Is this haircut dated?

I‘ve just come out of the hairdressers. This isn’t me, but my hair looks exactly the same (just a bit darker).

I like how it looks from the front, but not the back/side.

Make me feel better about it?

I wanted a haircut similar to this, but without speak to the manager vibes. This was the inspiration and it works well and tousles up really well with wax type stuff too

I don’t like the original photo and think it looks dated, but your photos are lovely! I love a bob and wish I could pull one off, but I have completely the wrong hair for it. Just style it so it’s less regimented than your hairdresser did and it’ll look great.

Well funnily enough I see women with all sorts of hair cuts, and the cut pictured is hardly one that would stop traffic because it is so "dated" - in fact no-one would give it a second look because there is definitely more than one or two women sporting it.

However, I don't live in the UK, where it seems women are so desperate to seek approval that they all have to conform to one hair style for fear of looking "dated".

Nobody was arguing that this haircut would 'stop traffic". I don't think anyone was posting or implying that people would recoil in horror or burst out laughing at the haircut. You're absolutely right in real life nobody would give it a second thought. In fact nobody would give the vast majority of hair cuts a second thought. But the op pretty much ASKED us to give that haircut a second thought.

Clearly women in the UK aren't conforming to one hairstyle as there are a variety of different opinions on this thread. It's posters like you who seem to take issue with that!

For God's sake just fuck off with the Karen shit.

Your hair looks lovely OP.

Sevenamcoffee · 07/06/2025 08:06

Yes please do fuck off with the ‘Karen’ shit. Internalised misogyny, it’s so very depressing.

It seems to be a marmite haircut from the responses here, love or loathe it.
Not sure about 'dated' - BUT as a young-looking 59 yr old, I notice that this style seems to be a universal go-to for women as they reach a certain age. A sort of uniform. Hence, I don't like it. It screams 'sensible' and 'mumsy'.
I accidentally had a similar cut in my 30's (hairdresser not doing what I asked) and I has a very soft perm to make it more 'messy'. If I had this I would definitely be attacking with tongs and putting the twisty movement into it.
But - it's all about you and what you are comfortable with. This is just my take.

I think it’s just a bog standard hairstyle. I wouldn’t say it’s “in style” but it is very ordinary and doesn’t stand out in anyway as being very dated. It’s inoffensive and fine.

this type of bob is back in style:

I’m not keen on bobs that are blow dried to within an inch of their lives. I’d probably had used straighteners on the ends to remove that curve if it was me. I think it looks like it could be quite versatile- you could add a kink in it if you know how ( I can’t do it myself but I know you can do it with straighteners). I have a lot of wave so could twist it when wet and let it dry slightly messy to get that undone look.
( French bobs are fashionable and you could achieve that look very easily with your next look)

Divebar2021 · 08/06/2025 19:06

I wouldn’t say it was that ubiquitous- most mums I know have shoulder length hair with highlights or balayage.
