Very indulgent…what would you treat yourself to!

So I’ve recently had a large windfall. Sensible stuff like overpaying the mortgage etc are taken care of, so I have c£1.5K to treat myself. What would you buy?!

I love handbags but in reality only really take a bag to work. I’m toying with a mulberry Bayswater tote but am undecided.

I like jewellery too, but again unsure what to buy. Possibly some (small!) diamond studs?

Basically the world is my oyster and I’m looking for inspo!

(Before anyone points it out, I know I DON’T have to spend it and obviously would keep hold of it if nothing takes my fancy)

I would buy a fabulous grown-up coat. Probably Max Mara.

Singleandproud · 24/09/2024 15:28

I'd go on holiday.

  • I actually wouldn't I'd put it in DDs uni fund as I'm actually quite worried about affording it when she goes, but if I wasn't I'd go away somewhere warm.

Clothes wise I'd invest in something long wearing, a good coat, great boats / redo my wardrobe.

loropianalover · 24/09/2024 15:29

Do you want a tangible item? I’d probably go with jewelry, nice glasses or a good coat.

A weekend break in a nice hotel would be my top choice though.

GoingUpUpUp · 24/09/2024 15:29

Ah sorry holidays all sorted too!

This is money for an actual, material, indulgent item.

Tangible, that is definitely the word I was looking for!

I would go to a local jewellers and commission a pair of stud earrings in 18ct yellow gold with pair shape gemstones. Tsavorite garnets, indicolite tourmaline or colour change sapphires. (I may have already been considering this Wink)

When I had a 1k windfall to spend on myself I spent it on three personal trainer sessions a week, good kit and fitness gear until it all ran out then kept going to bootcamps at a fraction of the PT price, because i was then aware of good posture and correct positioning. Money well spent.

poppyzbrite4 · 24/09/2024 15:31

I'd buy a really good quality, full length, wool coat.

Some decent jewellery. I'd love some lovely necklaces to layer or some bracelets.

Some cashmere jumpers.

A decent, very good quality capsule wardrobe.

Interesting actually…never considered it but worth thinking about

Good shout on the coat, seen a nice Hobbs one that would leave me serious change for maybe some boots too

Love this! Do it!

If you don't know what you want, I wouldn't bother. Needs to be something you're excited about and have been wanting for ages

thehungryteacher · 24/09/2024 15:37

A watch I love my tag heuer

But I haven’t previously had the money to spend. I’m not a ‘dreamer’ in that sense, so I haven’t really looked.

As I’ve said, if I find nothing, it’ll be saved for another time.

I would also treat myself to some really posh skincare and bath products

harrumphh · 24/09/2024 15:56

How old are you? I'm guessing 50s based on the Mulberry Bayswater tote comment? If so I would go jewellery personally.

MissSkegness1951 · 24/09/2024 15:58

If you can't think of something you really want then what about using the money for a course of facials or massages so that you feel good from the inside?

LittleSparklyStar · 24/09/2024 15:58

I’d redo my whole wardrobe
nice t shirts and jeans, some new dresses, new trainers, new pumps and boots, a new coat
tben I’d get my hair dyed and some Botox!!

SweetSakura · 24/09/2024 16:03

A really decent handbag is a good choice. They endure and still look good years later and also survive fluctuations in weight etc

Or really good quality jewelry, necklace or earrings are my preference if I am spending a fair bit

Patagonia21 · 24/09/2024 16:05

I would choose one item of jewellery, which I love and would wear every day for years to come

GameOfJones · 24/09/2024 16:22

I have been lusting after these earrings Lab grown diamond studs so I would treat myself to them as I would get a lot of wear out of them. Then with the change I'd treat myself to a night at a spa hotel and some treatments.

LoobyDoop2 · 24/09/2024 16:34

Probably a really good wool/cashmere coat.
Why don’t you put it in its own savings account, and use it to upgrade everything you buy to the best version possible until it has run out?
