

OneBrightMorning · 12/08/2025 18:57

I wear thick cotton tights and boots with dresses in winter. I haven't worn thin sheer or opaque tights in years and don't expect to wear them ever again.
