just wanted to try something a bit different.

Do you have any boots with a small heel? Might make all the difference

Ginkypig · 04/01/2025 20:47

The fist pic the shorts looked like they were drowning you but the boots are so big and baggy they look like welly boots. They don’t do your lovely legs justice. Personally unless you really love them my advice is to get them on vinted and replace them with a more fitted pair. If you love them though then ignore me. I’m all for someone wearing what they like and bugger what others think though!

iv gone back to look at the first pics and actually the shorts are not as bad on 2nd look but the boots are really not great

the dms photo is much better even though the shorts are the same so it doesn’t makes sense to me!

the pic where you have altered the shorts make them look much more streamlined.

any of the short boots are ok but I like the dm’s.

Oooh, I’m not sure. I think it all looks a bit school-uniformy, especially with navy tights. I’m a similar height to you and I’ve always felt I can’t do the shorts and tights thing. Too much leg dangling out somehow? Although I think a short skirt and black tights would look good, so maybe I’m just funny about shorts.

I'm a bit shorter but I agree. If the shorts were a bit longer (wide leg culottes) it would be better. As it is, it seems like there's a lot going on on the top half of your body and then a long expanse of leg.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/01/2025 23:01

Surely the expanse of lovely long legs is sort of the point? Culottes would be an entirely different vibe.

bunnybunnybunnybunny · 04/01/2025 23:12

The proportions are wrong. Knee length boots are pretty dreadful at the best of times, and only slightly better when worn with a midi length skirt or cropped wide leg trousers.

You either need to wear a much longer short/culottes with the boots with no tights showing, or else you want to wear a slightly shorter with either a Chelsea boot (which I'm not a fan of) or a flat pump, something like a ballet/gondola flat or velvet chinese slipper. If you want to wear that length short, they need to be more A-line, again with the footwear mentioned.

If you must wear a knee high boot, it needs to be slinkier/a more form fitting, finer leather. Your boots are too chunky.

Could they work more like this?

Gawd no

Ringmybeeelllll · 04/01/2025 23:25

Those shorts do nothing for you, they're too wide for how slim your legs are.

SheridansPortSalut · 04/01/2025 23:35

I think that to make the shorts work you'd need much darker tights and you'd need to try a variety of shoes and boots (loafers, flat mary janes, kitten heel ankle boots). It all sounds like a lot of effort and expense.

localnotail · 04/01/2025 23:36

It somehow has the childish vibe, does not look like something an adult woman would wear.

Edited: I had a think about it and I think you should not dress in shorts with tights if you are over 16. It looks weird.

I disagree, I think to make them work she needs a really ridiculous colour pair of tights and navy shoes, think Mrs Brown from the Paddington 1 film. She will have to go just as eccentric on the top half too though.

WingBingo · 04/01/2025 23:57

Not sure I can do eccentric.

I do get the school girl vibe though, definitely not with the cardigan.

One time that I really can’t wear that at my age (nearly 50).

Or maybe any age 😀

I also had a think about it and decided that this is bollocks.

WingBingo · 05/01/2025 00:00

Also, my knee to thigh ratio is stupidly long. I’m all legs, I need a 36” leg for trousers.

Agree. The 2nd and 3rd boots look good. If you want tall boots I would get some which are more fitted. I am nearly 50 and I would wear the shorts with black tights and fitted long boots.

Great, here's your medal 🏅

This is style and beauty not aibu. Crikey!
Opinions are just options not facts.

DownThePubWithStevieNicks · 05/01/2025 00:39

Miles better with the DMs.

I wouldn’t wear these shorts but you really pull them off! Bit Royal Wedding page boy with the long boots though.

Great, here's your medal 🏅

Are you sure I’m allowed to wear it, being aged over 16?

NoCarbsForMe · 05/01/2025 09:45

Looks a bit panto.

itsgettingweird · 05/01/2025 09:48

Yea the shorts don't do anything but in the picture where they look more like a skirt you look better.

You have a great figure and fab legs - a skirt, matching tights and well fitted knee length boots would like great on you.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/01/2025 09:55

The more I think about this, the more I actually like the shorts. Shorts / black tights / DMs / fitted, tucked in top or body / slouchy cardigan or blazer. I think it would look great on you.

amoreoamicizia · 05/01/2025 10:01

Everyone's criticising the shape of the knee-length boot but that's been a fashionable style for the past year or two.

Jolietta · 05/01/2025 10:03

The shorts are completely unflattering on your lovely figure.

I'm getting Don Estelle vibes.

Jolietta · 05/01/2025 10:04

In case you don't know who Don Estelle is

Just because they are 'fashionable' doesn't mean they suit everyone.
The op has amazing legs, the boots do look very baggy.
