Is there something that just lifts the appearance of your skin a little

I usually wear makeup at home and work (Trinny London or Laura Geller Baked) but recently I've been using a rose oil and I've not really felt like I wanted to apply makeup, as my skin looks pretty nice without, miraculously. A bit of eyeliner or tinted lip sometimes. And also I worry that my makeup looks a bit overdone or badly done sometimes because I throw it on and have bad eyesight! However, when I am back at work, by the end of a work day I will no doubt look pale, puffy and blotchy, not helped by currently growing out my grey hair. Although I don't much care about it, I need to look neat and professional for work and too haggard Is unhelpful. Is there something that I could just apply mid afternoon for a bit of glow and moisturisation? I guess I could use the Trinny bff primer but it doesn't do much for me. The oil doesn't look good instantly, unfortunately, but does when used daily. Would love some ideas to try.

I hate wearing foundation and even tinyed moisturiser looks heavy on me.

I ca thoroughly recommend Clarins Instant Smooth Prfecting Touc

Its a smootjing 'balm' with a faint fleshy / pinky tone that just lifts your own skin.

Sounds weird but its awesome for a natural look.

Watching! I have been wearing foundation daily for years to hide redness, but lately my skin seems a little better and I like the idea of swapping something light for the foundation. Thank you for all the recommendations

@GreyAreas you don't say how old you are but as you mention grey hair I'm guessing you're a fellow mature -ish woman.

Lots of great products have been mentioned here but can I also suggest following a few older make up and skincare enthusiasts on whatever platform you prefer ( I like youtube personally). It can be really helpful to see tutorials, wear tests, reviews and get ideas from women of a similar age.

I love Trinny London BFF during the day for light skin glow as it contains SPF which is so important for long term skin health and UV protection, especially if you use retinols/retinoids for increased cell turnover (the latter are much stronger and need prescribing - I go to Monderma for mine). For a gorgeous scent and immediate moisturisation and glow for mature/normal to dry skin, I recommend Clarins Treatment Oil. I use the orchid version but there are others. A little goes a long way - just a few drops warmed between fingers and pressed into cleansed skin; on its own if you don’t plan to go out, or before applying SPF.

Now I think of it, I'm not sure if mine is CC or BB 🤔 Anyway, good products in general, very subtle which can be a pro or a con depending on what you want/your skin.

I have both, the cc is lighter (and better, in my opinion)

Aldi rose oil was AMAZING. I used to buy it 10 bottles at a time. £4! Haven't been able to get it for ages though

Not to hijack but I have just buzz cut my dyed plum hair for charity. It is now pure white! I'm.going to have to do something make up wise or scare people to death as a living corpse! I'm 60. Any recommendations would be good. Green eyes.

PeachyKeane · 01/01/2025 19:40

Eborian cc cream here as well. I'm a convert.

minipie · 01/01/2025 19:53

Can anyone explain the difference between a skin tint and a BB cream/tinted moisturiser?

When my hair is tied back I definitely benefit from a stronger colour of lipstick and an eyeliner, plus some brow pencil

I'm intrigued by talk of this rose oil.

Basically very similar . As is foundation as it comes in shades and varying consistency and coverage.

I'm mid 40s, only just started getting grey hair but found that dying my eyebrows makes an enormous difference. I just use a cheap kit off amazon (my mum goes to a beautician and hers always look terrifying for a couple of days after, then settle).

Make up wise I find brow pencil, mascara and blush lift me enormously. I wear tinted balms on my lips like the burts bees ones. Clarins black honey a classic for a reason!

Moveoverdarlin · 01/01/2025 20:35

I’m not sure it makes my skin look better, but oh my god, it feels better when I put it on - Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream.

NewMe2024 · 01/01/2025 20:37

Eborian CC is my go-to for a non-makeup look. The Saie glow tint is amazing under any base for a very subtle all over glow.

This is worthy of its own thread. I would recommend a look at Lisa Eldridge’s videos as a starting point. She has done looks on some gorgeous white-haired models.

I really like L’Oréal revitalift laser moisturiser, and MAC serumiser over the top. No need for foundation. Put a dab of blusher higher up. Like much higher up than where you’d think, almost up by your eye. Instant facelift

Barney16 · 01/01/2025 20:55

Old school. Clarins beauty flash balm. It's great.

Have your brows and lashes professionally shaped / tinted, tinted moisturiser, Giorgio Armani do some lovely liquid blushes, warm gold/brown/plum shadows / eyeliner, mascara, slick of a lipstick that suits you, maybe a deep pink (like Charlotte Tilbury Velvet Underground) 🤔

I recently started doing that because my new glasses are bigger. Good to know I'm giving myself a face lift!

noobiedoobie · 01/01/2025 21:55

Biossance does a rose oil. There is also Rosehip oil for drier skin e.g. The Ordinary or Evolve both do them. I put it on before moisturiser at night.

Sladequeen · 01/01/2025 22:00

Following this. I have very dry skin and things settle in my folds , any recommendations on here made by people with very dry skin ?
I have no glow in winter at all and don’t like the look or feel of traditional foundations, plus am generally very low maintenance, just really feeling and looking my age after fifteen years of poor mental and physical health and strong medication

Summerhillsquare · 01/01/2025 22:08

Seconded!

Resitinas · 01/01/2025 22:16

IT CC cream is excellent

SereneCapybara · 01/01/2025 22:19

Origins Plantscription youth serum. I put it on over makeup sometimes as it just makes the skin dewy but not tacky. It's lovely stuff but ££. I'd love to find a supermarket equal.
