Stuck in a complete run with my wardrobe and need a bit of a refresh to look a bit more up to date.

Winter I live in skinny jeans and a roll neck with ankle or knee high boots or wellies

Summer, cropped trousers and a tunic type top, with flats or trainers (trainer socks!)

Not great on stuff being tight around my middle as apple shaped so can't get away with belts or tight waistbands.

Can anyone share some looks, ideally pictures so I can update a bit.

@Pigtailsandall
The amount of people
on MN who live rurally In surprised the votes aren't desolate .

boxyboxs · 07/02/2025 17:48

I always imagine the average MNs to live rurally. So many seem to be anti neighbours or wouldn't consider a property without off street parking!

I’m a city gal and wouldn’t be seen dead in leggings and a tunic.

Today I wore a knitted mini dress, DMs, puffer coat and a Vivienne Westwood scarf. None of it is particularly ‘current’ but it was event and weather appropriate and I didn’t feel or look like a twat, which is always my main criteria for getting dressed.

Yes a marker of lack of wealth, having or not having.

Wealthy people don’t care. I was at Turnberry golf course for dinner, dressed up, I thought to not look out of place among the ‘posh’. People were flying in in personal helicopters, landing in front of the hotel, and so were monied, and without exception, they dressed down. I mean women in clothes like coal sacks, men in scruffy shorts and tee shirts. The truly rich don’t have anything to prove. I was overdressed in my brand new, very expensive outfit. The people we were dining with, who were staying the weekend there, were equally scruffy.
There’s a misconception that wealth equals dressing up all the time.

Wear a style that suits your shape and life style

AlleyRose · 09/02/2025 09:26

Princess of Wales still wearing her skinnies. Don't know what that says about her wealth?

If they suit you, wear them.

If they don't suit you but you like them, wear them anyway ☺️

So what's fashionable now? Help!

She's certainly well-put together but I wouldn't call her fashionable necessarily. But I don't get the point about wealth and jeans shape either

I think my main beef with skinny jeans is that so many women think they look good/their best in them, when actually exploring different shapes would show them that's not true. They just seem to be a default option (maybe because they are often stretchy and therefore they seem like they fit well?)

Possibly they were proving that their terrifyingly expensive sacklike and scruffy looking clothes would only be recognisable by other ‘truly wealthy’ people?

I go look in the fast fashion High Street shops to see what's trending. Primark are a good guide to what's filtered through from the catwalks into mass reproduction, H&M too.

I don't wear fast fashion but I do look to see if anything I already own is back on trend.

Floisme · 09/02/2025 09:54

I don't have an inherent dislike of skinnies but right now I'm still bored by the very thought of them. My beef with them is to do with the stranglehold they held over the high street the last time around. I think of them as the Japanese Knotweed of fashion.

I'm sure I'll give them another go at some point but first I'll need to find a way of seeing them with fresh eyes and telling me how practical they are in the rain isn't it.

@Pigtailsandall
Agreed POW isn't fashionable, she's safe and well dressed.
Too many wear skinnies when it's the worse thing for their shape.
Too many don't dress to suit their shape/size.
