Embracing wide leg jeans - do these suit me?

Wondered if these look ok?

I've been a lover of skinnies for years and haven't worn jeans for about the best part of a year because I'm not keen on the newer styles.

Anyhow, went for it and have had mixed opinions in real life ranging from...

"You look beautiful" (from 6 year old) to
"Hideous, not classic and don't suit you" (straight talking friend!

So keep and wear or the search goes on?

They are about the right width, not over wide as some are and look nice, also length looks good, not draggy and too big

mewkins · 31/01/2025 14:48

Hi OP,

I'd also suggest you go and try on some proper wide legs and you may be surprised. Or you might hate them. I think the ones you have are a sort of in between and I don't think it works with your body shape (which is great btw). I think you probably have quite a long body and the jeans start to low. I think a higher rise with a tucked in top (jumper or tshirt, maybe not a shirt) might look better.

I wouldn't seek any more feedback from this particular friend though!

bluebalou · 31/01/2025 15:12

I like them on you would also look good with a fitted top and jacket.

JackieGoodman · 31/01/2025 15:30

They look fine on you and I don't agree they look like straight jeans but personally, I'd be trying proper straight cuts with your figure, you look slim and leggy so unless you want the fashion statement of wide leg jeans (and you do probably have to go wider for that and embrace boxy fashion also)
The items you are pairing them with would suit a classic straight style way more IMO.

She's a cockapoo!

Love her to BITS but she won't do a thing she's told 😬

I’m circling around which breed to get (whilst saving up) and cockapoos are one of the ideas. Or a cocker.

Anyway, continue…. 😂

soupyspoon · 31/01/2025 18:18

Yes the indigo is much better, tuck the top in, Im a big fan of belts but thats to gibve me a waist, you're already slender so you may not need this. Ditch the plimsoll canvas things and either get some trendy chunky trainers or some loafers

LouisvilleSlugger · 31/01/2025 18:23

Dark pair much better. But too short.

You have a great figure and should show it off. A chunkier trainers does wonders with wide legs.

UpMyself · 31/01/2025 18:33

Return them. You have a nice figure and would look better in straight jeans.

UpMyself · 31/01/2025 19:36

The dark ones look great.

xyz111 · 31/01/2025 19:39

I like them just not the colour..

chargeitup · 31/01/2025 22:41

You look amazing and those jeans look perfect on you.
Your friend is mental. Not classic? You are literally rocking classic French girl chic

What's the bet your friend has never worn anything but skinnies 🙄

sweetpickle2 · 31/01/2025 22:47

LouisvilleSlugger · 31/01/2025 07:46

They’re fine. As others have said, they look straight rather than wide. They’d look good styled differently. Not keen on shirt, scarf or shoes.

Did you mean to be so rude? OP was asking for opinions on the jeans, not her entire wardrobe.

oprahwithlove · 31/01/2025 23:51

To me they are not wide but I really like both pairs on you. You have slim hips so you are lucky you can get away with anything.

NattyTurtle59 · 01/02/2025 01:16

WrinklesShminkles · 31/01/2025 11:09

You look great in both. Keep your own style - you asked for an opinion on the trousers, not your whole outfits.

I agree. What makes people think they have the right to give unasked for style advice? If someone told me I wasn't stylish I would wear the offending clothes every day to piss them off Wink

I'm going to disagree with others, I like the colour of the jeans, makes a change from blue, blue, blue, and black.

SunshinePlease24 · 01/02/2025 01:30

I can't wait for the wide leg trouser to be over. They're everywhere. As an apple shape who doesn't really have the option to pair them with a shorter or fitted top they look bloody awful on me. My legs, ankles, thighs, smallish bum are my best features so am I fuck covering then up in huge amount of material. That's what my top half is for 😉 Wear what suits your figure, not what the high street tells you I reckon.
However, you look fab OP. I think yours are more baggy than wide leg but you can carry them off.

dothedanceofjoy · 01/02/2025 01:41

I think both pairs look great, and I so wish I had your slim hips. I love this sort of casual look, but can never make it work with my pear shape.

wandawaves · 01/02/2025 02:09

I think they look lovely. It just feels weird as your so used to skinny jeans.
FWIW I never wear a tucked in or cropped shirt as I'm too round around the middle, and I think i look fine, so don't feel like you have to do the tucked in shirt.

Also YABU for posting a partial puppy dog shot. What a tease 😆

KittenPause · 01/02/2025 02:29

Neither pair is a cool wide leg unfortunately

The first pair are just a straight leg which look basic

The second pair also look basic and aren't proper wide leg

KittenPause · 01/02/2025 02:36

Where are you buying these jeans from ?

They look like they're from like the uncoolest shop ever trying to very badly copy a trend and failing

Wide jeans are cut in a certain way and these just aren't like that at all

KittenPause · 01/02/2025 02:47

They need to hang like this to look good

Those might look good on the very young, not so much on others! I see women looking gorgeous in wide leg jeans, but they look nothing like those photos.

KittenPause · 01/02/2025 05:59

@NattyTurtle59 might help if you add a photo then

KittenPause · 01/02/2025 06:14

My wide leg jeans are like the photo in the white T shirt and I'm in my 50's

I have boyfriend jeans too but we're talking about wide leg jeans which are like the photos I've posted

My boyfriend jeans look a bit like this photo only slightly wider on the leg but same at hip and ankle.

KittenPause · 01/02/2025 06:16

So basically both my jeans look like the 2 different photos of women in white T shirts

One is wide leg one is boyfriend style jean

WinterFoxes · 01/02/2025 06:29

SharpOpalNewt · 31/01/2025 07:25

I'm 49, 5'7" and size 12/14 and I look much better in wide leg trousers than carrot/tapered, trust me.

Me too. It makes me smile when people say wide legs only suit very skinny women. I actually think they work best on women with a bit of thigh, otherwise the fabric is flapping around too much. And they look way better on me than those awful parsnips did. Skinnies really do only suit skinny women.
