Des this dress look like a nightie?

I purchased the below ghost dress but not sure ( tags still on)
I like the colour and Victorian vibe plus it's 100% cotton.
But I do have a waist and the dress doesn't!
I am thinking it will look ok once ironed, and with laced up boots... 😆 Thoughts welcome..

I like it! Agree about the boots.

It takes a bit of eye adjustment to get used to dresses not being 'form fitting' but why the hell should they be? Everyone knows you've got a body under there, it's clear you're quite slim, and I bet it feels really nice when you move.

Half of S&B would only be happy if women always wore nice little suits with a nipped-in waist 😉

Or something clingy that "shows off your great figure"

DoYouReally · 18/11/2024 20:54

The colour is nice but the dress absolutely swamps you and isn't flattering.

NerdWhoEatsMedlar · 18/11/2024 20:54

A dress that cut should show off your tits and then gently drift across the rest of your body.
Can you hoik your tits up a bit son that the band is more under them?

ExpertlyDecorated · 18/11/2024 20:55

It would if it was white. I think it looks dated, there were a lot of dresses in this style a couple of years ago but they seem to have disappeared from the shops, also the high neck / no waist combo is unflattering, as someone else said. If it’s pure cotton it will crease really easily too.

bunnybunnybunnybunny · 18/11/2024 20:56

No, doesn't look like a night. However, the proportions, not to mention fit don't work for you - the seam is cutting you across the bust rather than sitting below.

One to return.

Olika · 18/11/2024 20:57

It looks far too big on you. I don't think it's working.

Hoppinggreen · 18/11/2024 20:57

Love the colour and i don't think its very nightie like but I also think it looks too big on you. You look like you have a lovely figure and that dress is shapeless, its not great to be honest

AgathaLioness · 18/11/2024 20:57

Chunky boots and a cropped jacket to nip it in at the waist and it'll look lovely I think

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 18/11/2024 20:58

It doesn’t look like a nightie but it looks really shapeless and I don’t think I like it.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 18/11/2024 20:58

I like the colour in the retailer's photo, your pics make it look a different colour. It's very screwed up, I think it will be a creased nightmare to wear! I don't think it looks like a nightie, but I also don't like it much, sorry.

TheChosenTwo · 18/11/2024 20:58

I actually really like it but I’m quite partial to rather oversized dark garments!
Not everything has to show a waist!!

PrimalLass · 18/11/2024 20:59

Yes

SoNiceToComeHomeTo · 18/11/2024 20:59

It looks much better on the model who no doubt has a waist of her own, probably because it has been starched and ironed. The fabric of the one you are wearing looks thin and too baggy. Definitely one to change.

soupfiend · 18/11/2024 21:00

It could possibly be dressed better to make it look as good as it can, but that means much much smaller size, probably a belt. Probably trying to change it into something its not, so no its not a good idea

IHateSnowItsColdAndSlippy · 18/11/2024 21:01

It does not look like a nightie but is not a great shape. I do love the colour.

Ineffable23 · 18/11/2024 21:03

I think if you wanted it to have a waist you could put some waist darts into it without too much pain. It will never be a massively fitted piece but it could have more shape in it than it does with about half an hour's effort pinning and sewing as long as you had a sewing machine.

Alternatively you can belt it or lean into it's non-waistedness, but I think I'd need to iron it at home to decide if I was up for that.

Are you sure you don't need a size down?

It looks like a sack

No other nation on earth wear such shapeless stuff as the British, notwithstanding religious apparel.

The spanish or italians wouldnt be caught dead in something like this

Ratfinkstinkypink · 18/11/2024 21:03

It reminds me of my mother's 1970s nightdresses.

ThatRareUmberJoker · 18/11/2024 21:04

I think it looks lovely with the right shoes. You need to think about shoes.

PrettyFlamingo66 · 18/11/2024 21:05

Yes i looks like a Victorian nightie, it's not nice in my opinion no matter how you accessorise it and it's very unflattering,.sorry but you did ask 🫣

Charlize43 · 18/11/2024 21:08

It could look smashing with a bonnet, a straw basket, and some hobnail boots... donkey optional.

Redfox · 18/11/2024 21:10

Ah thanks for the comments & links, and some of them have made me laugh.

The dress I am wearing is XS ( i think Ghost sizes run large too) and think there is some pins being used on the models dress as the dress not look too big on her.

And while, I am slim, I don't have model proportions and have hips etc.
And yes the bust seam goes over my busy and not under it so not the most flattering look.

This is what I found "We’ve taken the enduring nightwear-as-daywear trend as inspiration for Frances, a long midi dress crafted in breathable cotton poplin. Full of romantic details, this loose-fit style features a cutwork applique bib front, delicate ruffles at the neck and cuff, lace inserts and gently voluminous ¾ length sleeves. Keyhole opening at the back."
I think it looks lovely it's all about how you carry it off and what you put on your feet. You have to do up your hair as well. It's a fancy outfit.
