What do you think of this ring? We have been looking for the perfect engagement ring and I don’t want him to spend a lot, 2k max, and we don’t want lab grown gems. I just can’t justify spending

No one else other than your DH will give it a second thought

Dollybantree · 16/12/2024 01:43

It looks very blingy and like something an insta-hun with fake talons would wear. I’m thinking Teresa Giudice from the real housewives of New Jersey!

Sorry, but it isn’t classy at all however you may not be looking for classy and that’s ok. If you love it you should get it but the fact you’re asking on here suggests you’re not sure.

DramaAlpaca · 16/12/2024 02:09

It's way too fussy for me, and I prefer coloured stones (mine is ruby and diamond) but it's up to you. If you love it, go for it.

mrspresents · 16/12/2024 02:28

It's what you like that matters. Personally I think it looks like a cheap fake. I prefer solitaires in a platinum band.

Hazeltwig · 16/12/2024 02:32

Practically speaking I agree with pp who said it will get dirt stuck in it.
But asking about the style seems a bit pointless as it's such a personal thing. For instance I prefer gypsy rings 😁

namestevalian · 16/12/2024 09:15

That's awful sorry ( I know I'm mean )

There is no good reason to not get a lab grown ,

Look at what you can get on London Diamonds for 2k ....

They have a whole highlight of rings under £3k

What you are looking at is hugely marked up I am afraid as those melee diamonds are very cheap to buy in bulk in a bag .

DotComMillionaire · 16/12/2024 09:22

The perfect engagement ring is something only you can define for yourself. Its not for me but if you like it, buy it!

UpToonGirl · 16/12/2024 09:22

Hayley1256 · 16/12/2024 00:45

It is really nice but I'm not sure how practical it will be due to the gaps. I imagine soap, creams, make up, food etc will all get stuck in there

I had the same thoughts about the gaps.

At the end of the day though, do you like it?

LoobyDoop2 · 16/12/2024 09:31

It’s not my style, I have a very simple solitaire. And even that is a pita for catching on things.

Rowen32 · 16/12/2024 09:33

The main diamond isn't actually that nice but you don't notice straight away because of all the others. I don't like the gaps and would get a nicer main diamond and have everything else simpler..

YaWeeFurryBastard · 16/12/2024 09:37

Dearover · 16/12/2024 00:21

How would that fit with a wedding ring? It looks very...sparkly.

Edited

Unfortunately that style actually isn’t very sparkly as the multiple small diamonds get dirt stuck in them very easily and therefore almost always look dull. The cut of the middle stone isn’t designed for sparkle either so aside from under the special lights in the shop, it won’t have the sparkle factor in real life.

It’s your ring OP but it’s not to my taste as I think halo settings are very 2010s and already quite dated.

user2848502016 · 16/12/2024 09:40

It's not my personal taste, but yes it's a beautiful ring

Cardboardeaux · 16/12/2024 09:40

It's very pretty but would need frequent cleaning as you would quickly end up with soap/hand cream etc stuck in the gaps between the stones

MaryJosephandCherylnotJesus · 16/12/2024 09:43

Gently, why does it matter what anyone else things? I dislike most engagement rings but that doesn't matter, because I'm not wearing them and I LOVE mine, and don't care what anyone else thinks about it.

housemaus · 16/12/2024 09:44

Personally I don't like all the gaps in it, but it's not me that's wearing it - do you like it? If so and it's in budget then go for it! It doesn't really matter whether anyone else likes your ring or even if everyone else in the world hated it, as long as you like it.

Foreverhope1 · 16/12/2024 09:45

Beautiful ring but can't see how a wedding band would work with it.

Agree with others that it will get dirty very quickly, hence the shine would diminish. Think the emerald cut in the middle will not shine as much as you'd like.

Think you need to continue looking.

DecayingRelic · 16/12/2024 09:46

It looks very scratchy and uncomfortable to me

TizerorFizz · 16/12/2024 09:50

@Louise123uk I do think the ring won’t sit well with a wedding ring. It looks a little bit complex and trying too hard for my taste. Plus I always buy second hand. It’s lovely to browse older rings.

The pp who has an insurance valuation of £5000 for a 2ct diamond - that’s way too low for a solitaire. Assuming it’s a decent colour and cut with no obvious inclusions.

Mylittlebobble · 16/12/2024 09:53

If I had my time again to pick an engagement ring etc, I'd look at how the rings fit together on my fingers and possibly look for a set. I've got a shaped engagement ring which made it tricky to get a wedding ring. Getting one shaped to match is expensive so I got one 'off the peg' instead which is OK. I haven't been able to get an eternity ring for that reason. In your situation, I'd think about how I'd like the overall set of rings to look like and go from there. Congratulations!

Conniebygaslight · 16/12/2024 09:56

What does it matter if other people like it...? It's you who matters surely.

Maddy70 · 16/12/2024 10:01

I love it. But always try any ring next to a wedding ring to see how it sits

mondaytosunday · 16/12/2024 10:05

Not my style but not sure how asking a few thousand randoms with completely differing tastes is going to help here. If you love it then why not?

Louise123uk · 16/12/2024 10:05

I do still like it, and I did get the feeling but I’m just indecisive with virtually everything and like opinions. I always worry about making the wrong choice. Thanks for the comments 😊

We also tried on this one which I like but Ive been told could look more like a dress ring and is £600 more expensive

Not keen on it. But whether you like it is the key thing here.

My reasons: too flashy, looks like it would catch on everything, possibly scratchy with all those diamond chips on the band, don't like the thought of muck catching in those settings.

But it's down to personal taste - I like an understated look rather than blingy. My engagement ring is vintage, you get more for your money second hand.
