Do comfy heels exist?!

Lcm11 · 10/10/2024 08:17

I am going to a black tie event in a few weeks and will be wearing a black midi dress (link below).

Last time I wore this dress, I wore these heels and I was walking like a giraffe that has just left it's mother's womb - so embarrassing.

https://www.asos.com/prd/205092687?acquisitionsource=com.whatsapp

I'm trying to find some nice black heels that I can actually walk in, that go with this dress. If they happen to be somewhat comfy that would be an added bonus. Can anyone help me? Thanks so much.

I would say make sure you go to the shops and try some on. Buy leather, wear them in, and invest in some good insoles. I love these ones, very pretty and they really do make shoes more comfortable https://www.alicebow.com/?srsltid=AfmBOopEXtdYfWUOZzkZY4_wVhbciB8WD3nwtOdeOYUF1RCLx-eUySmL

Also don’t go for too high a heel if you’re not used to them, no shoe will be comfortable.

I have a couple of pairs of Gabor and they are very comfy with nice heels, no giraffe incidents!

This is going to sound mad but if you're just wearing them inside, high heeled shoes for ballroom dancing are surprisingly comfortable. I think the heels are a bit springy? If you google you might find some suitable ones.

I came on this thread to see if ballroom shoes could be an option. I keep getting ads for them on Facebook and some of the styles are more modern than I expected. There are some suede boots I love but didn’t want to buy without asking someone with experience of dance shoes. Any brands you recommend?

Gymnopedie · 10/10/2024 16:29

I can wear these all day in comfort.

Yes, Clark’s 🤣 I literally swear by them. I’ve got them in stilettos, block heels, shoe-boots, ankle boots, heeled sandals, patent, matte, coloured… you name it. I’ve got them for all occasions.
They have padded insoles and you can actually run in them. I’m not even kidding-even the stilettos 🤣 I’ve got pairs suitable for black tie events, work, causal etc etc.
The current range are sh*t, but I buy past season ranges from Amazon, brand new

HippyKayYay · 10/10/2024 17:06

Esska are unfathomably comfy. I threw out all my heels in lockdown and then wanted a pair for a party last year. Bought Esska’s and I was in them until 3am, jumping up and down on a dance floor. I went for the mid-height option I think. They cost a bloody fortune but I got them in a practical colour (metallic gold) so they will likely be the only pair of heels I will ever own or need!

Unfortunately not - I got bought a pair for a singing thing and they were v comfortable but don't know where they were from. I also saw a recommendation on reddit or somewhere? Super unhelpful lol!

I've got a link to the most comfortable "heels" I've ever owned (I still have a pair). I went in search of a link from their website but although they do the style they no longer do the pump that I have. Gutted. Absolutely gutted. The link is from eBay and they're not cheap and not everyone's cup of tea but their Eamz act almost like a wedge in terms of comfort. I walked around New York in them and my feet never hurt at all.

Block heels as others have said

Or the most comfortable heels I have had - if you can find them in a sale!

I've had comfortable 3 inch heeled shoes from Clark's, Tesco and George.
I wouldn't want to walk miles in them but fine for a night out.

oviraptor21 · 10/10/2024 19:09

A block heel and a platform does it for me. Plus making sure they don't pinch anywhere. I can dance for five hours in something like the Zalandos linked earlier.

Lcm11 · 10/10/2024 19:27

Wow thank you all so so much for the recommendations!! Going to research the brands/links/shoes on Saturday.

Sounds like slingbacks, with a thin heel and pointed toe was the worst type of shoe I could have gone for, typical! 🤣

Look for a block heel. They're much more comfy and easier to walk in. Plus they seem to be on trend at the moment!

Came here to say that. I wear block heels all day every day by choice.

I'd look at Dune or LK Bennett for comfy shoes. Look at materials too, e.g. suede/leather. Their suede shoes are fabulous. I'll be honest I don't think the brands aimed at teens are going for comfort. I used to wear these around age 20 but wouldn't go there again for comfort reasons.

Summitfunnyupthere · 10/10/2024 20:13

I’ve had comfy understated heels in the past from m&s footglove,
but if you prefer something trendier I think those gel things that slip in the shoe really make a huge difference.

IOSTT · 10/10/2024 20:47

Not sure that dress is suitable for a black tie event.

JustBec · 10/10/2024 21:02

I’ve recently bought some from Naturalizer. Have only tried on at home so far but they seem promising- comfortable and engineered differently, to balance the weight over the foot.

Yes, this. The only pair of heels I can bear to wear is half a size too big to accommodate the insole, party feet heel AND toe pads and a heel pad 😂

Something like these, or these (more pricey option).

Those Ganni shoes are awful, I know a girl who has them but I've only just learned they're not even leather for that price.

Tbh though OP, my main concern is your dress. Black tie dress code doesn't mean just a black dress, I don't think that dress is elegant enough. It's too short for a start.

Black tie dress code doesn't even mean a black dress. It's the men's bowties that are black.

I think you may have misread my post. I know this, that's why I said it 'doesn't mean just a black dress', as in that's not what the 'black' refers to.

MaidOfAle · 10/10/2024 23:13

There's more than one kind of black tie and a black tie dinner calls for a different kind of dress than, say, an award ceremony.

https://www.apothecaries.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/220210-A-Guide-for-the-Guests-of-Liverymen-at-Formal-Dinners.pdf have dressing for black tie dinners nailed.

Pretty Little Thing do not produce anything that is black-tie-worthy. "Fast fashion" and "black tie" are mutually exclusive. What you need is a classy midi or maxi dress in a dressy fabric. If your budget doesn't stretch to buying a dress like that, which is completely understandable given how rarely you will wear it, hire one.

I understand that you are referring to the "tone" of the dress. I was expanding on what you said by making it clear that the dress need not be black in colour unless you play for an orchestra that wears black tie.

I have broad feet can't even get them into stiletto shows never mind walk in them. I always go for wedges. I've had a few from River Island.
