I can recommend these by Chantelle, which are currently reduced on the John Lewis website.

I've just measured the gusset (7cm) similar ones I have from M&S are 5cm - makes a difference!

I've already thought about what kind of society we need and it's one where we all wear comfortable knickers.

First day it's gone, and here I am needing the laughing emoji.

Well played @Shetlands

I bought those innersey ones after seeing a recommendation here. I thought they were utterly ugly with no shape or style and gave the packet to charity. Flabby cotton drawers.

I'm sorry you didn't like them - they're not winning any beauty contests but I find them comfy and they suit my latex allergy. I hope you've found something that suits you better.

these have a 100% cotton 'wide crotch' as they put it!

'Wide' how unkind! It's just normal width we're after, not some skimpy narrow strip!

I find them very soft and comfortable - and not in the least 'Nylony' - I think the word Nylon has put people off. They get 4.5* reviews on the JL website.

Anyway, I've ordered six more pairs as they're reduced - so will have four ivory and four black. I'll now chuck out the M&S Flexifit knickers that I bought last year as they all gone very baggy around the legs.

I bought the flexi fit too. I don’t like them at all!

AMiddleClassWomanOfACertainAge · 02/06/2025 20:49

I have the knicks the OP is recommending. I really rate them. I was also 4 stone heavier when I first bought them and they still fit a few years on. They are nice and light. If you are looking for something to suck you in though they won't do it.

If you're looking for comfortable knickers
John Lewis is the place to go
With a precisely measured gusset
It will not chafe to and fro.

I find nylon knickers very unpleasant, even if they do have a cotton gussett and cost nearly £15!

These knickers feel like nothing and don’t make you sweat

yakkity · 02/06/2025 21:34

GwendolynChappers · 02/06/2025 16:08

They look awful. Nylon. And they'd cut my arse cheek in half with where they sit. Vile.

I wear these and only these.

Why are they called safety shorts? Safe from what?

kind of ugly I think. But that’s not the point. We all should wear what is comfy to us.

uncomfortablydumb60 · 02/06/2025 23:28

They wouldn't be for me. I'm long bodied and knicker styles are Personal choice
My HG of knickers are Uniqlo high waisted
Thick, fab quality with a wide, and at least double layer gusset.
I'm gradually replacing all my others which inevitably turn into dishrags

Olagaia · 02/06/2025 23:39

Another need-a-wide-gusset here … Wirarpa are the best! I tried Innersy but didn’t get on with them (flabby pants on my flab oh dear) and the gusset was too narrow. Definitely a vitally important topic!

bridgetreilly · 03/06/2025 02:23

Stripe and Stare have a really good wide gusset, are very comfortable and I love their colours.

I love Stripe and Stare for the same reasons. I wear their high waisted ones and find they don't roll down at all. My only complaint is they don't bring out all patterns in the high waisted knickers!

lemoncrisp · 03/06/2025 09:08

I love my wirarpa knickers which I bought after seeing them recommended on MN. They feel very reassuringly thick and comfortable with good coverage too.

FlatWhiteOrLatte · 03/06/2025 11:00

Boody full briefs are very comfortable - high waist, wide gusset, wide leg opening.

Yes these are still my favourites.
Super comfy and wedgie-proof!

You wash dishes with them??

This almost beats the loo brush in the dishwasher

aliceinawonderland · 03/06/2025 15:35

Do Wirarpa have a cotton gusset?

Sonolanona · 03/06/2025 18:38

Wirarpa here too... got them after a recommendation on here and won't wear anything else now... they cover everything, really flattering on my tum and great for sports: I play squash and gave up wearing M+S flexifit as spent half my games trying to surreptitiously unhook my pants from my butt!

Uniqlo airism.

cool and barely there. Keep their shape.

I like the Wirarpa mid rise knickers from Amazon, very comfortable and last well.

Thanks I've just ordered these. I can't wear nylon knickers. They're very reasonable cost as well

I imagine most stretchy knickers are Nylon of some sort, otherwise they wouldn't stretch!

No, they are usually something-and-lycra.

Newnameformenow · 04/06/2025 14:15

What makes knickers go up your bum? What shape best to avoid it?

Tried all sorts, ones like the pp linked to, m&S, sloggi. Usually cotton fill briefs, high waist. Whatever I get I always end up having to constantly fish them out. Not a good look.

Hoppinggreen · 04/06/2025 14:17

Milaking · 02/06/2025 11:22

are there serious discussions oon Mumsnet…, steer me in the direction. Yes, buy knickers, yes I would like freebies and my daughter annoys me. But that it is not my whole life - we are living in uncertain times and all of us must have opinions of how our families should go forward. We need to think what kind of society we want to bring up our children.

Eh?
I want to live and bring up my children in a world where there are comfy knickers with a decent gusset

InjuryMyArse · 04/06/2025 19:51

I am so missing the laugh emoji 😂
