Skinny/straight jeans were more flattering and easier

I have a theory, (you’ll probably all say it’s wrong 😀) that skinny and or straight jeans were easier to choose and style than these great flapping things we’re supposed to wear at the moment.
Being out last night, unless you’re like a size 6 the big wide jeans just make you look well, big and wide. Agree skinny weren’t for Everyone but most arses looked better in them.

I love skinnies, my legs/bum are my best bit, so I want to show them off!

Butterflyfern · 05/04/2025 08:00

Like everything, some styles suit some people. Lucky there is no one obvious jeans shape trend ATM so you alcan wear what you like.

However, I have a theory that people were so used to seeing skinny shaped trousers for so long, it's taking a while to visually adjust to volume there instead.

StubbornStool · 05/04/2025 08:01

Of course you can wear what you like, that’s not what the thread is about. The fact is that for most people closer fitting jeans looked better.

I agree.
I wear straight jeans ( look like a Parsnip in skinny)
Flares only look good on willowy types to my eye. But that was always the case.
Each to their own and all though.

LoudSnoringDog · 05/04/2025 08:26

I’m 4ft11 so look ridiculous in wide jeans

FourEyesGood · 05/04/2025 08:27

We’re all different! I have big thighs; skinny jeans looked absolutely ridiculous on me, so I never wore them. Straight jeans looked OK; they still do. Wide legs are comfy and look better, and I don’t have to wrestle them on.

ItisIbeserk · 05/04/2025 08:29

I never stopped wearing bootcut as they did wonders for my legs. Wide leg are brilliant as they skim over my tummy better at the top. I have a pair of mahoosive palazzo jeans now and am getting loads of compliments. Skinny were always too clingy for me round my middle and straight just didn’t rock my boat.

1apenny2apenny · 05/04/2025 08:29

I’m short and evenly proportioned but have fat thighs. I can wear either but I have to style the top accordingly - wide jeans/trousers (need to be fitted at waist hips) = short top or tucked in shirt, straight jeans = bigger top/jumper or open shirt. I can get away with tucked in shirt with straights but only because I’ve lost weight. I however love bootleg as the shape flatters me.

So it’s about how you style them as much as anything.

Sassysoonwins · 05/04/2025 08:32

I'm short (5ft 4) and stocky with a huge chest. I look like a bog roll in wide jeans. Much better in straight jeans when you at least see I have some shape. The younger generation are duty bound to find ways not to look like their parents so good on them for finding their thing but I'll stick to what suits me.

Gundogday · 05/04/2025 08:36

I’m pear shaped and love the wide-leg styles in fashion. Skinnies never suited me.

Some women will always look best in skinnies.

Worldgonecrazy · 05/04/2025 08:38

I agree. I saw a group of women out the other night, each was wearing a different style of jeans and were all of a similar height and size (about size 10 to 12). The most flattering style was the narrow leg/dkinny. The flares /boot cut looked ok. The wide leg looked ill proportioned. The barrel leg were the worst, they made the woman’s legs look about 2ft long - incredibly unflattering.

Unfortunately fashions need to continue to change to make us spend our money.

Jeezitneverends · 05/04/2025 08:38

I’m 5’7 size 14 so not exactly short and fat but all my height is in my back, I look SO stumpy in wide jeans! I’m so glad for bootlegs hitting the shops again, they’re definitely the best for me

Coali · 05/04/2025 08:38

I disagree, I think skinny jeans don’t suit a lot of people, but everyone just got used to the shape. I love the wide legged jeans (even on a shorter stature), it’s made me want to wear jeans again!

I agree, i wore my skinnies and met two guys yesterday....it may look old fashioned but the men still love it. I've never wanted to look like a whale in mummy jeans. Unflattering.

Gundogday · 05/04/2025 08:46

If they’re unflattering, you’re wearing the wrong shape jeans for your body shape.

Branleuse · 05/04/2025 08:48

the type of jeans you like is a very individual thing.
Luckily, most shops seem to have a variety of styles to choose from

that must be so validating for you.

henlake7 · 05/04/2025 08:51

Skinnies are not for me.
Im a size 8/10 and do plenty of cardio so logically I should look ok in them but they just make me feel uncomfortable. I hate having to squeeze my legs into a pair of trousers (not fond of leggings as trousers either).
Yesterday I wore barrel legged jeans and felt very comfy and more relaxed.

Maybe it is just a matter of what you are used to. Im over 50 but was seriously obese when skinnies came into fashion so I never really got into them (figuratively or literally!!LOL).

springbringshope · 05/04/2025 08:54

No. Skinnies do not make most arses look better.
no one jean shape does. Good grief skinnies make some arses look HORRENDOUS.

I agree that wide leg also don’t suit everyone.

why do some people have such a need to put a stake in the sand about jean shapes? They are different. Our bodies are different. We all suit different jeans.

SnoozingFox · 05/04/2025 08:55

So wear straight or skinny jeans. They still sell them.

You met two guys? What does that even mean? Did you feel validated?
you do realise don’t you that many men will find anything tight, short, low cut and transparent alluring no matter how awful woman looks in them. It’s not an indication of a flattering outfit.

SheridansPortSalut · 05/04/2025 09:01

When skinnies came out first I a lot of people felt that bootcut were much more flattering and easy to style than the new skinnies.

Obviously different styles suit different figures but there's an element of what we're used to too.

unclejoesmintballz · 05/04/2025 09:08

I wear my skinny jeans all the time. Has anyone tried getting their ankles into a Primark pair though 😂
Have had to literally cut them off in the past.

StubbornStool · 05/04/2025 09:10

Agree if you have enormous thighs that’s not great.
but straight maybe
