What kind of person would wear these?

Or what would you think if you saw someone wearing these for work/everyday? Eg with jeans or a mini and black opaques.
Always drawn to t bars but not sure if people will think it looks a bit school-ly or silly for a grown woman! Plus fancy a departure from my usual loafers!

Bi-curious?

30 Rock episode …

alienpilotingaboeing · 30/11/2024 12:39

Describing something as looking non-binary is just the modern equivalent of describing something as being a bit 'I'm mad, me'. Hardly staggeringly offensive.

It's when you couple 'nonbinary librarian' with the word 'hideous' that it becomes offensive.

Given that, you know, nonbinary librarians do exist, and are no more hideous than any other category of human being.

'Non-binary librarian' was not coupled with the word 'hideous' to make 'hideous non-binary librarian'. Hideous referred to the shoes.

cassandre · 30/11/2024 13:08

The original post read, Hideous. V non-binary librarian vibes.

Ergo, nonbinary librarian vibes = hideous.

If someone said, Hideous. V gay librarian vibes, would you find that offensive, I wonder?

Anyway if you don't see a problem, I'm unlikely to convince you. Personally I will always have the backs of nonbinary librarians. Along with childless cat ladies and other groups of that ilk.

Well, given that 'gay' actually has a meaning, and 'non-binary' doesn't have one much beyond 'someone who wears shoes that look a bit like this', I'd say they were two different sentences.

Thanks @alienpilotingaboeing for proving my point about prejudice. 🙄

Sorry OP to have contributed to the derailing of your thread, I will confine myself to shoe-related comments henceforth 😀

I have some flat black t bar Mary Jane’s and am in my 40s. I have ankle problems so wear either these, loafers or trainers pretty much.

It's right to call out prejudice - and imo the 'non-binary librarian' comment was prejudiced, hence me calling it out and applauding others who do so.

I'm sure the OP will be happy for her/his/their thread to be derailed to address this issue. I know I would be.

I think you're wrong.

They do look like children's school shoes but I like them. Maybe some bright coloured tights and a cord mini skirt would look nice. Top depends on skirt style.

Oh don’t be ridiculous. One is either a man or a woman. There is nothing else.

Happy to be ridiculous rather than prejudiced, but you do you.

Prejudiced? I’d say logical. But I’ve long since learned that you can’t argue with stupid when it comes to this gender nonsense. 👋

Someone with no taste, style or shame whatsoever

Youngmuffin · 22/11/2025 19:55

I wear a pair a of sandals like these love them

GumFossil · 22/11/2025 19:58

I imagine someone that dresses like Su Pollard would wear them.

Youngmuffin · 22/11/2025 23:45

I went to school in t bar sandals, now have collected a few pairs and wear all as just so comfy

Divided then, though the school shoe thing is clear. I don't want to look like I'm dressing up as a child, though my style is definitely not sharp fashion. I wouldnt say i am full academia but closer to that than high fashion. You wouldn't catch me in stilettos, just not me. I'm a gazelles and and jeans kind of person. An indie kid on the inside.

Maybe I would always have that thought at the back of my mind and never feel quite 'right' in them.
They are joanie by the way. Lovely leather and seem very comfortable.

That's uncanny - the first thing that came to mind when I saw the shoes was that I would have that person pegged as a pre-Britpop indie kid!

I don't know - plaque is no picnic either...

ticktickboomm · 23/11/2025 04:08

56 year old geography teachers. Along with a sweaty Popsy dress.

Violetparis · 23/11/2025 05:39

Someone who is middle class and votes Lib Dem or Green.

CandleStub · 23/11/2025 08:15

I can imagine these shoes with thick socks and some sort of directional fashion, maybe Scandi or Japanese.
