get your kit off and go nudy doody

no one bats an eyelid then as you will be in the quiet part of the beach away from crowds

Monkeybird · 23/04/2008 17:19

no but really sputters, in Italy they probably don't have (3x) ten pound babies, stretchmarks on their stretchmarks and an overhang that I think doctors actually have a term for in fat people (I believe it is pannus which means 'apron'. Hmmm, nice.)

Some of us just should not ever contemplate bikins ever again, fat or not.

lizandlulu · 23/04/2008 17:20

no, im not going nude. only cause my friend wouldnt.

honest

I followed MN advice last December as I thought I needed to move from bikinis into tankinis. When I got to the pool and beach however, I just thought, stuff it, and mainly wore my bikinis. Go for it - enjoy your weekend away.

HeadFairy · 23/04/2008 17:26

I would think nothing of it, dh would probably mutter something though, he's a terrible bitch sometimes! I think there's nothing wrong with wearing a bikini if you're not a perfect size 10, it's all about making the most of your better bits. I'm very hour glass (15" difference between waist and hips!!) have a cracking cleavage and a pretty good tummy with no stretch marks, but shocking legs and thighs full of cellulite, so I usually wear a bikini but with a sarong or something loosely tied around my waist. We're always our harshest critic though aren't we? Most of the time we're fretting about our fat thighs no-one else has noticed them.

i really dont think it matters..i wouldnt wear one myself anyway as just very wrong but other people can do whatever

widgypog · 23/04/2008 18:10

if she was flabby I would honestly prob think bleurgh and I feel I can say that because I have been a size 18 ,but at the same time good on her. I didnt seim when I was bigger and when we went on holiday and had a private villa so I could sunbathe at will qithout fear of someone throwing up on me!!

Fullmoonfiend · 23/04/2008 18:13

see,,I'm a flatchested size 10 and if I wear a one-piece I look like a 10-year old with cellulite..

And if I wear a bikini, I don't 'fill it' and still worry about my crepey bits and cellulite.

this is what I will be wearing this year

MoreSpamThanGlam · 23/04/2008 18:16

Well i am a 16/18 and wouldnt wear a bikini. And yes I would think "you" have to have some balls to wear one.

On the other hand if you had a decent sarong/kaftan on for wandering about then that might look cool.

i just got the most FAB tankini from Debenhams wotsisname mcqueen. Black with swirly bits and sequins. Tis lush and I look hot (my norks are fab)

NappiesGalore · 23/04/2008 18:25

hang on... youre going to ibiza? and youre worrying what you'll look like on the beach?

trust me, theres so much oddness and variety on your average ibizan beach, there'll be plenty for you and everyone else to be looking at besides you. unless you want everyone to look at you... but you'll have a job on your hands trying to out-spectacle some of those peeps!

anything goes in ibiza. hold your head high, relax and enjoy yourself.

blousy · 23/04/2008 18:26

I went on hols with my friend who's a good size 14/16 and she looked gorgeous in her bikini, really curvy and womanly. She has no cellulite !

NappiesGalore · 23/04/2008 18:27

we women on the uk are Sooooooooooooooooooooo uptight about this sort of thing. ericL said it (and he should know) men dont give a shit about this stuff! we are not under microscopes at all times! people have better things to think about! and if they dont, they are sad gits or projecting their own insecurities, so who cares what they think?

warm sand between your toes and cool sea water on your skin... ahhhhh. lovely feeling.

MrsMattie · 23/04/2008 18:27

I don't ever bother with judging people at the beach, FGS! It's hot, your swimming and trying to get a tan, so of course whatever size you are you're going to get your bits out. Only 17 yr olds or very, very sad adults treat the beach like a fashion parade.

Iota · 23/04/2008 18:31

does it really matter what you think as long as you keep your thoughts to yourself?

Twinkie1 · 23/04/2008 18:31

I'd make her my new best friend for the day so I looked super slim beside her.

Forever shallow and heartless me!

MoreSpamThanGlam · 23/04/2008 18:34

This is min its lush

MoreSpamThanGlam · 23/04/2008 18:34

treelover · 23/04/2008 20:01

well, after a while, you get sick to death of seeing the vast amount of flesh exposed. and everyone looks awful

Cammelia · 23/04/2008 20:07

I would be of her confidence

If she was brown I would think good on her, she looks great. I think tannedness (?) determines whether you look good in a bikini or not. As I am pale blue all over, I shall not be troubling the beach this year.

Heated · 23/04/2008 20:30

To answer the OP, I'd never notice, at size 18 they'd be one of many & certainly not the biggest. Last summer we did (dh first!) notice the topless Swede with amazing uplifted norks and the boob-job scars & the girl with head- to-toe tattoos.

Weirdly, I think look better in a bikini than a swimsuit 'cos it emphasises waist and boobs, my best bits, & detracts from bum and thighs - while I think a swimsuit draws the eye to those areas iyswim. Also prefer to buy bikini separates cos can't get big enough cup size on a swimsuit, without going up 3 sizes.

soph28 · 23/04/2008 20:40

I agree with others. Most people wouldn't think much about size 18. I am about size 16/18 and only about 1.5st overweight.

When I was on honeymoon in Mexico (and was slim and lovely!) there were quite a few VERY large american ladies who went topless and you couldn't see their bikini bottoms as they were hidden by flesh. We did notice them.

Also you can be a small size and look too skinny in a bikini.

Sputnik · 23/04/2008 21:05

Monkeybird, really there are plenty of fat people in Italy, even at the beach. Not that many stretchmarks for some reason, maybe olive oil consumption (I don't have them either, [preen]).
Anyhow, I wore a bikini 3 months post natally last year, and it wasn't exactly a pretty sight, but really I would've stood out more if I'd covered up IYSWIM
