Oh closed toe summer where art thou

First up, confession: owing to a savage stubbing, I have a manky toenail that I wish to hide from the world this summer, until it heals.

So, I need a pair of closed-toe summer shoes/sandals to wear to the office/casual, to the pub etc. I have other shoes for beach, walks etc and I’m not looking for ballet pumps (too thin-soled) or trainers (too hot).

Dont mind an open back but need to be practical enough to walk in. Any hardware must be silver-toned.

Anyone seen anything?

Dansko Rowan. American, but available on Amazon UK. I love them, but they are more expensive than they look.

NotMilanese · 05/04/2025 17:00

Also El Naturalista Wakataua for a slightly less pricey option although from Spain. A Mumsnetter recommended them to me last year.🙌

These maybe, or their flexpadrilles.

Am I the only person who just can't wear slingbacks? If they're tight enough to stay on they give me blisters, if they're looser then they flap about at the back.

Every 10 years or so when they come back round into fashion I hope that some engineering whiz has redesigned them, but they're always the same.

Maybe I just have oddly shaped feet (I do have relatively narrow heels I think)

Oh god I HATE slingbacks too, glad I'm not the only one. They do a weird thing where they dig into the back of my heel and leave a big groove that makes me feel sick to look at. If I don't do them up tight they flick off all the time. Haven't worn them since the 90s.

My social media is awash with ads for sandals today 😁

There's a kind of a rubber thing you can use for sling backs to stop them slipping

Hi Op

I had a dodgy toe also and have now found someone that does toenail reconstruction, highly recommend if you can find a technician trained in using LCN this is the lady that does mine in Shropshire and she has saved me, my toes are ready and awaiting yo be shown off again!

I have some Josef Seibel Rosalie sandals which are very comfortable, there are various colours and styles of Rosalie which may suit.

I know now that Toast is not my kind of store after seeing 2 x "sandals" on this thread.

I have a Jones The Bootmaker version of these that I have had for years. Extremely useful with summer jumpsuits, trousers and maxis/midaxis if you are tall. However, I don't walk any distance in them

I have my eye on these ridiculous but absolutely gorgeous things!

Air and Grace

Insane price, shop around because they are never going to be a mule you will walk any distance in. In my book 3 figs are out of that's the case.

I have a pair of salt water shark sandals. Would they be closed enough? I fine them really comfortable although I know some people don't like how flat they are.

Lovely and versatile and I would buy if I didn't have a high instep

Booboobagins · 06/04/2025 18:26

I bought these in black but I do like the white ones too.

Absolutely love them!

Comfy, give a bit of height and cover toes perfectly!!!

Paulettamcgee · 06/04/2025 18:34

I'm looking for something similar to this but in leather, any suggestions please?

Sorry for jumping in on your thread op.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 06/04/2025 19:28

@paulettamcgee L K Bennett have that style. £199 though...

Nichebitch · 06/04/2025 19:31

What’s your budget? You could get the ganni slingbacks with a discount if you’ve never bought from them before, they’re wonderful but still 280 or so…

Astrabees · 06/04/2025 20:28

Another vote for Fly London. Someone was showing some lovely summer shoes with a full toe on Instagram, they have summery colours too, the ones I saw were sort of Watermelon.
