@faustina @Snowyowl78 I'm looking for somewhere in Norwich - unfortunately Astrid and Miyu don't have a retail outlet there.
I've got a hairdresser's appointment on the 30th so I'd be hoping to have it done then.

Having said there was nothing for me in the newly added things….Has anyone tried the cosmic dot dress? What’s sizing like? I love it, but cannot tell how it would look on a menopausal stomach and boobs. I feel like the word column in the name is putting me off trying it.

Ive ordered this dress. No idea how it will look on my menopausal shape either! Ive ordered my size too. If you look at the dress they had a link to the video on it from one of their lives. I'm not actually sure I like it on the model! I think it looks a bit shapeless on her tbh. I do like a black dress though but am unsure on the long sleeves which I am not good with.

neveradullmoment99 · 02/01/2025 18:14

The link to the live is at the bottom of the model shot.

neveradullmoment99 · 02/01/2025 18:15

Actually not the model but the cut out.

flightypiece · 02/01/2025 18:15

Faustina, I got the cotton linen twill shirt in S for £95 right at the beginning of the sale and think I will be keeping it (sorry!). It measures 51cm/20in underarm seam to underarm seam if that helps.
I have been lurking on these Toastie threads and have found all the comments and tips very helpful, though also enabling!

Snowyowl78 · 02/01/2025 18:17

@Theteapotsbrokenspout id probably just look for some good and plentiful reviews on Google. Make sure they use a needle and not a gun.

ScottishMouse · 02/01/2025 18:31

Thanks @neveradullmoment99 , I never thought to look at the lives, I kind of gave up watching them some months back as I just found them irritating.
I think it looks better on the model on the live than on the model in the photos. I might give it a go, I would like to have a dress that can be worn to all the events I never go to!

IlovePond · 02/01/2025 17:47

Lovely bag and trousers @Netcam - your whole outfit looks lovely!

Thanks, this rather basic look is much more the real me than the dresses I see online and imagine myself looking exciting in, but in reality end up looking a bit ridiculous on me.

It's more the kind of thing I wear in my real life as well. I'm really not a dress up to go out kind of person, I don't wear make up, I would never consider shoes with heels and I don't even go to the hairdresser, DH cuts my hair.

I realised buying clothes for an imaginary life of afternoon tea at a posh hotel is ridiculous when really I'll be going for a walk in the woods or planting vegetables in the garden.

mizu · 02/01/2025 18:42

I tried that cosmic dot dress on in the last sample sale at SM but it was a sleeveless one. Very lovely on, but didn't buy and wish I had!

Primrosespaw · 02/01/2025 18:44

@MsDastardley I am very curious about the space dyed tank. I have knitted blankets and scarves using manos franca wool and my far better knitter of a mother is knitting me a jacket using manos wool in Camelot as their stuff is so very expensive. I am tempted by the tank. This was meant to be a low buy year and i have cracked already by buying the silk shirt snd a finisterre puffer!

I tried the tank a few months ago, but returned if as thought maybe a bit expensive and wasn’t sure about the size. It is lovely, and the colours were very vibrant. I’ve ordered two sizes to try.

I’ve got my eye on a couple of things from Brora, then after that I’m done 🤣🤣

Netcam · 02/01/2025 19:07

@MsDastardley, the Brora cord dress did not work for me at all. The 8 squashed my boobs and I could have lived with a slightly less fitted waist on the 10. However, the length was terrible on my 5'3 height and the combination of A line and just below knee length did not get me the look I wanted at all. Picture is the 10 for anyone who wants a laugh!

Has anyone got the over the knee socks? Both colours look gorgeous.

mizu · 02/01/2025 19:09

@Netcam that is exactly the length that is unflattering on me and I'm 5' 7"!

Oh that’s a shame. It looks better on you than it did on me! I think there will be plenty of these in clearance. I’ve got a linen version, and that’s really nice. The cord one looks like a plain Irish dance dress.

mizu · 02/01/2025 19:24

Or this? I'm dithering over socks and this scarf, neither of which I really need but.....

faustina · 02/01/2025 19:30

@flightypiece - thanks very much! I think I will order if it comes back into stock. In the meantime, I've just ordered the garment dyed cotton linen canvas jacket in blue, and the indigo cotton twill barrel legged trousers as they've come back into stock. I think apart from that I'm ok. Very poor jumper selection this time!

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 02/01/2025 19:45

Thanks @faustina

I'm sure there will. Incredible how they look fantastic on the models but the reality on our regular bodies is quite different.

VivienneDelacroix · 02/01/2025 19:58

@stravaig I've not succumbed to Johnston's. I wish I could afford to, even at sale prices!

I'm also on a no-spend target now like @PrincessofWells so I'm happy that there was nothing I had my eye on added to the sale. My second sale order has now been dispatched - a pair of the cotton/wool herringbone pull-on trousers.
I really want the Cotton Linen Wide Leg Trousers in slate, but they are sitting at full-price still.

@faustina I've had piercings done at Maria Tash at Liberty and I've been really happy with them - I guess they have a lot of staff and probably a high turnover too, so it probably depends who you get. My favourite place is a Brighton studio though (Guru Piercing) - sorry @Theteapotsbrokenspout that's no help to you!

MsDastardley · 02/01/2025 20:02

@Netcam somebody would tell you if you had bulldog clip pulling the back of your dress in in real life! They probably do all sorts of little nips and tucks. I think this dress was particularly bad for me in real life. I definitely haven’t got a model body, but I do find some things things that look better on an average person. Well that’s what I tell myself…

IlovePond · 02/01/2025 20:20

All this talk of piercings is making me remember when I got mine done. There was a girl with a stall set up on the prom: Just her and a piercing gun in the middle of the pavement 🙀. I was 16 and on my way home from a Saturday job.

It cost £5 and, I have to say, against all odds she did a good job - the holes were level and no infection followed.

I also remember my DM going berserk when I got home as she had been brought up to believe pierced ears were ‘common’ - but the deed was done and I convinced her something terrible would happen if the temporary studs were removed. (Tbf, I believed that myself.)

I felt very daring and grown up.

There was also a fashion then to have two in one ear and lots of my friends ended up with off-centre piercings on one side due to having the two done at once!

Of course, there was also the girl who got her mate to do it with a safety pin in the school toilets. She ended up covered in blood and with only one ear done due to the pain. We could hear the screaming down the corridor. 🙀

My dd had a terrible piercing experience at a tattoo & piercing place that came highly recommended. It was done with a needle. One ear was fine, the other one was off centre and didn’t go through straight but at an angle so came out at the back right at the bottom of her earlobe. As a result it took a lot of fiddling to ever get an earring in or out and it was painful to do so, so she let them close up.
She was 10 and it is only now, age 15 that she wants to try and get them redone. I’m not sure how easy this will be, so don’t know where to take her.
I have four ear piercings and a nose too, all done with a gun in a Claire’s type of place and they never caused me any trouble at all. So 🤷‍♀️

neveradullmoment99 · 02/01/2025 21:18

I got my nose pierced just about 6 months ago [ At the ripe old age of 57]. Was on holiday in Cornwall and it was a great place. My dd got her ears pierced for the second time [ she had them done when she was about 7 but they got infected] and it was done by a reputable piercer using a needle. One had healed and the other keeps getting infected. Just never healing. Nothing seems to be stopping it and she is gutted. Any advice? Anyway would love to get another piercing on my ear too but felt that coping with my nose piercing is enough although it has healed well.
