I felt more self conscious last year in a bikini because I was easily the palest person on the beach. Was a size 8-10 at the time (pg now so no longer!), but was so white thet I really felt people were looking at me for that reason!

Actually, my v fair DS was even paler than me but it was less obvious as he was covered head to knee in a sun suit. We looked ridiculous on the beach with a bunch of Spaniards staring at us! Will def get myself a spray tan next time.

(Before I get told off for being pale and out in the sun I was smothered in v high factor cream and indoors during the hottest time.

4+1 - i am pale too, but I prefer that to looking like a tile of worn brown lino, like the spaniards do.

Fourplusone I always feel like a freak because of being so pale. Am size 8-10 but paranoid of blinding people with my English Rose complexion. Just feel ugly and gawky.

Have invested in one of those tinted body lotions that builds up gradually. Then I don't look too orang. For some reason traditional fake tan just doesn't look right on me!

I wouldn't think anything.

It's such a shame that women feel so uncomfortable about being curvy but then when Liz Hurley wants her photos in a bikini to be airbrushed it's not helping us real women in any way

I owuld think 'put on some clothes' - but I think that about anyone with skin exposed in the sun. My family are the pasty looking lot in long sleeves

kittywise · 23/04/2008 16:38

I think it would think 'put it away' as most size 18's I have seen also pretty un toned with rolls of fat. Perhaps if she was a tall woman who had clearly exercised and looked after herself then it would be alright.
Tbh I would think the same about any body that wasn't cared for. I think that skinnier bodies can get away with it more easily, that's all.

Good for her!

We are far too worried about the "perfect" body and shape. Just enjoy the sun!

Wouldn't think good on her as that is patronising and she would probably be annoyed but wouldn't really think anything although if I'm honest would feel good that I was slimmer I knwo that sounds bad but I am being truthful. But anyone can wear what they like bikinis not just for skinnies

Sputnik · 23/04/2008 17:14

I live in Italy, and you see all sizes and ages in bikinis at the beach. It doesn't seem to be a problem.
You never see tankinis here, and 1 pieces are for the over 70s.

well i think i will bite the bullett and wear one. although will probably invest in a new one as i think mine is a bit too skimpy. i will need something more substantial in the stomach area.

i have 2 but never worn either, and both have tie sided bottoms.
