Embracing wide leg jeans - do these suit me?

Wondered if these look ok?

I've been a lover of skinnies for years and haven't worn jeans for about the best part of a year because I'm not keen on the newer styles.

Anyhow, went for it and have had mixed opinions in real life ranging from...

"You look beautiful" (from 6 year old) to
"Hideous, not classic and don't suit you" (straight talking friend!

So keep and wear or the search goes on?

They look like mum jeans. The fit is good but the colour isn't, especially with that top.

SnoopysHoose · 31/01/2025 10:29

Tbh, nothing is on trend if that's your aim.
The shirt and scarf do not complement the bleugh colour jeans, shoes are ok for a child.

GreenJasper · 31/01/2025 11:02

Yikes 😬😬

That was brutal!!! 🤣

I clearly have limited style or fashion!!

They def are sold as wide leg jeans and attached is todays version.

Appreciate the feedback!

Will go hunting for a belt!!

It's your styling that's the problem not the jeans. This is the look you want to be going for.

Fiah · 31/01/2025 11:07

Sorry the pictures didn't upload. It's tucked in tops and shirts with wide jeans.

WrinklesShminkles · 31/01/2025 11:09

You look great in both. Keep your own style - you asked for an opinion on the trousers, not your whole outfits.

SnoopysHoose · 31/01/2025 11:14

Today much better, do you have any bright coloured tops, the top again is bleuch colour.

Definitely tuck the top in with wide legs!!

FedUpandEatingChocolate · 31/01/2025 11:21

They look great on you, your friend is talking out of their arse!

I'm not sure the colour goes with the shirt colour, but they look fab with the shoes.

SoScarletItWas · 31/01/2025 11:36

Today’s pic - the indigo colour jeans are much better.

Deffo need to tuck in or have a top that sits right on the waistband.

They will suit you well once you sort out the top, they look a great fit.

IesuGrist1975 · 31/01/2025 11:39

Regardless of shape, I think they look really nice on you and fit well.

edited to say that was about the first pair, I’m not fussed on the colour of the second ones fatty definitely need a lighter and a dark pair of any shape jeans in my opinion.

MagicalMystical · 31/01/2025 12:11

@IesuGrist1975 did you mean to write fatty? 😂 I’m guessing not 😂 Not sure what the typo should’ve said though.

@GreenJasper cute dog! Goldendoodle? I didn’t mind the colour of the other pair. I think either pair are fine, but with a different style and colour of top. I think wider jeans would be better than the two you’ve tried as both pairs are a bit nothing. I enjoy wearing mine with a massive baggy colourful dress and small cropped cardi so I disagree that you ‘must’ wear tops tucked in etc.

GreenJasper · 31/01/2025 13:03

Ok really appreciate the thoughts.

Reason for not tucking is when I do that, people immediately start commenting on my weight 😬

You're far too thin

You'll fall down a drain

Be careful

So I just avoid drawing attention to my body shape

Love her to BITS but she won't do a thing she's told 😬

You look great, but I do prefer the dark pair. You have a lovely figure.

Onlyvisiting · 31/01/2025 13:10

I like them, they aren't wide leg imo, just fairly normal straight leg.
I think the generation of skinny jeans has skewed perspective!
I am the age for skinny jeans and ankle socks but loath both of them so am thrilled to see nicer style jeans again, I've always stuck to straight leg ir boot cut anyway.
Does no one else remember the brief resurgence of flares etc (bizarrely for women only, not mens) around late 90's early 00's? I was a mid teen and not fashionable but they trickled down to me eventually, and when you say wide I was imagining the massive roadsweeper ones. Sometimes In bright colours, and in cords etc too.
And embroidered hems........

I do think skinny jeans will look really dated soon just because it is a certain age group mostly that cling to them, so soon skinny will be the 'old people ' clothing as the next generation comes along with their looser fitting clothes again!

EggandStress · 31/01/2025 13:12

I think you look great. Listen to your 6 year old.

pilates · 31/01/2025 13:17

Yes they look good on you - you have the right body shape for them

loropianalover · 31/01/2025 13:19

They look fine and your friends reaction is weird? ‘Hideous and doesn’t suit you’ ??

Some people can’t really pull off the straight/wide leg sometimes due to belly fat, would that be her? Her comment sounds like jealousy, because the jeans clearly fit you fine and are blatantly not hideous.

RaraRachael · 31/01/2025 13:29

They're not what I'd call wide leg

Hoppinggreen · 31/01/2025 13:30

I think they look great
I don't love the colour but that might just be my taste rather than anything else

Is it perhaps the same friend that makes these comments?

As she doesn't sound a very good friend to me.

I think you look great, and you should wear and style them however makes you feel comfortable.

You do not have to take all the advice and tuck in, not add the scarf etc. You do what makes you feel comfortable.

Fridgetapas · 31/01/2025 13:51

They look nice but you need chunkier trainers and layer your top half - denim shirt untucked and then a jumper, or a baggy white tee and a jumper over. And don’t wear that scarf with them…

notwavingbutsinking · 31/01/2025 13:51

I fucking love wide leg jeans, the wider the better haha, I'm a total convert. I think they look amazing in the first photo. I'm not sure about the shirt, but I think the length of it is great. I think a French tuck is your friend here. Personally I would swerve the belt - I think that look is quite dated, and will chop you in half.

I think the second (indigo?) pair also look like they fit really well but area bit less interesting. They suit you though so if you like them, go for it.

jenesaispaspourquoi · 31/01/2025 13:57

The second pair look great although top would look better tucked in. If you're skinny (as you say people say you are) you could get away with a chunky knit boxy cardigan which is cropped or sits on the waist. I can't get away with that as I am too curvy.

The first pair are a great shape but I agree with others the colour is drab. With those silver shoes I'd go with dark blue / indigo.
