Very indulgent…what would you treat yourself to!

So I’ve recently had a large windfall. Sensible stuff like overpaying the mortgage etc are taken care of, so I have c£1.5K to treat myself. What would you buy?!

I love handbags but in reality only really take a bag to work. I’m toying with a mulberry Bayswater tote but am undecided.

I like jewellery too, but again unsure what to buy. Possibly some (small!) diamond studs?

Basically the world is my oyster and I’m looking for inspo!

(Before anyone points it out, I know I DON’T have to spend it and obviously would keep hold of it if nothing takes my fancy)

A session with a personal shopper, complete wardrobe update

Defiantlynot41 · 24/09/2024 16:42

Mulberry Bayswater is timeless and they wear well but are super heavy. Maybe have a look in the outlet store in Bicester Village?

Diamond stud earrings are classic and you will get more bang for your buck (better cut/colour/clarity/carat weight) if you choose second hand/preloved.

Similar with watches, you might get a classic Omega or Cartier for your money if you go preloved

mumonthehill · 24/09/2024 16:44

I got given years ago a very small set of diamond stud earrings from Tiffany and i wear them often. So i would do with some beautiful earrings.

Poggishairtufts · 24/09/2024 16:46

I agree with the diamond stud idea, they're timeless and look great with anything. I bought mine with some money I was left and I feel special putting them on - which I do a couple of times a week at a guess.

DramaAlpaca · 24/09/2024 16:50

Funnily enough, when I was in exactly the same position, OP, I treated myself to a Mulberry Bayswater. I've never regretted it.

mewkins · 24/09/2024 16:54

I'd get a good watch. I have a mulberry bag and never use it now. I've gone off handbags and prefer pockets 😁

goingdownfighting · 24/09/2024 16:54

I wouldn't spend it for the sake of it but that's because I have a wish list.

Mine is

Some good quality everyday jewellery- so I'd spend the money on a pretty gold pendant necklace.

Some ski boots

A cashmere wrap

Cashmere jogger set

Longchamo bag

Brittaniagirl · 24/09/2024 17:01

I’ve just bought the kitchen aid kettle and toaster, they are in constant use and give me so much pleasure and the tea is no longer burned as its variable temperature

Britpopbaby · 24/09/2024 17:03

Get the bag you want but maybe try getting a one from when Mulberry was at its peak.

EngineEngineNumber9 · 24/09/2024 17:43

Depends on your lifestyle and it might sound boring, but I would personally recommend a Thermomix. I absolutely love mine and use it many times every day.

May I suggest https://www.goldsmithsfair.co.uk/
It's currently on, this week and next, a chance to meet fine and precious jewellery makers, and silversmiths, in person. You can buy ready made or commission something unique. If you can get to London, I'd highly recommend it.

For more than four decades, Goldsmiths’ Fair has brought together a selection of the UK’s best contemporary jewellers and silversmiths. This year’s 136 exhibitors work across disciplines and materials, each achieving distinct techniques and their own s...

Echoing apps, I’d go with a good coat and good boots and then spend any change on a piece of jewellery and/or a decent tote bag.

FlyHalf · 24/09/2024 18:02

I'm looking for a classic pearl necklace, for the same sorts of reasons - either a 'proper' one, or a really good vintage fake one, a la Jackie Kennedy. If anyone has any leads on that, I'm all ears...

Tisfortired · 24/09/2024 18:03

The first thing that came to mind is Piglet in Bed bedding bundle.

harrumphh · 24/09/2024 15:56

How old are you? I'm guessing 50s based on the Mulberry Bayswater tote comment? If so I would go jewellery personally.

What? Hmm many many women of all ages, including myself and many others in 30s. In fact I got mine when I was 26...A lot of women in my workplace use it as their work bag.

Guavafish1 · 24/09/2024 18:05

Mini break somewhere!

TheShellBeach · 24/09/2024 18:06

Cashmere jumpers.

Happii · 24/09/2024 18:07

If you like Mulberry look for a second hand older one, the quality is a million times better and if it's been looked after will still have plenty of wear left in it!

I'd probably buy some jewellery if it was me, but as others have said if you aren't sure then keep it set aside from a treat for you but don't feel pressure to rush into buying anything. I'd try and get a day off work and go shopping to look in person at stuff!

IDontHateRainbows · 24/09/2024 18:09

I'd be buying a really nice piece of jewelery that I could wear for years.

Ilovemyshed · 24/09/2024 18:30

I would go and have a personal shop appointment at a shop where I really like their stuff (Hobbs) especially when there is a sale on, and organise a good capsule wardrobe.

Or buy a decent mattress from The Wool Room.

dudsville · 24/09/2024 18:34

What about really fabulous sunglasses?

Twilightstarbright · 24/09/2024 18:37

Rain sisters raincoat

sangriaandsunshine · 24/09/2024 19:02

Does it have to be something you will treasure forever? If so, perhaps jewellery although your tastes will change as well as fashion.
Only get a wool coat if you wear one on a regular basis and, even then, I might be careful about buying a "wow" one as, again, fashions change. I'm sure some people do buy investment pieces (fashion editors are always telling us about them after all) but I think fashion is more disposable than it used to be and people tend to cycle through things more. To give an example, I have an OK wool coat (cost about £250 15 years or so ago) and I still love it but I rarely wear it as my down filled coat is so much more practical most of the time. When I do wear my wool coat (Remembrance, funerals), I'm conscious I am in it again when many of the people I am with will have been through two or three coats in that period.
I'd be tempted by something more along the lines of something health/beauty based. Like a PP, I still benefit from the PT sessions I had just before Covid. I had my eyeliner tattooed on 18 months ago and still appreciate it every morning when I look in the mirror. I am considering Invisalign but am not sure I can be bothered to go through the whole palaver

Mystery2345 · 24/09/2024 19:09

Hermes Cape Cod watch

Rayna37 · 24/09/2024 19:18

I've never regretted my diamond studs. I've worn small studs most of my life day to day and always wanted some diamonds so knew it wasn't a passing whim.

£1500 should buy a decent pair. I got mine from a gorgeous independent jeweller but tbh if I lost one/both I'd probably replace at Costco!
