Oh closed toe summer where art thou

First up, confession: owing to a savage stubbing, I have a manky toenail that I wish to hide from the world this summer, until it heals.

So, I need a pair of closed-toe summer shoes/sandals to wear to the office/casual, to the pub etc. I have other shoes for beach, walks etc and I’m not looking for ballet pumps (too thin-soled) or trainers (too hot).

Dont mind an open back but need to be practical enough to walk in. Any hardware must be silver-toned.

Anyone seen anything?

I bought some M&S gold ones. They're lovely. I think I saw some in Primark the other week. Fabric so they'd be cool on hot days.

Do you have a link to the fabric M&S gold ones?

Sandylittleknees · 05/04/2025 06:53

It’s copied the link in French for some reason but they do ship to England!

PatChaunceysFruitCake · 05/04/2025 07:05

I bought these last summer. They were fab for work... went with everything and very comfortable.

I know you said not ballet shoes but these are pumps... they have a proper sole.

I found this at John Lewis & Partners. What do you think? https://www.johnlewis.com/gabor-sabia-wide-fit-leather-pumps-white/p112851973?tmad=c&tmcampid=7&sshare=jlappioss_Y29tLmFwcGxlLlVJS2l0LmFjdGl2aXR5LkNvcHlUb1Bhc3RlYm9hcmQ=

Some of those sling backs are lovely and stylish looking but so pointy!!! I'll never get my square feet in there.

I hate pointy toed shoes. They look so uncomfortable.

The Next shoes linked earlier are lovely though.

Gabor often have nice pumps for summer

I trawled several city centres last summer for similar. Stumbled upon Pikolinos who have THE BEST closed toe range. I can only access their US website at the moment for some reason, but if you find a stockist go try some on - lots of different closed to options!

Hotter have a few closed toe sandals - Catskills, Lake, May

Duckies · 05/04/2025 08:09

How closed? E.g. if your toes were mostly closed in by a cage would it work? Some fisherman's sandals are mostly enclosed.

NancyJoan · 05/04/2025 08:13

I like a fisherman style. Not completely closed, but manky toe won’t be too obvious. www.marksandspencer.com/suede-leopard-print-buckle-flat-sandals/p/clp60725591?intid=mobile_app_pdp_share

A pretty but casual loafer?

These are quite pricy but something along these lines...

I have a pair of salt water shark sandals. Would they be closed enough? I fine them really comfortable although I know some people don't like how flat they are.

Have you tried a menorcan sandal?

Saw those on Instagram, they do look lovely.

Saw those on Instagram, they do look lovely.

Sadly, they don't look supportive enough for my feet. My podiatrist would hate those.

Cocolapew · 05/04/2025 08:58

I got a pair of Fitflop cova for the same reason, it was years ago though so I'm not sure they still do them. There's loads on ebay though.

Fisherman-style sandals will hide your toes, while still looking nice and summery.
