Embracing wide leg jeans - do these suit me?

Wondered if these look ok?

I've been a lover of skinnies for years and haven't worn jeans for about the best part of a year because I'm not keen on the newer styles.

Anyhow, went for it and have had mixed opinions in real life ranging from...

"You look beautiful" (from 6 year old) to
"Hideous, not classic and don't suit you" (straight talking friend!

So keep and wear or the search goes on?

Oh, maybe the wideness is tucked slightly or my picture is terrible but they are definitely wide and not straight!

In my opinion, you look good in them, as they seem to balance you out, so to speak.
Wear them with pride and confidence, and they'll look even better !!!!

SecretSoul · 01/02/2025 07:08

I love these on you!

I wouldn’t call them wide leg either - maybe a slight bootcut or straight?

I don’t love the colour of the first pair or the shirt - but I do like the length of the top with the second pair. I don’t like tops that sit high on the waistband as they always seem to chop you in half a bit! And definitely not tucked in.

Stick with this style of jeans OP. You look fab!

(Have to confess though. I hate skinnies and have always loved wide leg jeans so might be a teeny bit biased 🫣😂)

Kitsmummy · 01/02/2025 07:25

Nah...the first pic looks like something Ellen De Generes would wear.

The second pic...not long enough or wide enough. But you've definitely got the figure to carry off the right pair of palazzo pants style jeans when you find them.

I wouldn't say either pair is wide leg. And both sit a bit oddly. The second pair looks to be about an inch too short.

I am also struggling for non-skinny jeans. I have a pair of boyfriend jeans that I think look good in summer turned up and worn with sandals, and one pair of wide legs that have a lot of fabric and really need to be worn with heeled boots so they don't drag in the ground. Neither is as comfortable or versatile as my old skinnies.

RedRiverShore5 · 01/02/2025 08:48

Those jeans look in between wide and straight. I have some straight leg Levis 90s 501s and they are a bit narrower than the pictured jeans.

Commonsenseisnotsocommon · 01/02/2025 09:01

They look good on you and I'd wear but I'd ditch the shirt, scarf and trainers, they're making you look like you've just come out of an Internet cafe in 2008 between lessons at college. Enjoy your new trousers.

Cyclingmummy1 · 01/02/2025 09:19

The shape suits you but I'd go with a shirt (crisp white anyone? 😁) and vest or jumper. I'd also class the first pair as straight leg. The second look wider.

jasmine465 · 01/02/2025 15:17

The actual cut of the jeans is nice and I do think the wide leg suits you, but I would go for a higher waist and cinch it in with a belt, otherwise you risk looking like the clothes are overwhelming you if you have a baggier top on like the shirt as well. The scarf and the shoes look a bit dated and don't really match the vibe of the jeans, so I would look to accessorise the whole outfit differently.

Where are you buying these jeans from ?

They look like they're from like the uncoolest shop ever trying to very badly copy a trend and failing

Wide jeans are cut in a certain way and these just aren't like that at all

Nonsense. Just take a look at Sézane. Fashion editor'scavd every Parisian's favourite

The example you give is like something my 17 year old would wear. Cool for the very young but the OPs variety is much more chic and on trend by the adult fashion crowd.

@chargeitup the wide leg trousers you've posted are similar to all my wide leg trousers yes but not wide leg jeans

Plus they look nothing like the OP photos in the slightest

So yes my grown up wide leg trousers look like your photos

KittenPause · 02/02/2025 04:09

Anyway OP has a cracking figure so once she finds the right Jean for her which we all know are like gold dust, no matter how they look on a top model in a photo, they never always quite transfer that way to us mere mortals

OP wide leg or not you look great

The black jeans suit you better than the first photo that's for sure

I live in a very trendy part of the country so we have all sorts of varying styles of wide leg etc and no one is particularly judgemental if you get it right is wrong.

But if you see someone wearing a pair of jeans or anything at all you like then ask them. I do and they're always happy to share.

KittenPause · 02/02/2025 04:12

Well there is no right or wrong you just wear what you like and what suits you

Persista · 03/02/2025 00:42

You look great in both. I'd just tuck in and add a belt.
If I saw you in the street I'd think you look effortlessly cool.

They need to hang like this to look good

Dear God no. Maybe OK on a teen, but they look ridiculous.
The OP looks good to me, skinny jeans are dreadful and love that they are moving out!

I'm late 40s and wear jeans very much like those photos and I look fucking awesome 😀 even my teen DC begrudgingly admit that I have pretty good dress sense. The key thing is that I feel great wearing them, and it's that feeling that shows I think.

I think the black jeans look near on exactly like the Sézane style of jean.

moonshinepoursthroughmywindow · 04/02/2025 09:59

I wouldn't really call them wide leg, they look more straight to me.

They don't actively not suit you, but they are a very neutral shape and also a very neutral colour. They are not jeans I would wear if I wanted to be noticed, especially with a top in almost the same colour which means there are no interesting contrasts in the look. I'd wear them for practical reasons, for walks or just pottering about at home.
