Do comfy heels exist?!

Lcm11 · 10/10/2024 08:17

I am going to a black tie event in a few weeks and will be wearing a black midi dress (link below).

Last time I wore this dress, I wore these heels and I was walking like a giraffe that has just left it's mother's womb - so embarrassing.

I'm trying to find some nice black heels that I can actually walk in, that go with this dress. If they happen to be somewhat comfy that would be an added bonus. Can anyone help me? Thanks so much.

Please reconsider the dress.

SingingWaffleDoggy · 11/10/2024 07:52

I agree you might need to rethink the dress. I love it but it’s definitely not black tie I’m afraid

Lcm11 · 11/10/2024 08:00

Thanks for feedback on the dress, checked it with the organiser and she said it's fine for this event. It definitely looks more revealing in the photos on the website than when I have it on.

Howling at the video of Jeremy Vine. I wouldn't even be able to get my wide feet into those heels🤣🤣

Any shows by Chie Mihara are very comfy. Even the very high heels.

BlueBandedButterfly · 11/10/2024 12:30

I find platform heels to be the most comfortable. I can wear them all night with no issue. The balls of my feet start hurting after a while with block heels.

IlooklikeNigella · 11/10/2024 12:34

Lovely dress.

I gave up on any sort of heels during illness but I'm recently wearing platforms from Dune and I love them. I've the nude version of these and I think they would look great with your dress.

Block heels or wedges are definitely comfier than the shoes you showed. I recently got some gold block heels (was going for a 70s vibe) from New Look that were surprisingly comfy. They had cushioning under the ball of the foot. I walked to the event (only 10 mins, but still!), danced loads and walked home. My feet were a bit achy, but nowhere near the unbearableness of other heels

Have a look at Esska and Anonymous Copenhagen. Really high heels are always going to be hard to walk in but a mid (4-6cm) kitten, block or cone heel shouldn't be torture. Make sure there's enough space at the front too so your foot isn't too pinched across the toes.

Esska and Anonymous Copenhagen are very comfy heel wise albeit a bit more expensive.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 11/10/2024 16:30

I’ve bought some Next Forever Comfort glittery stilettos that I could just about walk from Oxford Circus tube station to a restaurant nearby and walk back to the same tube afterwards, I had trainers or ballet flats for inbetween as they were no way comfy to wear on the whole trip from my home in SE London! So just because they say they’re Forever Comfort doesn’t mean to say they are comfy!

thecatneuterer · 11/10/2024 16:31

The only heels that are properly comfortable are professional dance shoes. You can put on a new pair and dance for literally hours and nothing hurts. And many are really pretty and you can choose heel height, type of heel etc. Admittedly they aren't high fashion, but they are pretty and, if you aren't a dancer, will be a revelation in terms of comfort. For example:

I haven’t tried these because I have quite weird feet and need to try shoes on, but you could try heels from this company if you don’t mind ordering online. I wish they would open a shop in the UK. baredfootwear.com/uk

I very rarely wear heels but if I have to my go to shoes are the LK Bennett Floret style. They are quite pricey but I find them comfy and easy to walk in https://www.lkbennett.com/product/SCFLORETSUEDEBlackBlack%7eFloret-Black-Suede-Pointed-Toe-Courts-Black?currency=GBP&istCompanyId=337c91ab-deea-4ab6-998e-03ece089da1f&istFeedId=8eb3370f-e730-40e5-89c0-e499b9e47d89&istItemId=wrmmmiwta&istBid=t&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwmaO4BhAhEiwA5p4YL6boUP9asL-b2ibk24OmyIO_25aEBwPgx31qKRNrOjqgeAMt0ayiwxoCOMMQAvD_BwE

CriticalThinker · 11/10/2024 20:19

Block heels.

OP I would rethink the dress. That’s more clubbing than black tie.

NH84 · 11/10/2024 20:40

Avoid stilettos, plenty of wider heels will look nice with that dress. Look for comfort ranges. I like Carvela Comfort or Forever Comfort by Next. If you can get leather (inner and outer) that will help on your toes. Also the schol party foot range helps

I have just treated myself to these convertible heels. Not worn them out yet, as saving them for my holiday. They are comfortable around the house though and very easy to convert heel to flats while still wearing them.

I click on threads like this because I would love some elegant and dressy shoes, but I have arthritis in one foot and the beginning of bunions. Then so many posters post links to excrutiatingly painful looking pointy toed shoes. Why are they so popular?

I live in hope that one day I might find something I can wear.

I think it’s really dependent on foot shape. I have always found pointed stilettos really quite comfy but don’t deal well with strappy sandals. I certainly wouldn’t be clomping around a black tie event in block heels though…

Winbourneflight · 12/10/2024 00:19

I’m another Esska fan. I wore mine all day at a wedding, danced in them and then walked a mile home in them. My feet were completely fine.

bendmeoverbackwards · 12/10/2024 00:48

How about these?

Lcm11 · 12/10/2024 07:58

So I think I'm going to invest in a pair of Esska heels, like @HippyKayYaysaid, if I get a metallic colour then hopefully I'll never have to buy another pair of heels. My only concern is sometimes my feet are too wide for strappy shoes but I'll size up to 7.5.

The dress hasn't gone down very well 🤣 but I love it and feel comfortable in it so am sticking with it.

Thank you all, can't believe how much help I've received! 🩷

These look good - I'd be scared that they'll collapse while walking though..I wonder how sturdy they are?

Marinel · 12/10/2024 13:28

In case you didn't notice @Lcm11
Esska have wide fit strappy

The heel and the folding mechanism is metal and locks in place. They feel sturdy, so I don’t have any concerns about them breaking. I go away in a couple of weeks, so will report back after I’ve put them to the test!
