Very indulgent…what would you treat yourself to!

So I’ve recently had a large windfall. Sensible stuff like overpaying the mortgage etc are taken care of, so I have c£1.5K to treat myself. What would you buy?!

I love handbags but in reality only really take a bag to work. I’m toying with a mulberry Bayswater tote but am undecided.

I like jewellery too, but again unsure what to buy. Possibly some (small!) diamond studs?

Basically the world is my oyster and I’m looking for inspo!

(Before anyone points it out, I know I DON’T have to spend it and obviously would keep hold of it if nothing takes my fancy)

Rain sisters raincoat

Are they paying MN for advertising? I'm seeing them mentioned in every other thread recently!

Isabelle70 · 24/09/2024 19:45

I would go for a great pair of diamond studs.

GoingUpUpUp · 24/09/2024 20:12

Some great ideas!

Also baffled by the thought I must be in my 50s if I like a mulberry Bayswater 😂

Sunglasses I hadn’t considered but I wear mine loads so could look at that.

Have also started eying up coats on Hobbs, I do wear a decent coat for work and do the school run so it’ll get use.

Am off for a browse this weekend at jewellery, we have some great jewellers in our town so will see what they come up with

Wait — until you see something unexpected that makes your heart sing — and then splurge!

Sidebeforeself · 24/09/2024 20:24

I’d go for a stunning pendant or collar necklace ..maybe even have one made so its unique

Twilightstarbright · 24/09/2024 20:27

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie I wish I was being paid to advertise them! I paid for the coat myself and it’s lovely. Was just sharing an idea.

Moveoverdarlin · 24/09/2024 20:29

There’s a story on the Mail Online about Shirley Ballas’ non surgical facelift. I’d have one of them.

LunaTheCat · 24/09/2024 20:33

The same happened to me a year ago.
I wanted some diamond studs but was worried about loosing them.
I bought a single diamond necklace with a decent stone in white gold to remember my relative… I wear it most days and love it.

RedPandaFluff · 24/09/2024 20:35

Don't get the Bayswater tote, @GoingUpUpUp - the corners are really vulnerable and wear through very quickly.

Personally I'd get a little pair of diamond studs - probably lab-grown, to get more carat for my money. Enjoy whatever you decide!

ladygindiva · 24/09/2024 22:57

A decent leather jacket , or a long sheepskin coat from Celtic and co... They have so many gorgeous ones but so expensive

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 25/09/2024 00:00

Not quite the same but I have three years worth of back-pay due this Friday - I’ve written off the “cost” of industrial action along the way, and it feels like “free money”. In my online baskets I have:

Le Labo Le Lavande perfume
A Lisa Eldridge lipstick (actually a straight replacement for one which is almost done)
A mustard throw from John Lewis because the current one is all loopy from the cat
A load of Inkey List skincare and an Hourglass ambient powder (again replacement items and stocking up)
A blue mohair Arket jumper
A new fluffy bed for the cat who has flattened his into a weird shape by sleeping hanging half out of it

I’m going to clear my credit card and we’re going out for a very bougie meal on Saturday, then the rest will go into savings.

Fab! Enjoy your (very hard won by the sounds of it!) treats.

I'd go either a really good coffee maker or if clothing a really classic lifetime wear good winter wool coat.
I wouldn't buy a Mulberry bag from experience. I really coveted the Roxanne years ago , bought it , it was heavy , impractical and went out of fashion really quickly . I actually threw it out when a pen burst and spilt ink all over the underside .

Holidayhell22 · 25/09/2024 07:56

I don’t know if you have enough for this but I would have a pair of shoes made especially for me.
I struggle to get comfortable, stylish shoes.

Hi @FlyHalf if you are looking to buy pearls, I really recommend a one day course, a buyer’s guide to pearls, at City Lit in London run by the very knowledgable Judith Crowe. The next date is 10 May 2025. Judith is also a gem dealer and will sell you some pearls, but there is absolutely no pressure to buy on the course.

mondaytosunday · 25/09/2024 08:45

I wouldn't use it all to buy one thing, certainly not on a bag which holds no interest for me. I'd go on a nice break, or really splash out on an extraordinary experience - contemplating a trip on the British Pullman train after seeing it on Masterchef on my next birthday for me and my DD. The one to Bath is about £500/each. The rest would probably go to pay bills or get split between my kids.

Urgenthelplease · 25/09/2024 08:53

I bought the Mulberry Millie in black and a trinity ring from Cartier. I also got the jus en clou and it's not as special to me but I wear both every day. The bag is much less useful, doesn't fit my laptop comfortably and I get just as much enjoyment from an accessorise version that's almost identical.

Ops already said this is the money left over after doing sensible things and paying for trips with the majority

Keepingongoing · 25/09/2024 08:58

If you like art, an original piece of art or a high quality art print. Get your own frame - if you can find a frame shop which is connected to a gallery, they will probably have more of an eye and can advise how best to set off the artwork.

It’s great fun shopping for art when you have some money to spend.

Get the bag you want but maybe try getting a one from when Mulberry was at its peak.

Yes! Absolutely agree with this. I have a decent collection of vintage Mulberries - the newer ones are just appalling quality in comparison. There are still some unused/nearly new vintage gems to be found if you go to a decent agency or private selling groups.

LadyLapsang · 25/09/2024 09:05

I would follow @Magpiecomplex advice and visit the Goldsmith’s Fair to get ideas and possibly find something. If you have money over, I would buy membership of the V & A (which I already enjoy) or a gallery which will give you year round enjoyment and means you can visit the gallery after work or when shopping without having to commit to a long visit.

GettingStuffed · 25/09/2024 09:14

This, but I was in a position to buy it my practical side took over as the dry cleaning is going to be incredibly expensive. It needs to go to a specialist one.

It does less extreme knots too.

I wouldn't buy anything you could get too big/small for or anything that would go out of fashion. I would invest in things that give you daily pleasure. If you haven't already got top notch duvet, pillows and bed linen I'd do that, you'll enjoy the comfort every day. Then I'd invest in a top quality dermatologist appointment and recommendations for my face - this is something I'd love to do but scared of the cost! I'd do it to learn what I need to do for the future and maintain great skin. A great coffee maker - we've had ours years and I enjoy my perfectly made coffee every morning. I also like the luxury upgrade idea, everything new you buy is great quality and will last.

greenwoodentablelegs · 25/09/2024 10:41

I would buy Tiffany gold or diamond jewellery on eBay. If you look out then can get a bargain. I love the solid gold open hearts and the diamonds by the yard. Too distinctive to be fakes

or a collection of fancy sun glasses. I have about 5 pairs of oakleys in the same style but different colours.

Zumbador · 25/09/2024 10:48

I had £1k like this a few years ago. I love Vivienne Westwood so allocated £500 to buying things on eBay. I got a wool coat for £200, a dress, a cardigan, and a t-shirt.

The rest I put towards a detox retreat, which gave me a great glow for quite a while! (plus health benefits).
