Very indulgent…what would you treat yourself to!

So I’ve recently had a large windfall. Sensible stuff like overpaying the mortgage etc are taken care of, so I have c£1.5K to treat myself. What would you buy?!

I love handbags but in reality only really take a bag to work. I’m toying with a mulberry Bayswater tote but am undecided.

I like jewellery too, but again unsure what to buy. Possibly some (small!) diamond studs?

Basically the world is my oyster and I’m looking for inspo!

(Before anyone points it out, I know I DON’T have to spend it and obviously would keep hold of it if nothing takes my fancy)

Yes! Absolutely agree with this. I have a decent collection of vintage Mulberries - the newer ones are just appalling quality in comparison. There are still some unused/nearly new vintage gems to be found if you go to a decent agency or private selling groups.

Can you recommend where to look for pre-owned mulberry? I know they sell them on their own website but is there anywhere else?
Thank you!

Several sets of boots and shoes from Anonymous Copenhagen

A proper bean-to-cup coffee machine (stayed in a friend's house recently who had one and I presume this was how religious folks feel when Our Lady appears to them).

Perfume from DS & Durga.

There’s quite a few on Facebook - Mulberry new/preloved, Mulberry UK Buy, Sell, Swap, Just Mulberry. If you just type in Mulberry to be honest you’ll get a fair few groups coming up. I’ve also used Naughtipidgins Nest a few times which is a fabulous agency and scrupulously honest and fair. I’ve also recently bought from Vinted and eBay but you HAVE to watch out for fakes - I know what I’m looking for now but still always pay to get something professionally authenticated. Authenticated4U are good for that. Hope that helps!

Haha this made me laugh, yes I'd upgrade our coffee machine as it's done us many years but is slowly starting to go wonky now.

I'd love a fab pair of waterproof, weatherproof boots that would last - I live in north Scotland with a dog so I'd definitely get my money's worth.

I'd indulge in some new bedding, towels and cushions. Little daily pleasures.

I'm not really a jewellery or bag kinda girl but I'd love some posh jeans too!

CrushingOnRubies · 25/09/2024 17:56

I'd buy some good quality but classic jewellery.

A new handbag

Shoes in a style which wouldn't date like leather boots

Cheesecakecookie · 25/09/2024 18:12

I wouldn’t buy a mulberry Bayswater now. I think they’re dated/overdone.

Not to mention overpriced - when they first started they were better quality and lasted - for a good price. Now not so much.

You can get lovely classic bags for less.

I’d go for a wool coat (probably max mara) and a cheaper bag.

ItsRainingTacos79 · 25/09/2024 18:38

Max Mara long wool coat (wait for the sales you could pick up two)
Cartier D'Amour necklace for everyday wear
Diamond stud earrings
A non-Mulberry designer bag (your £1.5k would go far on an authenticated used bag from eBay or Vestiare)
Cashmere jumpers, cardigans and shawls
Zimmerman dress

Ophy83 · 25/09/2024 19:33

I'd get a nice coat, some Anonymous Copenhagen vully 50 boots and a bag from a French brand like Sezane or Gérard Darel.

Namechangeforcheese · 25/09/2024 20:05

I was in a similar situation recently.

I had a couple of smaller Mulberry bags so I lashed out on a Bayswater. I hated the bloody thing. It was so stiff, heavy and awkward to open. I live in Central London and opening it to whip out a credit card or Oyster Card was impossible. It was a tricky two handed manoeuvre plus the weight of the bag coupled with the length of the straps made imy shoulders ache.

After a few months I gave in and gave the bag to my adult daughter who is stronger than me. She absolutely loves it and uses it often.

one thing I have spent money on since coming into a little extra cash is ear piercings. Then as they heal I buy individual diamond or gemstone studs to replace the original piercings. I'm in my sixties, white, middle class, very vanilla and having 2 ears full of asymmetrical gems makes me feel glamorous and edgy.

Whatever you choose to do with your money, enjoy enjoy!!!

Nsky62 · 25/09/2024 20:12

I bought some lovely furniture, house renovation 8 years ago, a fawn tub chair lovely( being on my own couldn’t afford better stuff, till a windfall).
Still looks great, and pine furniture, it has to last, only at and I.
I’d seek eBay or Etsy for jewellery, and clothes, so much great vintage ( I prefer vintage rings) stuff, got better value than new too

PeggyMitchellsCameo · 25/09/2024 20:18

I would go for a Max Mars coat as well. Last forever!

NoSnowdrop · 25/09/2024 20:25

I’d spend it on an item by an independent designer. Hate seeing money going to these large chain places. Don’t get the love for diamond studs either.

For me if I had a windfall to splurge it would have to be something I’ve coveted for ages or really desire. I wouldn’t spend it for the sake of it.

Bittercup · 25/09/2024 20:26

Ooh I would spend it on a winter coat and boots, diamond studs and skincare. Maybe replace underwear and makeup if there is anything left.

I really hope you come back and tell us what you bought.

KrazyboutKillian · 25/09/2024 20:31

I’d buy a beautiful watch
It’s maybe not enough money for a Cartier tank
but something equally fabulous

whatever you get, enjoy !

Happiestwhen · 25/09/2024 20:58

I would get the earrings and maybe a beautiful ring to match 😍

TheBeesKnee · 25/09/2024 21:03

Forget Mulberry, get a Coach bag!

abracadabra1980 · 25/09/2024 21:07

Diamonds, or another pet 🐾

RosesAndHellebores · 25/09/2024 21:18

The best thing I have ever owned, which is nearly 20 years old, is a velvet Caroline Charles evening coat. It's black, beautifully made and not very fussy. It can dress up a pair of jeans or go over a very posh frock.

I'll have a look at the website to see if there's anything there.

Lavenderandbrown · 25/09/2024 22:19

A gold Louis Philippe mirror. Straight sides but gently arched top with original mercury glass. From a reputable dealer.

A gold cigar band style ring for my right hand.

fernsandlilies · 25/09/2024 22:38

I do love clothes but I would buy a painting.

Somatic · 25/09/2024 23:18

I’d go for jewellery myself as I love it. A couple of things I’ve splashed out on in the past I would replace without hesitation if needed: a cashmere scarf/wrap and some cashmere-lined leather gloves. I wear the wrap all the time in winter (actually most of the year!) and it’s the best thing ever on a plane or even a long car trip.

The gloves were from one of the many glove shops in Venice. They’re a slightly longer length than a usual glove so are very cosy, look great and feel divine. The glove shops are great as they have endless choices of colour and lining - I get very cold hands so went with the cashmere lining and they’re fab. You’d have enough to take a trip to Venice to go glove shopping!

changingchaali · 26/09/2024 00:00

I'd spend it on a weekend away with one of my friends. I'm a single parent on low income so the thought of a holiday for some time to myself is a pipe dream. If I had a windfall I'd definitely do that

snowmichael · 26/09/2024 00:20

I'm not really an 'indulgent' person
I have no interest in clothes, I don't wear jewellery nor watches, I am not a gadget freak or tech boy, I don't drive, don't drink (so no fancy wine or brandy)
Given this has to be a 'thing' not an 'experience' I honestly can't think of any individual item I'd spend anything like that sort of money on

Probably just stick it in my account and use it to buy more books

That's fine. What do you want, a sticker? Op's asked for indulgent suggestions, thats why people are giving them.
Op already said she's spent the majority of this windfall on sensible financial decisions/trips.

It's possible to love clothes and jewellery and love books and travel
