If you're looking for comfortable knickers with a proper width gusset...

I can recommend these by Chantelle, which are currently reduced on the John Lewis website.

I've just measured the gusset (7cm) similar ones I have from M&S are 5cm - makes a difference!

For a budget-friendly option, may I recommend the George at ASDA full briefs? They are frill-free, comfortable and extremely accommodating. I accidentally picked some up one day, as they were in the wrong packaging. They were so unexpectedly large that I laughed upon taking the first pair out of the packet. However, on wearing them, they were so comfortable that I felt like a changed person! They are the only briefs that I've bought since, and are gradually replacing my smaller pairs!

I just have to say I honestly cannot recommend thunderpants enough - gusset / stretch / cotton / comfy waistband. www.thunderpants.co.uk

NattyTurtle59 · 05/06/2025 02:24

I was slightly interested - until I saw they were nylon!!! I will stick with my Thunderpants and Bonds boyshorts.

Ha, ha, I hadn't read the full thread so hadn't seen your post before I posted mine.

They are insanely comfortable.

BebbanburgIsMine · 05/06/2025 05:03

Is that £17 for one pair? Jeez, that’s expensive!

I’ll stick with my Asda and Sainsbury’s knickers.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 05/06/2025 11:27

I used to get the Sainsbury's knickers until they reduced the gusset to the width of a biro! It's a shame as Stripe and Stare are so expensive but there are three things I will pay extra for for comfort, knickers, bras and shoes.

All the gussets so inadequate these days.
I have Wirapa too but no denying they are really ugly.

I now flit between Sainsburys and John Lewis.but gusset shrinkage there too. Also I like to match my bras and knickers. But knickers always really skimpy. I cannot wear anything but cotton.

Save the skimpies for romance otherwise Bridget Jones.

LittleHouseOnThePrarie · 05/06/2025 17:56

Their own brand knickers in cotton are a fraction of the cost and just as good.

£17 for 1 pair of knickers? And synthetic?

Their own full briefs in 95% cotton and a cotton gusset are much better (I have the bikini style, same fabric.)

This discussion has put a smile on my face - inadequate gussets and romance crushers 😆love it, what Mumsnet does best...

some great recommendations too!

ChocolateCinderToffee · 05/06/2025 22:05

Sorry is that £17 for one pair, ONE PAIR of plastic knickers?

For that sort of dosh, I expect silk.

What I actually wear are these from Next and I can report that the gusset is all you would wish for

are there serious discussions oon Mumsnet…, steer me in the direction. Yes, buy knickers, yes I would like freebies and my daughter annoys me. But that it is not my whole life - we are living in uncertain times and all of us must have opinions of how our families should go forward. We need to think what kind of society we want to bring up our children.

Huh?

Nat6999 · 06/06/2025 04:06

I wear Wirapa knickers from Amazon, I have bladder problems so need some that will take a high absorbency pad. They are absolutely bomb proof, never move a millimeter, they hold my stomach in & don't make my bum look flat & boxy like other brands. I got 14 pairs for about £65.

My order arrived from Amazon. I too have bladder issues, was hoping they'd fix the pad issue. Thank you for this

justasking111 · 06/06/2025 11:09

Well am wearing my Wirapa this morning. Feels very comfortable and secure.

Plenty of other threads for you to bugger off too.
You can just scroll on past those you don't want to read eh?

Ugh trolling in shopping. Honestly.

blueredpurple · 06/06/2025 12:41

I can’t get past one pair of knickers for £17

Stripe and Stare are £18 each or 3 for £37.50. It's worth it for the fit and comfort which I can no longer get in cheaper brands

justasking111 · 06/06/2025 21:58

Paid £26 for five pairs of Wiparella . My only concern it says wash them at 30c. I don't wash anything at that temperature 🙈

Tiredofwhataboutery · 06/06/2025 22:01

GwendolynChappers · 02/06/2025 16:08

They look awful. Nylon. And they'd cut my arse cheek in half with where they sit. Vile.

I wear these and only these.

Love my Wirapa pants. I bought them after a recommendation on here and they are the only pants I wear nowadays.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 06/06/2025 22:10

Sainsbury's knickers are my go to. I can't say I have measured the gusset but having tried many a pair of pants these are all encompassing and secure. And cheap.
