Which slippers do you wear in the office?

I suppose it's best to go for black? I saw a nice pair of closed Birkenstocks but they're white with a pattern on....I guess they won't go with anything! Crocs seem a bit clunky for the office, although some of my colleagues do wear them. Are the Birkenstock clogs less so? Not sure what to look for tbh, shoes always look large on me as I have big feet. I usually wear dark jeans or dark linen trousers.

I suppose if you wfh you might stay in change into slippers?

What are you on about?

Okay, I’ll bite and explain it to you on the off chance you really don’t get it. Either way there was a presumption: either the OP is some kind of not-an-adult loser who wears slippers in the office, or she’s not from the UK. The shitty responses went for the former because there’s more of a sense of superiority to be gained from treating the OP like an idiot than using logic and realising maybe she’s not from the UK.

Nopenousername · 08/08/2025 14:14

I’m intrigued. Where do you live op?

HelpMeGetThrough · 08/08/2025 14:15

I must sort out my smoking jacket for the office. I reckon this will do.

I have never worked in an office for the past 20 years where people wore slippers.
Do people wear any slippers, like big minions ones or fancy ones like black kitten heels with feathers ???

I've had to wear rubber flip - flop style slippers when in the work premises before at a previous workplace.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 08/08/2025 14:24

This is what we all use in the office. Slightly unwieldy, I know, especially when one has to go to the photocopier, and the electric lead can be restrictive, and a bit of a trip hazard to boot (!).

Sometimes the office takes on the air of a giant game of Subbuteo when we all shuffle off lunch!

Not from everyone.

I asked the op, as did others, where she was from.

I wear these beauties. I find that dastardly penguin disguised as a chicken slippers project an air of gravitas in a professional environment.

Edited

What do you mean penguin? Clearly a chicken!! 😁

Blueuggboots · 08/08/2025 14:37

Slippers are for home!!

UK2HK · 08/08/2025 14:38

If your company requires you to wear slippers I consider it only fair that they buy them for you.

MalcolmMoo · 08/08/2025 14:39

Yeah I don’t think it’s normal to change into slippers 😆 I wear the same shoes I commute in

I think I'm alone in wearing slippers in the office. I started in winter as my feet were cold, now I continue to wear them for comfort. For context, this is a relaxed office, and I'm the team leader.

Several people in my office wear slippers during the day. One person started doing it as she really feels the cold and some others thought it was a great idea so now do the same. We’re a relaxed office in the creative industry, nobody bats an eyelid. It was only an issue once when a visiting dig was a notorious slipper thief and tried to nick them all 😂

you're taking this far too personally. It's such a surprising question (to those of us in the UK), that many of us aren't sure how to respond.

Avoidhumans · 08/08/2025 15:03

I dont like wearing any shoes.
I live in flipflops when i can they will off.

If you actually read the OP you will see she mentions Birkenstocks and Crocs. So not slippers as in the the fluffy type you'd only wear at home that many of us would first picture. It's not unusual for people to change their footwear when they get to the office so it's really not surprising at all...

in winter when most people will be wearing snow boots to commute, it's normal to have a pair of slippers to change into

I'm assuming you're not in the UK. Nobody commutes in snowboots here, and I don't know anyone who changes into slippers at work.

Well that depends where in the UK you are. I'm in Scotland and I often wear snow boots in the winter.

saveforthat · 08/08/2025 15:10

When I started work (in the 1970s) we all wore platform shoes. The bank manager wouldn't let us keep them on at work so we left scholl sandals (blocks of wood) there to change into. I wish we had worn fluffy slippers instead.

But Birkenstocks and Crocs are shoes. The Op talks about slippers.

Lifestooshort71 · 08/08/2025 15:55

Could we call them house shoes instead of slippers? Not as fluffy.

scalt · 08/08/2025 15:58

Does the OP mean flip flops? Some people call them slippers.

I’m old. I’ve never ever worked
somewhere where I wore slippers in the office.

where do you live op? In the uk we don’t tend to get such extremes of weather that this would be an issue maybe more than a week or two of the year and even then, since I drive to the office, I’d just wear my normal shoes.

Edited

You can't be that old if you drive to the office. It makes you sound 97.

Emmz1510 · 08/08/2025 16:16

Where are you OP? Because I’m pretty sure in the UK it’s most definitely not the norm to change into slippers once you get to the office. I mean, some people change from running shoes into normal shoes or maybe walking boots or trainers into shoes if they’ve had a long walk/run to work, or yeah wellies if it’s been raining or snowing heavily, but not into slippers! Not the grown up/professional look most workplaces are going for

She used the word in her title but she says that some of her colleagues wear crocs and she is considering Birkenstocks. So she's really just talking about indoor shoes.

Sheepskin boots (Ugg type things) in theory they are indoor/ outdoor.
