Oh closed toe summer where art thou

First up, confession: owing to a savage stubbing, I have a manky toenail that I wish to hide from the world this summer, until it heals.

So, I need a pair of closed-toe summer shoes/sandals to wear to the office/casual, to the pub etc. I have other shoes for beach, walks etc and I’m not looking for ballet pumps (too thin-soled) or trainers (too hot).

Dont mind an open back but need to be practical enough to walk in. Any hardware must be silver-toned.

Anyone seen anything?

I went to a swiftie party for 8 year olds a few months ago. They were wearing little boots a look a like singer entertainer was hired

It's Beth mania at the moment.

I have a pair similar to this from TKMax (bought years ago) my DC and DH dislike them. I love them and still wear them. We go away a lot and I like my feet to breathe so something like these sandals allows that while also hiding offending claw toes!

I don’t like my toes but as I get older I don’t care as much so I do wear them out sometimes now. I can pick things up with my toes too so as I age I am glad of this skill 🦶

Gabor often have nice pumps for summer

I came on to suggest Gabor too, and maybe other 'sensible' shoe purveyors like Clarks, Ecco etc; they sometimes have slightly quirky and surprisingly nice pumps that are a bit more sturdy than ballet flats.

Beautiful. I wish I could still wear, mules or heels 😢

I have missing toenails, I just don't care. I go out in thong sandals regardless. A manicurist can file that nail down for you nice and smooth with an electric file and paint your toenails for you. That could work.

I gave up with heels during COVID and only manage with mules round the house/garden/pool!

People recommending a false toenail - doesn’t that just encourage a fungal infection underneath, where theres’s a broken nail and nail bed exposed?

I wonder about the (brave) people who “do” feet! Other than new baby feet, which are divine, they’re horrid. I can’t imagine choosing to touch another adult’s feet, nor anyone touching, or looking at mine.

My toenails are thick and curved, like claws, and surely a false nail on top would make them look even thicker? It’s already hard finding shoes with a deep enough toe box.

There are some really nice ideas suggested on this thread, that I wouldn’t have thought of, thanks OP for starting it!

Fit Flop have some nice mules and clogs. www.fitflop.com/uk/en/shop/delicato-soft-leather-mules-p-IT4#A99

I love Menorcan sandals. They’re sort of open, but you can’t actually see any toe really.

I also live in my Birky Bostons, like a lot of others on this thread.

I like Menorcan sandals too. Went to a leather factory there. I think it's the softest leather I've ever felt.

I’ve had these in my Etsy wish list for the longest time. Maybe this year… https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/853904923/?ref=share_ios_native_control
