That’s a nice photo of Felipe meeting Charlotte and George.

And here’s one of Sophie meeting Fred at Wimbledon.

I always think it’s nice when we see our royals meeting the Europeans - the Europeans seem such a close bunch and ours sometimes seem a bit left out of things.

Yes Mr Self is definitely in the good books today (even though he forgot to bring the washing in when it rained).

How lovely @Sidebeforeself

Whenever anyone mentions Geneva I immediately think of The Champions and the opening sequence with the Jet d’Eau Smile

I was only a child and wanted to be Alexandra Bastedo; she was such a strong female character in the series and so stylish.

Maireas · 14/07/2025 13:02

Alexandra Bastedo! Blast from the past! She was so glamorous.

In my opinion the Wales children are always beautifully and appropriately dressed, but I must say that I was surprised and disappointed to see Charlotte wearing nail varnish.

She’s simply doing what other girls her age do , experimenting and wanting to copy her mum and friends, my daughter did the same at that age and is now completely anti makeup and nail polish now.

Wait, what? I can’t get my head around how a young girl (what is she, 10?) wearing nail varnish could be remotely surprising or disappointing.

LadyTottingham · 14/07/2025 13:40

I’m not surprised or disappointed on the nail polish, I think it’s an odd thing to bring up.
It’s pretty standard for a tween to wear a bit of nail polish (usually purchased from Claire’s) either for an occasion or at weekends/school holidays. It’s hardly a full set of acrylics.

Happy anniversary. What a lovely suprise, we do cards and dinner 😂

chesterelly1 · 14/07/2025 13:52

@Sidebeforeself a daughter of a friend was surprised with a trip to Antwerp by her boyfriend, who then proposed and took her to choose the diamonds and design for her ring. Now Geneva doesn’t say diamonds but a nice watch maybe? It is our anniversary in a couple of weeks and I am having some sentimental pieces that were just lurking in my jewellery box reimagined into a ring. Although I spent ages on the jewellery site thatCatherine’s necklace was from - I want it all! But in particular I think her bangle is also from there - 2 wee acorns at each end. It’s not too early to start dropping hints for Xmas is it?

Sidebeforeself · 14/07/2025 13:57

Thankyou @gingercat02 !

@chesterelly1 I do actually have a lovely eternity ring so dont really need any more jewellery …do I? 😁

Anyway I dont want to derail the thread anymore but I was just so excited I had to tell someone!

chesterelly1 · 14/07/2025 13:59

Just want to vent as well - is it any wonder PoW sticks with what she likes when everything she wears is (if being reported kindly) a nod or a tribute to the late Queen or her late mil or her sil or (unkindly) a copycat. Her necklace has diamonds so it’s represents Louis? Really? Maybe she just liked it? Maybe she should get one with diamonds, emeralds and rubies to wear when she’s not got any of the children in tow?

chesterelly1 · 14/07/2025 14:00

And breathe….Grin

TwerkingRoyalNotWorkingRoyal · 14/07/2025 14:18

100%! There's such an awful lot of utter guff reported about her. Never mind the malicious stuff by idiots with nothing better to do than obsess. Add into it the vast majority of U.S. commentary without even the slightest bit of understanding and oh my god! is it any wonder I try to stick to this thread and the good vibes!

Agree. Diamond necklaces are hardly left field. Journalist over thinking maybe? Whatever, it s a fab necklace 😍

justasking111 · 14/07/2025 14:47

I've been thinking. The royals in the past have broken up ugly, tired pieces of jewellery the stones have been reimagined into more modern robust pieces. I bet there's leftovers lying about gems, pearls etc.

So my suggestion is Catherine takes some of these pieces and gems to the jewellers and has new less in your face pieces made. Honestly just a gobstopper gem with a a halo of diamonds as a pendant on a fine chain would be a showstopper.

Some of the necklaces would provide enough gems to make earrings, ring, necklace, bracelet. Then tada you have a new parure.

JoeTheDrummer · 14/07/2025 14:48

I was surprised about Charlotte wearing nail varnish too. I know most girls her age wear it, and I don’t have an issue with it at all, but most boys George’s age wouldn’t have to wear a suit & tie in 30 degree heat if they went to Wimbledon. They dress the children so formally it was unusual to see the informality of the nails.

Yes, but most boys going to Wimbledon wouldn’t be sat in the Royal Box..

As PPs have said, George was just wearing what is required by Wimbledon for the Royal Box. From the Wimbledon website:

”Protocol - dress is smart, suits/jacket and tie, etc. “

JoeTheDrummer · 14/07/2025 14:52

ThePoetsWife · 14/07/2025 07:22

Disliked the bows on the dress and her hair style was too girly. The necklace was too chunky for her - she has a very bony chest so maybe was trying to cover it?

Charlotte looked great - George looked too stifled - a shirt and trousers would be better in the heat.

The bow is always worn by Kate at Wimbledon - it’s shows she’s the Patron of the Lawn Tennis Society.

Jakers. We'd never have known if a paparazzi with a photo zoom lens hadn't been so bloody intrusive.

Can we get back to style and beauty, clothes, accessories, royal visits. I'm now seriously cheesed off with this parsimonious bulldog sucking on a lemon faced posters disruption.

I'm trying to work out the family tree...wasnt felipes mammy related to the late Duke of Edinburgh ?

Also Felipe's daddy. They are all related several times over on both Philip's side and the late Queen's side. Felipe would actually be in the line of succession to the UK crown were it not for his being Catholic.

There is a French "duke" with a more senior claim to the Spanish throne than Felipe but his grandfather or great-grandfather renounced his rights on account of being deaf (which I doubt would happen today).

This duke may have been one of the parties involved in the infamous wedding punch-up so him not being king of Spain is probably for the best!
