Do comfy heels exist?!

Lcm11 · 10/10/2024 08:17

I am going to a black tie event in a few weeks and will be wearing a black midi dress (link below).

Last time I wore this dress, I wore these heels and I was walking like a giraffe that has just left it's mother's womb - so embarrassing.

https://www.asos.com/prd/205092687?acquisitionsource=com.whatsapp

I'm trying to find some nice black heels that I can actually walk in, that go with this dress. If they happen to be somewhat comfy that would be an added bonus. Can anyone help me? Thanks so much.

The comfiest heels I own are Esska. I have these ones but they have so many colours and styles. I think the block heel is the key.

A block or platform type heel definitely, and only three or four inches max. I would use a compeed plaster on both heels as a precautionary measure and get a shoe half a size bigger than you would get in a flat. If possible.
And use taxis!

PrinnyPree · 13/10/2024 09:58

I found Carvela do comfy heels, even the higher ones and don't break the bank. (Although I haven't bought a pair of stilettos this side of lockdown/child-birth so hopefully the quality hasn't gone down hill) 😅

DollopOfFun · 13/10/2024 10:39

I have Esska Cleo metallic, genuinely comfy heels. I didn't wear heels for years before getting these, as I can't bear having painful feet.

Clairp1973 · 13/10/2024 12:48

hey, I feel your pain or should I say I used to lol !? I must be honest I haven’t looked at all the answers so I don’t know if my brand has been mentioned in the answers or even if your finances are around this mark - for me personally it’s even bonus that they’re not too expensive but one thing I will say is not only to do sizes they also do Will fashion say it was at the end of season not like the sales they have now where they save things on sale but really it’s just on sale all the time either proper sells and if you go on the list and send you the emails you will see on one day the pair of shoes you saw could be £60 and two weeks if you haven’t bought me one but they might go down to £40 actual REAL sales!! - which i think don’t think we seem to exist anymore it’s as if everything is out all the time I can honestly say you will not be disappointed. I promise you. I tend to wait until the sakes start & buy some then! google Carvela … I think they are like a sister of Kurt Geiger.

BUT I am not underestimating how these shoes by Carvela but the range is called “comfort” changed my life! finding myself divorced and dating again and sunny going on a holiday aboard with lively new boyfriend - and 40 something - I thought my days of even wearing a small wedge were over…. I didn’t wanna go on holiday with the new boyfriend feeling like a frump - so I went for it and I’ve never looked back
I bought these beautiful “Comfort wedges”… and I want them every night for two weeks on cobbles/dancing… Since then which is now 15 years ago how am I go to brand? I must admit I’ve probably had one pair that were a little bit too high for me and they were like little pixie boots… but I think that due to the fact that I went for a slightly higher heel…

I literally style my mum who is nearly 80 in their trainers - she must have about five pairs by now and I’ve also bought her a pair of boots long knee high boots for Christmas (Flat/Fgrippy but LEATGER! & they look proper funky she won’t look fucking idiot though because they like quality you can’t honestly please check them out. I’ll send you some links. Good luck.
BUT THETLY REALLY ARE WORTH IT.
I know I do without them if they didn’t exist!! wouldn’t even go to another brand anymore - I literally only ever buy Carvela or Kurt Geiger as for me they are both good quality & fashionable and COMFORTABLE!!!

Also they do the most amazing sales at the end of season and usually have offers on all year round that are pretty good. So subscribe to their hassle emails but I hope you’re worth it I swear…..

The trick to a walkable heel is having a platform in the front part. Otherwise they’re impossible!

Actually in my clubbing days I wore high heels with platform heels and they were comfy. I loved platform wedge style shoes for work then though with straps across the ankle. My poor back is wincing thinking of that now!

NorthFaceofthelaundrypile · 13/10/2024 17:07

I’m usually an 8, with wider than average feet.
i found the esskas come up pretty roomy. I have 7.5 Charlie’s in Cobalt blue suede.
No pinching, rubbing or ball of the foot burning, and I can dance in them for hours.
Take your regular size.

Lotsofsnacks · 15/10/2024 19:12

You do need a killer heel as the dress is quite sexy. Will look silly with flats. Office have comfy party shoes I have found. Don’t write heels off just go try loads on, happy shopping!

These dance shoe sites with hundreds and hundreds of fancy looking options are Chinese and the quality of the actual shoes ranges from poor to appalling. They certainly are no good for proper dancing and aren't great for much else either. It's hit and miss, and some are just about tolerable, but I wouldn't risk it.

hopsalong · 15/10/2024 23:16

No. They don't exist. Took me 25 years and many thousands of pounds to come to that conclusion, but, no, they don't exist. There are ones that feel comfortable when you're standing up, but they're no good for walking. And ones that you can walk in reasonably well but which fuck your back up.

Now I buy very expensive and complicated flat shoes for special occasions.

Gunpowder · 16/10/2024 06:46

For anyone who liked the idea of ballroom shoes but wasn’t sure what to go for, I buy mine from Dance Direct or Move Dance. I usually buy shoes by Freed or Roch Valley which are manufactured in the UK, but I’ve also got a pair from So Danca (South American brand I think - but also excellent quality.) My Freed shoes have long outlasted my wedding Louboutins as well as being a million times more comfortable. They do have soft bottoms so you can’t wear them in the rain, but they’re fine to wear outside for a bit.

At least one of the manufacturers will put an outdoor sole on if you ask. Can't remember which one.

The other option, worn by a very different kind of dancer, is Pleaser. These have outdoor soles and are designed to be comfortable for hours. The only problem is finding a pair that aren't too sexy...

Kate at WearMyMoney has a 15% off code for Esska at the moment. KATE15

I have two sets of heels (both Clark’s) that are comfy!! Handed to me by my mum from when she was younger. Couldn’t believe they existed!! Very officey though!

To a lot of people, me included, comfy and heels just don't belong in the same sentence. I can't wear "killer heels" due to having very painful arthritis in one foot.

I can wear heels of up to 1.5 inches as long as I don't have to walk a lot, so I joined this thread to see if anyone could suggest some comfortable but elegant shoes (with a slight heel)

I'm afraid I really dislike the clumpy Esska shoes shown on here. They are anything but elegant.

That said, I agree that flats wouldn't look right with the OP's dress.

I'm guessing you've never tried professional Latin dance sandals?

No. It's the heel height that is important for me as I can't bend the toe on my right foot very far.
