sexy but understated outfit for rare weekend away

Scatternobrains · 21/02/2025 13:43

Hubby and I are having a cheeky weekend away whilst our son is home from uni to look after the dogs. We are early and mid forties have been married for over 20 years. I have bought some gorgeous sexy black underwear, including suspenders (note to self don't forget to buy the stockings) to bring a bit of spice as I know he will love that.

I have booked a table for one evening in a very nice but quite relaxed restaurant. I would love put the underwear on to go out in and give him a flash enroute so he knows what he is waiting for him. However I dont want to look over dressed up, or it be so obvious that everybody else will know. I'm not thinking little black dress with seamed stocking and high heels. I think I want understated, tempting, tantalising and classy sexy rather than the full on raunchy, explicit sexy I would have done for him many moons ago.

I am about a curvy size 14, tiny waist, with huge boobs (34G), big hips, bum and quite large legs. I generally wear trousers or jeans day to day, haven't worn a short dress in years, but do wear maxi dresses in the summer. I prefer v necks or low neck because of my boobs.

I would love some some ideas, thoughts, inspiration, links photos on what I can wear over the top of the full sexy ensemble underneath. What would you wear? I think I am picturing a long dress of some description (I really don't like my legs & cankles), I don't have high heels, I do have a few pairs of kitten heels but I also don't want to look old fashioned or dated, perhaps more sexy modern fun. What shoes would you pair with the outfit too, as I am clueless on that also. I am happy to spend £200 ish if need be.

Any help will be grateful received, by me and him!

It doesn’t read like that at all. Men fantasising like that absolutely don’t talk about maxi dresses and kitten heels.

They do. They really do. I could provide a link, but that site contains sights no woman should have to see — like men in suspenders falling out of their lacy thongs.

The weird thing is that I'm a woman and I've never heard a single woman of my acquaintance talk like this.

The OP has a posting history. Other than the Sezanne dress the other suggestions are just silly.

The styling of the Sezanne dress however is one of the reasons I don't like Sezanne- that awful, "I'm so French and sexy and tousled, I've just fallen out of bed and can't find my bra, knickers or a hairbrush" look.

But I suppose properly buttoned and worn normally it's just an ordinary dress you could get in Boden.

Doggymummar · 21/02/2025 18:22

I'm glad I'm not the only one who found it odd, though I couldn't think of anything positive to say so scrolled on by. I say save the lingerie for the boudoir if that's what floats your boat and go for dinner dressed regular

Hi, all. Remember that trollhunting breaks our Talk Guidelines, so please refrain from doing it. If you have any concerns, report them straight to us as opposed to derailing threads. Thanks.

Eww. Sheer stockings are so fusty, especially if you have chunky legs.
Its all so "readers wives".
Also is his planning on buying £200 worth of clothes and dress up so you find HIM more sexually desirable ?

I'd save the stockings and suspenders for "padding round the bedroom". Put on a fab low cut dress, bit tighter than normal and enjoy your meal.

Friedshed · 21/02/2025 19:32

Why does this read so weird? Are you actually 65 and writing from the 1980s and a man?

I'm almost exactly the same size/ build as you OP, and I love lovely underwear (DH doesn't give a monkeys but it makes me feel nice).

We went for dinner last night somewhere casual and I wore a super soft vintage denim shirt in a light wash, quite oversized and not quite buttoned up properly so there was a little flash of lace every now and then, chocolate suede barrel leg trousers, and some dark gold kitten sling backs. I did also toy with a pair of battered leather western style boots - would work if you weren't ankle-confident.

@bostonchamps where did you get your suede barrel trousers from, love the osund of them. Did you wear them over suspenders?

😂We rarely agree on here, but I’m 100% with you on this. If I wore that dress with the buttons undone like that, dp would just think I’d forgotten to finish getting dressed. 😂 Fabulous post!

Lillygolightly · 21/02/2025 20:08

OP, I’m going to go against the grain somewhat here and don’t find anything wrong at all with what you’re suggesting. Stockings and suspenders are absolutely fine to wear out or to dinner (under clothing of course) it used to be very typical standard underwear once upon a time, there is nothing scandalous about it, and I’m sure you aren’t planning on flashing a whole room full of unsuspecting diners!

If your having a lovely weekend away with your hubby and wanting to spice things up the last thing you want is for things to feel ordinary and just the same as you might do at home….what is the point of that!!

Nothing wrong at all in planning and to wear something a bit special that you know you will feel great in! So don’t listen to those telling you that you can’t or that you shouldn’t!! You can if that’s what you want to do!!! More power to you!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/02/2025 20:12

People aren’t actually saying that though. They’re saying wear and enjoy the underwear, but don’t dip it in anybody else’s soup, as it were.

Scatternobrains · 21/02/2025 20:19

I have never worn a midi length skirt, always paranoid about my legs, but do like them on other people. That as an option wouldn't have occured to me and love the ideas of different textures and materials. I think that and a nice cashmere relaxed jumper could be perfect for me, and both could easily be worn again and again. Thanks for the ideas.

Also thanks for the laughs, on rough days I could probably be mistaken for a Brian, but you will all be pleased to know I haven't been getting any kicks out of any of your comments, I just genuinely wanted a bit of help!

Sorry you've had some unkind and unhelpful responses, OP. I've no advice but hope you have a great weekend.

@AndThereSheGoes wow you really know how to lift and support other women!! Perhaps you could take a little time to consider how helpful your comments are and how they can make other people feel before posting.

I love your weekend idea! When I was in my early 50s, we walked around Paris one evening with me wearing just a basque & stockings under a long coat. It's fun to dress up sometimes but make sure you don't give him a heart attack!

Resisterance · 21/02/2025 20:36

Are you a man OP?

BuddhaAtSea · 21/02/2025 20:53

How about a jumpsuit? I have a navy one, not revealing at all, but I do need help with doing and undoing it. Mine is navy, with palazzo bottoms.
Not sure how it would go with suspenders, never really crossed my mind to wear some, but I suppose if the bottom is loose enough, they won’t show?

Again....what are your husband plans to make himself more sexualised for you? Does he even need to?

Also this is Style and Beauty. Others have suggested styles you might like . I ( and others) have suggested your choices may be not so good.
I see no difference between saying certain tops don't flatter large norms and me saying stockings are unflattering to anyone without gazelle sized legs and make you look 2 decades out of style.

I think this is perfect and can be dressed up or down for other occasions

I also think this is perfect.

The Kooples also have maxi dresses with a slit on the side. Simultaneously modest and ‘invitation’ friendly.

Whatwouldnanado · 21/02/2025 22:01

Agree about the Sezane frock. Do a couple of buttons up and it’ll be perfect for work afterwards.

bostonchamps · 21/02/2025 22:18

@Scatternobrains they're River Island! I can't post a link but if you search for suede barrel on their app they come up. Actually super decent quality, they were about £160ish I think. I've had them for about two weeks and worn them loads already - they look good with my brogues as well.

There's also an Autograph pair floating around but they're black, and just didn't hang quite right on me.

I didn't have suspenders on but the shape would totally allow for them.

HellsBells67 · 21/02/2025 23:50

I wear stockings and suspenders all the time when going out, unless it's summer. Can't stand tights and gussets so it's a practical thing and I'm late fifties. I'd wear the suggested leather/pleather midi skirt and boots or low heels and a low v neck sweater, nice and louche. Have a fabulous night!
