Des this dress look like a nightie?

I purchased the below ghost dress but not sure ( tags still on)
I like the colour and Victorian vibe plus it's 100% cotton.
But I do have a waist and the dress doesn't!
I am thinking it will look ok once ironed, and with laced up boots... 😆 Thoughts welcome..

No. It doesn't look like a nighty

TheFlis · 18/11/2024 20:24

It doesn’t look like a nightie but it does look a bit big for you compared to how it fits the model.

Finnulafishface · 18/11/2024 20:25

Yeah it absolutely swamps you!

Sidge · 18/11/2024 20:26

Um it’s a little Victorian nightgown-like. And it does absolutely nothing for you.

Onlyvisiting · 18/11/2024 20:26

Love the colour and victoriana esq feel, but yes, does look like a victoriana nightie rather 😆. Could a broad belt work or would it look weird?
I mean, it looks fine, I just prefer more fitted styles myself. Seems a waste of a good waist!

GatherlyGal · 18/11/2024 20:26

Tis a bit Amish on you but only because its too big.

MichaelSchofield1991 · 18/11/2024 20:27

I think it does look a bit like a very old fashioned nightie. It just looks like a very unflattering dress, sorry OP!

mrspresents · 18/11/2024 20:27

It does nothing for you at all. I'd return it for something that fits and looks better on you.

Anywherebuthere · 18/11/2024 20:28

Yes it kind of does! But if you like it and you're happy with the way you style it that's what counts. It does look oversized on you.

healthybychristmas · 18/11/2024 20:28

You have a great figure and that dress was made to hide it.

user9086572 · 18/11/2024 20:29

It would be fine if you were an eastern european peasant in the early 1900s

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 18/11/2024 20:29

Yep, it does

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 18/11/2024 20:31

Yes it does, or summer kaftan type thing. Not a dress for winter and it's huge on you.

MEinMelia · 18/11/2024 20:32

It’s not showing you in your best light.

Pancakeflipper · 18/11/2024 20:32

I like it. With the right pair of boots it, I think it would look great.

*please note I do not know fashion trends

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 18/11/2024 20:33

Get it in a smaller size or return.

pinkyredrose · 18/11/2024 20:34

Sorry but it looks like a sack, it's the most unflattering cut and length.

Garlicpest · 18/11/2024 20:41

I like it! Agree about the boots.

It takes a bit of eye adjustment to get used to dresses not being 'form fitting' but why the hell should they be? Everyone knows you've got a body under there, it's clear you're quite slim, and I bet it feels really nice when you move.

Half of S&B would only be happy if women always wore nice little suits with a nipped-in waist 😉

Abitlosttoday · 18/11/2024 20:43

It's horrible. You deserve better. I say that as someone who wears dresses without waists despite also having a waist. I think the high-neck and no-waist combination is punishing.

Yes. A 1970s granny nightie.

Coconutter24 · 18/11/2024 20:43

It looks awful (sorry), it’s also not very flattering

RaininSummer · 18/11/2024 20:43

Very unflattering. Sends off workhouse vibes.

IBroughtTheBunny · 18/11/2024 20:43

Not the point of the thread but I love your door coat hanger!!

Doggymummar · 18/11/2024 20:44

No. But it's at LEAST 2 sizes too big

Nikitaspearlearring · 18/11/2024 20:46

It's not meant to be tight and show your waist, though. I like it.
