what do you think of these together?

In my minds eye it looked cool but I’m not convinced.

just wanted to try something a bit different.

Lace ups look best, longer boots are too wide around calf but might work if fitted better.

Pinkissmart · 05/01/2025 10:12

I think shorts + wider belt + crisp long sleeved button up top with the sleeves rolled up.

I don’t think any of the boots work- I’d go with a chunky shoe though.

Peaceandquietandacuppa · 05/01/2025 10:20

It’s the tights. Shorts will be fine in Summer with pumps. Or could try with some fashionable tights (ie not opaque) perhaps?

Peaceandquietandacuppa · 05/01/2025 10:21

Brogues may work too

It somehow has the childish vibe, does not look like something an adult woman would wear.

Edited: I had a think about it and I think you should not dress in shorts with tights if you are over 16. It looks weird.

Edited

Yes! This is what I was aiming at. Wearing with black or navy opaques is giving off a schoolkid vibe. This

Everyone's criticising the shape of the knee-length boot but that's been a fashionable style for the past year or two.

I tried them on in John Lewis and they looked great (or so I thought)

Couldn't stop thinking about them so I ordered on line. I was very excited about these, I love knee high boots.

now they are here, they are a bit whellie-esk. This makes me sad.

I do wear a lot of skirts and boots. Skirts really suit me, and being in Yorkshire, I appreciate the warmth of the boots.

I’ll try tan boots later but I think the shorts are just too big.

I wear what I like. I doubt that I could give a schoolkid vibe in opaques.

WingBingo · 05/01/2025 10:29

can anyone recommend different tights to opaques?

I’m not a fan of 10/15 denier tights.

Ribbed woolly-looking ones, patterned e.g. lacey.

I like it.

Try 30 denier. Not sheer, but not heavy. I think patterned or lacy would be too busy with the shorts.

Amianidiott · 05/01/2025 10:41

I would style them like a short, flared skirt, as that’s the overall silhouette - maybe with chunky loafers or brogues. I think it’ll be a nice play on the tailoring as well. My favourite of the combinations you posted was with the tall boots. Overall, I really like them - they look very nice on you and I’d think you were a style risk taker if I saw you with them on.

given that you’d like to wear them with dark tights, I think it would look overall sleeker if you wore a darker cardigan - doesn’t have to be black (burgundy/ navy/ dark green or charcoal) but I think the grey is a touch too light.

piscofrisco · 05/01/2025 10:42

The shorts need to be much shorter!

Too school uniform. You need a brighter top.

abricotine · 05/01/2025 11:02

I like the shorts and DMs.
the knee high boots are just big and flappy and I dislike them, fashionable or no.
perhaps the shorts are a little wide, but that’s the style and you can more than carry them off IMO.

midlifeattheoasis · 05/01/2025 11:08

Definitely the boots/shorts in your first photo. The shorts would also look good with a pair of chunky loafers

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 05/01/2025 11:17

@WingBingo think the cullottes would be better in a size down. they are sitting below your waist. I like cullottes always. the long boots are actually just too wide for your leg and do nothing for you.

WingBingo · 05/01/2025 11:28

Once the heavy snow has gone I’m going to go get them in a size down.

thank you for your recommendations!

I love the shorts! But then I like quirky, slightly unusual clothing. I think they look best with the DMs, the ankle boots are ok too. I would wear them with a fitted top as they are quite wide.

sonjadog · 05/01/2025 11:43

@WingBingo Where did you buy them?

changecandles · 04/01/2025 15:21

I'm be done my best to shorten and depoof the shorts without changing your body.

Can you have the shorts altered

They.look great like this! I love the shorts and boots look but agree with others that the actual shorts are a bit too voluminous.

The shorts need to be much shorter!

I agree with this. At the moment they are more like culottes than shorts and the length doesn't balance well with the boots.
