What do you think of this ring? We have been looking for the perfect engagement ring and I don’t want him to spend a lot, 2k max, and we don’t want lab grown gems. I just can’t justify spending

It's a bit like having frozen turkey. Why when there are nice fresh ones around? Why a lab grown diamond when the whole point of owning a beautiful diamond is that it is rare. Labour grown ones are grown by the hundred and if I know it's easily obtainable and cheaper I don't want it.

The thing is though if someone has a budget of 2000 then they are not going to get a decent sized solitaire for that price. Rings like this can use tiny little diamond chips hence the price.,

Try an independent jeweller or a designer, I worked with one who made me a bespoke ring (I chose the diamonds) for around your budget. Because it's bespoke you can change the cost by metal choice, quality of diamonds, mixing in other stones and if you have any jewellery that you no longer want they can use stones or metal from them! He's now making a bespoke set for my dsd from a variety of jewellery she's inherited that's tatty and old fashioned l

I love it , but not for me !
Second hand ring ... yuk, also not for me ,someone selling an engagement ring either coz their marriage has broken down or they're skint, I'd hate the negative energy I'd attach to that ring . Rather have smaller stone brand new , never been on anyone fingers than mine Thankyou very much

But the conditions people work under to mine diamonds are horrific how do you happily wear it knowing this?

I just do. A lot of rings are pre-owned although my engagement, and eternity rings are mined diamonds. I don't really think about the people mine them. If they didn't mine previous stones they'd have no income. What would you think about that if no one bought mined stones anymore and people lost their jobs? If there are others jobs in these countries no one for es people to mine.

But diamonds aren't actually rare. That was just the lie we were spun so dealers could charge more. Tanzanite is 1000 times rarer but cheaper than diamonds.

Larger diamonds are relatively rare. I'm well aware tanzanite is far rarer than diamonds I have some of that too, but it's not as nice as a diamond.

Congratulations!

For what it’s worth, I don’t wear a wedding ring with my engagement ring as it doesn’t look right. The ring is a family heirloom and it wouldn’t have crossed my mind not to have it just because a wedding ring wouldn’t fit with it.

Same here, I wear a wedding ring on my other hand because I couldn't get anything to work with the engagement ring.

If you would prefer a classic solitaire or a gemstone as centre, I use a great jeweller in Hong Kong who has saved me money - Anastasia. Tell her your budget and send pics of what you like and she can advise you where you can maximise your budget to get a larger diamond, she's a Brit living out there. And she uses WhatsApp for quotes and progress etc.
