What kind of person would wear these?

Or what would you think if you saw someone wearing these for work/everyday? Eg with jeans or a mini and black opaques.
Always drawn to t bars but not sure if people will think it looks a bit school-ly or silly for a grown woman! Plus fancy a departure from my usual loafers!

I like them OP! Then again I just bought these as my new work shoes, Solovair Mary Janes https://uk.nps-solovair.com/products/s0-393-bk-g

They’re similar to the Toast Solovair ones someone linked to above, but a bit cheaper and come in half sizes.

They’re classic and very comfy. I only wear comfortable shoes.

I’ve been wearing them with both jeans and skirts. I’m an academic but not a particularly fashionable one 😂

Well you'd be wrong

There's no wrong or right about it. It's a thread about personal opinions about a pair of shoes. That's all they are - opinions. The OP asked and people answered.

lashy · 26/11/2024 23:33

I owned a pair of DM's just like the first pair twenty five years ago or so (when I was 22) - only had one strap though - I really liked the look of them so bought them and then each time I went to wear them, I couldn't quite commit - due to the 'kids school shoe' appearance. Tried to wear them several times, always arriving at the same conclusion and so sent them to a charity shop.

I have the Joanie ones in red. I have been asked about them every time I wear them. I wear them with bright contrasting tights, Joanie dresses, Seasalt dresses, vintage White Stuff dresses and with amazing contrasting earrings.

They're on sale at the moment, 40% off. I will be buying more in the bright colours as they're super comfortable, great quality leather, and I view them as f* off shoes rather than the alternative. I'm in my 50s, my days of being followed are thankfully over. However, I refuse to be invisible. In these I am not. They are awesome and make me stand out in a crowd.

I am not Sue Pollard.

If you fancy some, they’re here https://joanieclothing.com/grenoble-leather-t-bar-brogues-black.html

They do these similar ones too https://joanieclothing.com/lyon-leather-t-bar-shoes-navy.html

@Justkoko love them but the quality is pap, DMs are expensive fashion shoes . The soles split quickly . I would keep looking if I were you

Any chance you could post a photo or tell us where you got them from?

They are TUK 😊

Love the Doc Martens and anyone can wear those.

Hate the others!

Magpie50 · 27/11/2024 04:34

I love the Joanie ones. Would 100% buy if they weren't made of leather.
But then my wardrobe is probably at least half Joanie by this point! (And the other half is pinafore dresses and baggy cords as I clearly miss my 70s childhood!😂).

crockofshite · 27/11/2024 06:56

I like the Doc martens, I'd wear those

Pumpkincozynights · 27/11/2024 07:21

I can’t decide if they are far too little girl like and odd or fabulously trend setting.
It’s strange how it’s acceptable for men to carry on wearing little boy’s style shoes, yet women feel they must progress to ‘women’s shoes,’ whatever that means.
I imagine someone with short, coloured hair wearing bright colours and interesting knitwear wearing these. Someone who has a real leather bag, possibly a satchel or rucksack. Pierced ears definitely and at least one tattoo.
I love shoes with straps btw.

😍 love those!

CandleStub · 27/11/2024 09:24

Someone a bit arty and alternative. I probably wouldn’t wear them but I’d appreciate them on someone else.

dephlogisticated · 27/11/2024 09:52

I've been pondering that first pair too... I went for the more classic shiny patent dms in the end but I love these... I tend to wear wide leg jeans with soft jumpers tucked in and care a lot about what I wear! So definitely hoping I don't give the impression that I don't care or that I'm dressing like a little girl.

Go for the first ones OP they're a little quirky, just a tad alternative but nothing major... and would look brilliant if that's your style. Stripy socks too I hope!

weareallcats · 27/11/2024 09:55

I also care a lot about what I wear and put something considered on most days - I do favour the dark academia/art teacher style and sometimes wear things that are rather florid. I like these shoes - agree they have an alternative, arty look.

orangetulipsinbloom · 27/11/2024 12:17

My DD (16) wears the black DM Mary Janes as school shoes. She has a quite distinctive creative/romantic/dark academia style (lots of beautiful vintage clothes, arts scholarship). They suit her without being childish at all. However, one of the buckles broke a couple of weeks ago 15 months after the purchase and I was very unimpressed by DM customer service who showed zero interest in providing a new buckle. For this reason alone I would not recommend them.

It wasn't your opinion about the shoes. It was what you think about people who wear them.

I would think the sort of person who would wear these shoes is a bit childish, doesn't care about clothes and has no sense of style whatsoever

BitOutOfPractice · 27/11/2024 19:48

Id think the person wearing them was cool, quite funky, into clothes but too cool to admit it, and a leftie.

Echobelly · 27/11/2024 19:50

Former/current indie kid. Someone into dark academia (if younger) or maybe 'corporate goth'.

WalterdelaMare · 27/11/2024 19:52

I clicked on the Joanie links upthread. I’ll undoubtedly be spammed and regret it.

Very interesting styling. They seem to have men’s legs modelling the shoes. Nothing wrong with that, blah blah. But it’s a tad unusual.

Your point about gender differences in shoes is an excellent one. Most men's shoes are essentially a version of boy's shoes, aren't they? Although most men tend to lose the velcro at some point.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/11/2024 20:05

And as for an actual woman commenting on actual shoes saying 'fuck me' or 'don't fuck me'...

Jesus...

0psiedasiy · 27/11/2024 20:11

I have the dm ones that have the double buckle very comfortable, usually wear with a dress and tights or jeans. I know a few community nurses that wear them in their uniform.

excelledyourself · 27/11/2024 20:11

I quite like the DM's. I would definitely wear the burgundy. I wouldn't wear the black with the blue inside as they very much remind me of my school unifor

LightSpeeds · 27/11/2024 20:14

I like them!
