sexy but understated outfit for rare weekend away

Hubby and I are having a cheeky weekend away whilst our son is home from uni to look after the dogs. We are early and mid forties have been married for over 20 years. I have bought some gorgeous sexy black underwear, including suspenders (note to self don't forget to buy the stockings) to bring a bit of spice as I know he will love that.

I have booked a table for one evening in a very nice but quite relaxed restaurant. I would love put the underwear on to go out in and give him a flash enroute so he knows what he is waiting for him. However I dont want to look over dressed up, or it be so obvious that everybody else will know. I'm not thinking little black dress with seamed stocking and high heels. I think I want understated, tempting, tantalising and classy sexy rather than the full on raunchy, explicit sexy I would have done for him many moons ago.

I am about a curvy size 14, tiny waist, with huge boobs (34G), big hips, bum and quite large legs. I generally wear trousers or jeans day to day, haven't worn a short dress in years, but do wear maxi dresses in the summer. I prefer v necks or low neck because of my boobs.

I would love some some ideas, thoughts, inspiration, links photos on what I can wear over the top of the full sexy ensemble underneath. What would you wear? I think I am picturing a long dress of some description (I really don't like my legs & cankles), I don't have high heels, I do have a few pairs of kitten heels but I also don't want to look old fashioned or dated, perhaps more sexy modern fun. What shoes would you pair with the outfit too, as I am clueless on that also. I am happy to spend £200 ish if need be.

Any help will be grateful received, by me and him!

I wear stockings and suspenders all the time when going out, unless it's summer. Can't stand tights and gussets so it's a practical thing and I'm late fifties. I'd wear the suggested leather/pleather midi skirt and boots or low heels and a low v neck sweater, nice and louche. Have a fabulous night!

Wow! There’s another thread running about people who wear leggings all the time as they can’t even be bothered with actual trousers so stockings and suspenders regularly is a whole other level of effort!

Hi OP, I’d wear some animal print satin trousers with a black cami and a smart black blazer. Enjoy your weekend away!

What a nasty reply. I wear leggings a lot and it’s nothing to do with not bothering with trousers. As someone previously said stockings and suspenders were standard underwear in the past. I was always taught if you can’t say something nice don’t say anything at all.

I don’t think my response was nasty at all - marvelling at someone who wears full stockings and suspenders regularly which may have been standard underwear in the past but certainly isn’t now. If you want to take offence at something that wasn’t even directed at you then that’s on you. I also wear leggings a lot 😂

HellsBells67 · 22/02/2025 11:02

I'm not offended mainly because I never give a flying shit about other people's opinion of my underwear, other than my dh Grin

Thingymajigii · 22/02/2025 11:55

Lots of men like holdups/stockings - I don't really get it but do wear them sometimes for my boyfriend. I go for holdups so they're not lumpy under my clothes. For a sexier look, I wear a wool jumper dress with thin belt and suede knee length boots and some nice jewellery. I quite like Sezane for inspiration for looks. I also like the sound of the satin skirt/cashmere cardigan look someone suggested.

Gymbunny2025 · 22/02/2025 12:02

I'd be paranoid about them rolling down all evening personally and ending up around my ankles 😂

Scatternobrains · 22/02/2025 12:28

I took some inspiration from many of you and ordered a few bits last night, and we have a winner.

A long floaty black wrap skirt so no legs/cankles on show, a discreet lowish split up one side but I can cope with that. Nobody else will even know I have stockings and suspenders on underneath.

Although its not leather or suede, which I think were lovely ideas I just couldn't find any that I really really liked, it's very heavy material so hangs beautifully and it is lovely to touch. It really is lovely and perfect for me.

I have tried it on with a variety of boots, different colours/patterns and heel heights/type and all look really good. I already have some different colour silk camis and a reiss larsson camel blazer and numerous cashmere jumpers all of which work really well so I definitely have a few different option.

The stockings even arrived, and when I put it all I looked hot and felt super sexy in a way I haven't felt in over a decade. Roll on next weekend!

Skirt below just incase any body else likes this kind of thing, it really is lovely.

I LOVE the skirt you went with OP

PollyIndia · 22/02/2025 14:11

Yes I really like the skirt you went with too. Best of all the options I'd say! Have a great night

IlooklikeNigella · 22/02/2025 14:33

Gorgeous, OP - have an amazing night.

Off topic but was anyone else highly entertained by the PP demanding to know what OP's husband would be doing to make himself sexy? No idea why she thinks she's entitled to an explanation on this. I look like a lunatic laughing here to myself in a cafe.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/02/2025 15:04

I think it's a fair point though tbh. The most dp has ever done is put a clean pair of pants on!

I think the skirt you went for was a brilliant choice @Scatternobrains

Gymbunny2025 · 22/02/2025 15:07

Tbf if me and Dh had £200 allocated on a budget for getting dressed up on a night away- absolutely I would be spending most of it on me 😂. We would both get more pleasure out of that

FKAT · 22/02/2025 15:12

Great skirt, love it.

WashableVelvet · 22/02/2025 16:03

Great skirt. I’d prob go with one if the cashmere sweaters rather than a silk cami, just because fiddly undies can be slightly bumpy (Lacey texture tetc) and that can show through under satin.

HellsBells67 · 22/02/2025 16:25

Adore that black skirt, may have to buy it. Have a fabulous night op!

Kattuccino · 22/02/2025 16:33

Love your skirt and the Mint Velvet dress
Have an amazing weekend OP!

bedbroker · 22/02/2025 16:37

I actually love that skirt! Looks like a wardrobe workhorse/basic as well as being flattering.

ItGhoul · 22/02/2025 18:12

Absolutely love both those skirts @Scatternobrains - perfect for the look you’re going for.

Puppylucky · 22/02/2025 18:41

What a beautiful skirt - have a wonderful time OP!

kimmisara · 22/02/2025 21:40

How about spending some of your budget on a pair of knee/thigh high boots? I know you said you don’t like your ankles. Then a jumper dress over the top would look nice maybe one with a bit of a split up the side and whatever neckline your comfortable with :)

AndThereSheGoes · 22/02/2025 22:38

Hiya. I wasn't asking for any explanation.

I was pointing out it's unlikely her husband is asking his mates what looks good, preparing to spend up to £200 and wearing something unnecessary and limiting because it's "sexy". I bet he'll be just wearing something normal, maybe washed and ironed with a bit of aftershave.

Anyway the Op's choice of skirt is really nice so everyone is happy.,

kellionette · 22/02/2025 23:17

OP, I really like the look of that Mint Velvet dress and I'm thinking of ordering one, but I'm worried that it looks as though it would get really creased when worn (especially since it has some linen content). Please can you tell me how creasy it is? 🙏
