Des this dress look like a nightie?

I purchased the below ghost dress but not sure ( tags still on)
I like the colour and Victorian vibe plus it's 100% cotton.
But I do have a waist and the dress doesn't!
I am thinking it will look ok once ironed, and with laced up boots... 😆 Thoughts welcome..

Of FFS @Redfox it's horrific! 😂 Looks awful, and IS awful !!! 😱Who the hell designed that? No wonder it's half price! I would give them a fiver for it, and I'd make a tent with it for the cat! As for 'does it look like a nightie?' No. I have never seen nightie that ugly

Get your money back! Shock

SwayingInTime · 18/11/2024 21:15

I have many similar nighties in white from my very religious American grandmother.

It's such a bizarre style, fabric and colour choice by the designer, I could see elements working for a summery dress maaaybe but as is, it's very odd.

WafflesOrIceCream · 18/11/2024 21:18

Have you tried it with a belt?

Leoislazy · 18/11/2024 21:18

I personally hate this style, it’s a shapeless sack. It’s the sort of thing I wore during my pregnancies. You have a good figure why dress like you don’t?

LadyRoughDiamond · 18/11/2024 21:19

V. Oversized cut - I’d consider sizing down.

This is what I found "We’ve taken the enduring nightwear-as-daywear trend as inspiration for Frances, a long midi dress crafted in breathable cotton poplin. Full of romantic details, this loose-fit style features a cutwork applique bib front, delicate ruffles at the neck and cuff, lace inserts and gently voluminous ¾ length sleeves. Keyhole opening at the back."
I think it looks lovely it's all about how you carry it off and what you put on your feet. You have to do up your hair as well. It's a fancy outfit.

Here's the link. I'm not keen on the colour and it needs a good iron but otherwise I agree with what you say.

I agree it’s not the best look. I think the issue is mainly that it is cotton and hence has no drape or movement.

Hardbackwriter · 18/11/2024 21:24

I think it is a gorgeous dress, and looks gorgeous on you. I also think that after reading this thread I've developed such an aversion to the word 'flattering'!

MorrisZapp · 18/11/2024 21:25

My knowledge of such subjects is informed solely by BBC costume drama, but I'm certain the Victorians didn't wear ribena coloured night attire. I mean you don't see Kate Bush wuthering away in crushed raspberry do you.

Guavafish1 · 18/11/2024 21:26

I’d return it

The thing is a dress can be "flattering" and "show off your lovely figure" and still be hideous.

It looks like a sack

No other nation on earth wear such shapeless stuff as the British, notwithstanding religious apparel.

The spanish or italians wouldnt be caught dead in something like this

They've been slow on the uptake, granted, but they're getting there 😉
If you fancy taking a look for yourself, you'll be relieved to see Spanish Mango has offset the big frocks with an equal number of dresses that are just a very small bit of very wide mesh draped over one shoulder - perfect for "showing off your lovely figure" (and lovely underwear!)

It does absolutely nothing for you. It sits wrongly over the bust. It's far too big for you. It looks like a sack.
I like the colour on you, but that's it.
I would return it OP.

paristotokyo · 18/11/2024 21:38

Sorry op, you could do much better!

thingymijigi · 18/11/2024 21:46

It's the wrong material for this time of year. That's a light summer cotton fabric in an autumnal colour and it looks wrong. You can definitely do better.

harriethoyle · 18/11/2024 21:47

It’s giving me Miss Haversham’s gothic little sister vibes. Sorry!

Max Mara is Italian. Lots of similar loose fitting dresses.

It is not flattering , but I’m doubting that it would be flattering on anyone . Quite expensive for a sack .

downwindofyou · 18/11/2024 21:53

Astounding how different people's taste is

Newname1989 · 18/11/2024 21:59

It’s just a bit too big and long on you OP. I think you could find a dress with a similar style that fitted better. You have a great figure but this dress doesn’’t work on you.

TheBigSalami · 18/11/2024 22:01

It looks like a burial shroud a monk might wear.

VegTrug · 18/11/2024 22:03

Yes I’d say it looks like an Edwardian nightgown

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/11/2024 22:04

Oh dear. It’s not good, sorry. It’s not you, it’s it.

TubeScreamer · 18/11/2024 22:05

Amish or weird cult vibes for me.

you have an amazing figure and wouid look much better in something else less shapeless

KitsyWitsy · 18/11/2024 22:05

I can see why you like it but it’s not flattering on you.
