What kind of person would wear these?

Or what would you think if you saw someone wearing these for work/everyday? Eg with jeans or a mini and black opaques.
Always drawn to t bars but not sure if people will think it looks a bit school-ly or silly for a grown woman! Plus fancy a departure from my usual loafers!

Someone with baggy dungarees on or a large flowing linen type dress often accompanied by a chunky necklace and a short spiky haircut.

TeaNights · 29/11/2024 10:26

I like them especially the red ones. I think unless you pair them up with clothes that look like a school uniform people wouldn't make the association. Well, j wouldn't but I am fashionably challenged. Actually, I really, really love the red ones.

Justkoko · 29/11/2024 13:40

This has been an interesting thread! I love them all, I can't help thinking I'll always have that primary school shoe thing at the back of my mind though, even though they seem to be very comfortable. In some ways I don't care at all what others think, but also don't really want to be perceived as wearing children's shoes. Maybe I like them so much because they have that reminiscent feel.

Ps, I don't think you could wear the oxblood with black opaque tights, what do you think? They look a bit too far towards brown.

If you turned up to your first day in an office based job with these on, would you get sideways glances? I can't help but think I'd be anticipating them.

I've got a pair of Russell and Bromley Homework, which are very similar to the Cheaney Luna T-bar. I've had a lot of compliments about them. I'm not a teacher, TA, librarian... They definitely don't look out of place where I work.

OP - I think you could wear oxblood with black opaque, but how about navy or bottle green.

CarolinaWren · 29/11/2024 15:31

I wouldn't think anything because I myself own them and I love them. I have to admit I rarely wear them though. They are adorable, but I own many shoes and they aren't my favorite.

Jux · 29/11/2024 18:32

I love Mary Janes, v comfortable and go with everything. I like your shoes, though they're too high for me (I know they probably get ccalled flats but they're not flats to me!). Anyway, go for them, they're great.

SouthernFashionista · 29/11/2024 18:34

Hideous. V non-binary librarian vibes.

Riverswims · 29/11/2024 18:56

Grayson Perry springs to mind

Yep, you'll probably get people telling you they love them though. My red ones always get noticed, always get a comment. I contrast my tights to the colours in my dresses. I've been wearing autumn colours, especially my dresses with foxes on them for the last two months, and have matched these red Mary Jane Brogues with orange and mustard tights.

If you're not comfortable being seen, and a lot of people are not, they might not be right for you. You will be noticed in these. They’re definitely a talking point and if you're happy having people ask about them, or perhaps want that going forward, give them a shot.

moonshinepoursthroughmywindow · 29/11/2024 21:54

To me these are definitely skirt shoes. They'd look good with the mini and opaques but I would personally rather wear lace ups or boots with jeans. I

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/11/2024 22:06

Definitely skirt shoes. Far too boring for Grayson Perry. Wtf are non binary shoes???? Did you mean to be so offensive?

mdinbc · 29/11/2024 22:21

I love all three. They do remind me of my school shoes from early grades, but still....

I think they would look nice with turned up jeans and bright socks matching a cardigan.

SirChenjins · 29/11/2024 22:38

People like Colin Hunt from the Fast Show.

If you think that, then they're probably not for you, although it's a bit odd that so many posters seems scared by a perfectly nice pair of shoes.

Yes, I did. They are dreadful.

Yes, I did. They are dreadful.

And you’re absolutely entitled to think that the shoes are dreadful. The non-binary comment was imo really offensive though.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/11/2024 07:49

Personally I’d say absolutely no to bottle green tights. I can’t think of any situation in which they’d be likely to be a good look.

It wasn't so much offensive as just daft and meaningless.

Justkoko · 30/11/2024 10:10

I think bottle green tights would be too much for me. I'm very much in the black opaque camp.
Now considering whether the plain Polley Dr Martens would be a better fit. They are more casual iyswim so possibly more fitting to my general look.
I love the look of the Bethan t bars with the seam across the toe, but can't help thinking the platform might look a bit much.

I agree. This poster has form I think for comments that display prejudice against non-binary people.

In this case I see it as a bit of a self own, because to me 'non-binary librarian' conjures up a positive visual image rather than an unfashionable one😁

That said, the librarian in my workplace is enby and while I admire their style, they wouldn't go for the type of shoes the OP is looking at. They'd go for something less classic and traditional.

cassandre · 30/11/2024 12:21

Btw OP I don't think the platform on the Polley DMs is too much at all. But then I love that type of shoe anyway.
