Can I wear this to a wedding?

I'm not usually a Lucy and Yak person, but I have just got these trousers and shirt and love them. Can I wear them to a wedding with my shiny new Birkenstocks (maybe with shirt open and a colourful vest underneath)? Or is it kind of rude to wear black like this??

TIA

Not unless it’s an extremely casual wedding!

Agreed. Sorry, OP!

Kinda depends on what shirt and what vest. Because black trousers like this are just going to be the foundation of the whole outfit. Lovely shirt and vest - fine - grey vest and shirt with skull and crossbones - probably not! Although that would be fine if the B&G were happy with it. 😂

I'd say not super traditional/smart, but a formal wedding nonetheless....

And I disagree with previous pp - if the shirt is beautiful jewel coloured silk, for instance, black trousers beneath are fine!

tangerinemagic · 14/06/2025 19:47

a few people I know could pull this off but they wear black 100% of the time (no joke), their weight fluctuates between size 12-16, and they’re always so casual, so not many people would bat an eyelid. In short, depends who is getting married, the venue is improtant and if you’re casual by nature and no one would have high expectations. The invite usually lets on how smart the wedding will be. My invites were more nature inspired, I’d have stuck moss on them if I could!

I have the matching shirt in the pictures. Was thinking of adding colour by wearing with pink vest I have....

I do actually have some nice silk shirts from vinted, so perhaps if the matching one is a no, I could dress up the trousers with them. Thank you!

Crikey they look like something I would wear to do the gardening in, not attend a wedding.
I know things have got more casual but there is a limit.

Jewellery and bag could make it more dressy!

heldinadream · 14/06/2025 19:51

So it's like a black suit with a pink vest.
I dunno I might be talking shite but I think if the vest is nice and the shirt and trousers ironed it could be fine.
And I am not some mad young goth I'm 70! 😂
As I say, I might be wrong...

They're incredibly casual, not just the style but the fabric too. I think you'll stand out if you wear that outfit to a wedding and not in a good way.

helpmeCalifornia · 14/06/2025 19:54

I mean you could have worn what you wanted to my wedding I wouldn’t have minded, but I do think the majority of people would deem the trousers and matching shirt in the picture, plus Birkenstocks to be far too casual for a wedding unless it was a pointedly alternative/ non-formal one.

HawfinchGreenfinch · 14/06/2025 19:55

OK, so near-consensus I shouldn't. That's disappointing, but I did ask!

For what it's worth, the Birkies are SILVER... still no good??

How about if I replace black shirt with a nice black blazer I have? Too black?
