* Please avoid dropping hints or spoilers about future contents if you have opened the calendar in advance. * (Edited at request of the OP by MNHQ)

It is one sleep away! We’ve all been very patient, since Liberty London revealed their advent calendar in June this year.

Reveals from 7am GMT each morning please. This is to harmonise discussion/shift work/different time zones.

Interestingly this perfume just gets better and better on me as time goes on. It’s many hours later now and is a soft warm slightly powdery scent on my skin. I really love it!! Well done Liberty for a super strong start 😊

jay55 · 01/12/2024 17:45

Nice to have a decent sized piece to start, and it does smell lovely.

Yep! Peony Couture and Boemia samples have become firm favourites (I think I’m on my fourth full size boemia).

I had a leaky bottle of shampoo in the box with Boemia, which had covered everything, so they sent me a replacement box. The first Boemia was fine once I'd removed the soggy box, so I was delighted to have an extra! Expecting some more fragrant delights in the AC.

I think for me these advent calendars - not just the Liberty one - aren't about the 'stuff' so much. There will be products I like, products I don't like and the odd product that I love. Nothing in a calendar is a necessity so it's all just a lovely indulgence really. And part of that is the excitement of opening it in the morning. I try not to read anything in advance and I love waking up knowing that I have that day's drawer to open. So I don't really care if you can buy the contents cheaper online. Or even if there are things I don't like. It may be a nauseating phrase but it's that little spark of joy that I get on a December morning that's worth it to me.

This is exactly how I feel. My Mum buys me the advent calendar every year, it brings me so much joy all through December. DD(10) opens the drawer for me in the morning when I'm sat in bed with my tea, and we look at it together, and then when it's all over she gets the box as a sort of playhouse for her mini toys (I'll be so sad when she doesn't do this anymore, which can't be that far away!)

countdowntonap · 01/12/2024 18:41

Good news is my husband likes today’s scent! So he’s wearing it tonight and feeling very swanky as he usually wears a £50 aftershave!

It’s made me have a root through my Beauty Box/Calendar hoard and I’ve put on Ghost of Tom.

My all time favourite scent from a Liberty box was VILHELM PARFUMERIE
Basilico & Fellini Eau de Parfum

Perfume sounds fab! If anyone would like to send me theirs (for £6 haha) I can swap it for the vile bum bum spray in my SpaceNK calendar today

LittleBearPad · 01/12/2024 20:01

DH has benefitted from today’s drawer but I may try it again given the comments above about how the scent develops!

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 01/12/2024 20:10

Oh dear I caved in & let DD wear Ianthe Oud today.
Now she's asked for Ianthe Oud as a Christmas present!

I'm afraid I've created a perfume monster as it all started a few years back when I gave her my Glamour Beauty Club free sample of Angel Nova & let her try the perfumes in one of my free John Lewis beauty boxes which contained a Baccarat Rouge sample, & small sizes of Ego Stratis & Hisbiscus Mahajad & she liked them all.....

Wherethewildthingsfart · 01/12/2024 20:32

It smells quite similar to Tom Ford ombré leather (although I’m poorly and possibly not smelling properly).

giadaros · 01/12/2024 20:56

I'm in NZ so always have to wait for everyone in the UK to catch up but I love reading these threads every year.
I usually love the perfumes but for some reason, this one smelt overwhelmingly like hospitals to me! It died down after a while and became softer but all I could think of when I sprayed it was the smell of hospital.

Blimey. NZ hospitals must smell waaaaay better than UK ones!

Lemonademoney · 01/12/2024 21:28

Placemarking as this is my very first
Liberty calendar and oh it’s so pretty! I was in two minds about this fragrance initially but after a couple of hours it settled on me and became mellower so I’m happy with day one.

I think he must have listened to me chatting about the advent threads in September cos that's when he ordered it and hid it! 🥰

Biscuitburglar · 01/12/2024 21:50

I really like the perfume. @giadaros I know what you mean about hospitals! When I first sprayed it there was a medicinal whiff of antiseptic, but now that it has settled it’s quite deliciously intriguing. I love the advents for this kind of surprise: getting something I love that I would never in a million years have considered buying.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 01/12/2024 22:41

@Biscuitburglar @giadaros

I know what you mean about the slightly antiseptic/hospital smell.
It's probably the myrrh & frankincense in it which is used in incense & some medicines.
Also frankincense has a bit of a musty pine smell
Agarwood which smells a bit manure & throw in the guiac & cedarwood with it & there you have it faint eau de hospital.

I also get a hint of old primary school well my old primary school which I loved.

Smell conjures up all sorts of memories.

countdowntonap · 01/12/2024 22:44

Yes @giadaros my husband asked if I’d been using TCP!

imp2007 · 02/12/2024 06:43

Woke up early this morning and couldn't resist a peek!!! Super happy with today's item!!! Just what I need right now and love the brand. Have dutifully replaced in the drawer and will officially open when the DC wake up with their calendars. I'm going to give the perfume a proper test today and wear it to work. It really is the most wonderful time of the year!!!

Lemonademoney · 02/12/2024 06:49

Absolute winner for me today 😍

secretbumworms · 02/12/2024 06:53

Really happy with todays!

countdowntonap · 02/12/2024 06:53

Ooo this morning’s is perfect for me and absolutely the reason why I love having the Liberty advent calendar!

PacificState · 02/12/2024 06:57

About to use today’s, very pleased with it - I needed one of these

I’m another one for whom the perfume yesterday smelled of hospital ward. If anyone wants it, DM me your address! I feel bad throwing these big testers in the bin.

I had wondered about food banks, but then worried it might be a bit Lady Muck among the pasta and teabags. Also wondered whether they get fished out as being non-standard and possibly tampered with? But if it’s a thing people do I’d chuck them in very happily.
