Which slippers do you wear in the office?

I suppose it's best to go for black? I saw a nice pair of closed Birkenstocks but they're white with a pattern on....I guess they won't go with anything! Crocs seem a bit clunky for the office, although some of my colleagues do wear them. Are the Birkenstock clogs less so? Not sure what to look for tbh, shoes always look large on me as I have big feet. I usually wear dark jeans or dark linen trousers.

When I spent a lot of time in Finland, they did change their shoes at work because of snowy boots in the winter. The norm was Birkenstocks with the formally dressed people just having normal shoes they changed into, I think they had 2 or 3 pairs

I think my colleagues in Korea do this - you mention snowboots so I’m guessing you’re not UK!

I’d ask locally because this will just get you gold-plated, good-natured British piss taking!

People don't go to work in their slippers. They go to work in normal shoes and then change in the office. At the moment it's not really an issue, (although I'm a bit concerned my trainers will start to smell if I wear them all day when it's so hot) but in winter when most people will be wearing snow boots to commute, it's normal to have a pair of slippers to change into.

It's not normal at all in London. That's where I work so I can't speak for elsewhere. But feels like the location could be important.

DancingLions · 07/08/2025 22:49

My ex worked in London for a Swedish boss who insisted on no shoes in the office. Although ex didnt wear slippers, just his socks! Not sure what the others did. The office space was rented so not sure why it was a rule, it's not like the boss had paid for the carpets or needed to clean them!

When I was younger and liked to sit with my feet curled under me at my desk, I used to keep a pair of black leather ballet shoes at work (there had been a lunchtime adult ballet class for a bit). Thin enough for comfort, OK to walk around in and not look too bonkers.

I once went to work in my slippers. That was embarrassing. I was perimenopausal and very forgetful at the time. I styled it out, and gave my colleagues a good laugh. I keep a spare pair of shoes in the car now, just in case.

waitingforpost · 07/08/2025 22:52

Birkenstocks aren't slippers

mamagogo1 · 07/08/2025 22:54

@ToetallyHeelarious

i take you are somewhere far colder than the U.K., snow boots are woefully underused on account of the complete lack of snow most years (I own a pair because my dd lives where there’s snow for 4-5 months every year)

RedRiverShore5 · 07/08/2025 22:55

I used to change in the winter if I went in my boots as I often walked to work but just to a pair of slip on loafer shoes rather than slippers or I would have to change them if I went outside

Littleswallows · 07/08/2025 22:58

In guessing you are not in the UK but somewhere that this is a cultural norm. Just wear what everyone else does - there must be a norm with that too.

Sunshineandgrapefruit · 07/08/2025 22:58

This is hilarious. Definitely not normal in the actual office ( though I do wear my Uggs when WFH!)

Littleswallows · 07/08/2025 22:59

I like countries that have an indoor / outdoor footwear rules. So much cleaner!

HobnobsChoice · 07/08/2025 23:02

Can I just check, do they do this in Korea too?

Memberofstaff · 07/08/2025 23:05

Bonkers.

No one has EVER worn slippers to work.

Crispynoodle · 07/08/2025 23:11

Tbf I think it’s a great idea! And a gap in the market to make professional smart slippers!

Littleswallows · 07/08/2025 23:11

I'd imagine it more accept in Japan. Even Uniqlo there makes you leave your shoes outside the fitting room door, as it's a pretty common practice separating the unclean outside and clean inside. Only bonkers if you've not experienced it, normal otherwise.

TheCurious0range · 07/08/2025 23:13

I would love this! We moved into a brand new office last year and there are already stains on the carpet. I'm all for office slippers.

TianasBayou · 07/08/2025 23:19

I love this notion. I WFH most of the time in my slippers, and would love to take them to wear in the office (navy suede lined with sheepskin btw).

Moveoverdarlin · 07/08/2025 23:23

You’re obviously not in the UK. If I saw a woman in the UK in an office wearing slippers, I’d say in a nice, loud, clear voice ‘Come on my love, let’s get you back to the home. It’s nearly dinner time and it’s chops on a Thursday. Nice and easy does it, steady as you go.’

Ooodelally · 07/08/2025 23:46

I walk to work but have footwear to walk in trainers/boots etc. depending on weather but I change into shoes when I get there. I’d be sent home to fetch shoes if I tried to wear slippers at work!

ShallIstart · 07/08/2025 23:56

I have never worked in an office for the past 20 years where people wore slippers.
Do people wear any slippers, like big minions ones or fancy ones like black kitten heels with feathers ???

beachwalkx · 08/08/2025 00:08

Some of my colleagues wear slippers at work but only sitting down at their desk. We don’t have to get up and walk around but if we did then shoes back on
